Green Tax ShiftI am irritated that every rational green initiative starts in California first and that they now, along with Australia,New Zealand, and S.Korea, are beginning a cap and trade system, while our legislature occupys itself with thinking small.I suggest that we replace our regressive state income tax system with a carbon tax on oil, coal, and natural gas, adjusted upwards yearly as,like good Yankees,we all try to invest in energy upgrades, solar roofs, hybrid and electric cars so that we can have our neighbor who doesn't do this pay our carbon tax. This will spur local investment and put us ahead of those states taxing income, investment, and payroll.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by RUSSELL DONNELLY

Support HD2959, “An Act to reduce solid waste and provide universal recycling access”.HD2959, if enacted, could have the potential to dramatically reduce disposed waste and recover millions of tons of valuable materials to use as feedstock for new products in Mass., saving money and resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and creating many jobs. The bill requires that all residents, businesses and waste haulers comply with the existing bans on the disposal of recyclable materials from their point of generation.20 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Gene Wyatt

Defuse the Tar Sands Time BombThe President may be tempted to give in on an issue that must be championed – protecting the climate from the exceptionally dirty fuels of the Canada Tar Sands. NASA’s James Hansen wrote, “If we were to fully exploit this new oil source, and continue to burn our conventional oil, gas and coal supplies, concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere eventually would reach levels higher than in the Pliocene era, … when sea level was at least 50 feet higher than it is now.…the disintegration of the ice sheets would accelerate out of control. Sea levels would rise and destroy coastal cities. Global temperatures would become intolerable.” The teachable moment of Hurricane Sandy must not be forgotten.2,795 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Phyllis Meshulam

Rapid rescue of dolphins and whales in Gowanus CanalOn January 25, 2013, a dolphin was injured and trapped in the toxic waters of the Gowanus canal in Brooklyn. It fought for its life for over 6 hours, while bystanders were taking pictures, and news helicopters were flying by. Local officials decided not to intervene to save the dolphin. After 6 to 8 hours trapped in the very polluted waters, the dolphin died. In 2007 a baby whale also got trapped and died in the canal. The Gowanus canal is man made, and its high level of toxicity and pollution is due to us. We need to have a protocol in place for rapid rescue to help these large mammals swim back to the bay when they get trapped. No large mammal should ever die trapped in the Gowanus canal. We have a moral responsibility to have a protocol of rapid rescue in place, and we need our local officials to explore every option to prevent future deaths.230 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Vangeline

Protect Nebraska's water supply. The Keystone pipeline travelling through Nebraska will put crucial Nebraska water at risk. This water is necessary not only for drinking, but also for the integrity of our agriculture. Tar sands are so viscous that the pipeline will need to be heated with natural gas, which will also affect the agriculture and water safety of Nebraskans.7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Ryan Thompson

4 billion years of jobsMissouri should be "The Show 'YOU' State, and we can do that by looking at what will give us two things perpetually, or at least until the Earth cools off. To create jobs, even before the idea of what to produce comes up, electricity has to be available, giga watts of it. It has to be cheap and it has to go on everywhere, no matter what. Under 37,000 feet of ocean water is sea bottom, and under that and ever other square inch of surface on this planet there is an unending source of heat. In 2006 at Chena Hot Springs, Alaska, (I believe) Conoco, and Carrier (air conditioning) Co. have put a geothermal electricity producing operation that has operated at minus 60 Fahrenheit. The cost of electricity has gone from .30 cents per KW to less than .07 per KW. It operates from the heat of the earth, and will for the next 4 billion years. We are going to run out of oil, coal and gas in the next few generations, and the costs are not going to come down. With the cost of production and start up time of the Nuclear facility in Louisiana, the whole United States could have one geothermal electricity producing plant in all 50 States, 5 years before the nuclear one starts up and put about 40,000 to 50,000 people to work, ad infinitum . Take a deep breath (or NOT)The rise in Asthma, Allergy sensitivities, respiratory diseases all point to the main cause - the quality of the air we breathe. All the "controls" government dictates have done little to REALLY improve our air quality. What more can be done for this State to make it the cleanest air quality area in the country?34 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jerry Foster-Pitts

Petition to Ban Fracking in CaliforniaFracking an oil or gas well means injecting millions of gallons of fluid -- typically a mix of water, sand and chemicals -- at a pressure high enough to fracture underground rocks and release oil or gas. The practice is leaving a legacy of air and water pollution in communities across the country, and contributing to global climate change. Now, the oil and gas industry is targeting natural gas fields in the Sacramento Basin and oil fields in the San Joaquin, Santa Maria, Ventura and Los Angeles Basins. If industry succeeds, generations of Californians would pay the environmental and public health costs. Sign the Petition to let the Governor and members of the California Legislature know that you want to Ban Fracking Now!277 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Maria Tchijov

Tell Governor Hickenlooper to Ban Fracking Now!There are over 45,000 hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, wells in Colorado -- many of which are near our homes, schools and parks. Fracking is a dangerous oil and natural gas extraction process that can contaminate our drinking water, lower our property values and harm our communities. Governor Hickenlooper needs to stand up for Coloradans and protect our state from fracking.5,052 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Maria Tchijov
