• help for people in their 50's looking for work!
i am a 54 year old man,who lost my job by no fault of my own.i am a steelworker who's company filed bankruptcy and liquidated its assets.i have worked for this company for 34+ yearsi have worked as a (millwright) now called (mtm) maintenance tech mechanical.and i have also worked on the production end as an operator.(coil operator) at the hot strip rolling mill.i have been out of work for 7 months,i have applied for over 150 jobs.if i get a reply its a thank you for your interest.i only have a high school diploma,i started in the mill at 19 years old.i believe that my age is a factor in why i am not being hired.i cant prove that, but i get that feeling the more jobs i apply to.i have applied for jobs and in 15 minutes get a thank you for your interest, the jobs i apply for only require a high school diploma too!i really think its because of my age, companies are looking for younger employees.to the people in washington d.c. making our laws, and setting the guidelines for our country, most dont have any compassion for people like me or my fellow workers,i am not alone by any means.it seems to me that nobody cares about my fate or my fellow workers fate .ive been through this for 7 months and to you people in washington who think im looking for a handout, you are completely wrong!!!! i have worked my whole life and my wife has also ,just trying to make a decent living.and i want to continue to do so,i dont want to be on unemployment benifits,i think it is a shame for people like me that worked long and hard for what we've got,to possibly lose our house and everything we own, because there are not decent jobs out there, and the ones that you can make a decent living on ,the people in charge wont even give you a chance because of your age! i think its a pathetic injustice for all of us!all i want is a decent job to support my family,is that to much to ask in this country? i thought this was the greatest country in the world? i think the businesses in this country should start thinking of the way business used to be,to make a profit, and preserve jobs for all the people.not just think if we made 15 million in profit we need to make more, and cut jobs and put people in the street for no reason other than to make more profit! i think ive said enough,i think you people in washington need to stop acting like schoolboys and girls and do whats best for the people of this country, get together and make good strong decisions for the good of the people,we are the ones you work for!!!!! dont forget that!

  • Leave Social Security Alone
The proposal to cut Social Security benefits for current and future recipients by the President and Congress is wrong. Social Security does not add to the deficit and should be left off the bargaining table. Congress doesn’t mind cutting Social Security because they receive such a generous retirement (even after only one term.)

  • Don't Hold Middle Class Vietnamese American Families Hostage.
Don't increase taxes on hardworking families. Going over the cliff would strike at the heart of American families and could put our fragile economy back in a recession.

  • Tax Firearms to fund Public and Mental Health
This is to begin to offset the current environment wherein firearm profits are privatized to benefit relatively few, while the increasing indirect costs of public security are (socialized) paid for by all citizens involuntarily rather than accounted for in the manufacturing and distribution of these firearms.

  • Social Security Cuts
Cutting social security is counterproductive since it inhibits economic activity from senior citizens and would also be an injustice. There should be legislative action to ensure that the social security funds are not "raided" to be used for other issues. Rather, the funds should be invested for growth.

  • Do Not Cut Social Security Benefits
Social Security does not add one penny to the deficit. Do not mess with it or cut benefits. Do not cut Social Security Benefits. While all the costs of living go up, up, up, our income goes down. What kind of a deal is that. Do not cut Social Security Benefits at all. Leave them alone.

  • Raise the minimum wage and index it to the localized cost of living.
More money in the hands of the poorest is the best place to ignite our sluggish economy. People who have needs they cannot afford to fill will spend all additional income provided. The added income will spur the economy while improving the health, well being and security of our most vulnerable citizens. Its a Win - Win - Win.
