• Give employees paid time off to vote!
Four years ago, Regina got up early to vote before her workday started at Walmart. It ended up taking two hours to cast her ballot. Thankfully, she made it to work just in time, but voting shouldn’t be that stressful! No worker at Walmart, or any other business, should have to worry about facing a reprimand (or even losing a job) in order to exercise their right to vote. In the last presidential election, only about half of eligible voters across the U.S. turned out to vote, and in 2014 only one-third made it to the polls. Most American workers have little or no paid time off. In fact, 41% of them didn’t take a single day off in 2015. Additional factors like long lines, transportation challenges, and lack of childcare make voting quickly very difficult for low-wage workers. Voting is a right we hold dear in the U.S., but with too few voters making it to the polls each election year, we need to do everything we can to make sure people have the time they need to cast their ballot. Low-wage workers have it especially difficult because their work is typically less flexible and they are twice as likely to have to wait in long lines once they get to the polls. Companies like Walmart that employ a large number of low-wage workers have a great opportunity to do right by their employees—and by our democracy—by giving their employees paid time off to go vote!

  • Impeach Chris Christie!
Embedded in the serious news stories that have occurred in the past 48 hours, US federal prosecutors have announced what we always knew to be true -- Governor Christie was aware of the political retribution taking place in Fort Lee, failed to stop high level members of his administration and then proceeded to cover it up through deceit. Our constitution allows for action. Urge the Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings and hold Governor Christie accountable to his constituents! • Jill Stein, withdraw from the race and endorse Clinton
Trump's shocking attitude toward the use of nuclear weapons and the climate crisis could bring irreversible global disaster. If Stein gets just 2-3% of the vote, that could put Donald Trump in the White House. Dr. Stein, you could indeed be our Savior, but only by getting out of the race.

  • I support statewide decriminalization of 30 grams or less of marijuana flower in Pennsylvania!
Too many people are being arrested, prosecuted, and criminalized by using and possessing cannabis. Marijuana laws need to change in Pennsylvania. We have four of our main regions of Pennsylvania currently trudging ahead on their own recourse to try and blaze the way for statewide legislation. Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, State College, and Harrisburg have all decriminalized locally. Each very different. Isn't it time we take this across the board? We have a heroin epidemic statewide we should be focused on. And in most cases, Cannabis; although a schedule 1 drug along with heroin: is far less harmful and can actually aid in opiate addiction withdraw. • Tell Congress to Support Payday Loan Protections
For years, some small-dollar lenders—offering products such as payday loans, deposit advances, vehicle title loans, and high-cost installment loans—have extracted billions of dollars in abusive fees and high interest rates from the very consumers and communities who can afford it the least. The result has left millions of consumers trapped in an endless cycle of debt. Finally, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is proposing rules that will protect consumers. Ask all Pennsylvania Members of Congress to sign on in support.

  • A Megan's Law for Domestic Abusers
On average, 20 people per minute are victims of physical violence by an intimate partner in the United States and sixteen percent of mass shooters (2009-2015) had been previously charged with domestic violence. With a database similar to that of Megan's Law, people can see if their partners have domestic violence records and at risk domestic partners could begin protecting themselves by making informed decisions. Identifying domestic abusers, we can make our communities safer.
