Children with Cystic Fibrosis are required to take supplemental pancreatic enzymes before meals. These enzymes allow the student to digest food properly. Currently, the law states, each student must go to the nurse’s office, each day. The nurse than administers the medication to the student. This is a time consuming process, which takes forces the student to leave class early or miss part of the lunch hour. This inhibits the student’s ability to either learn or have adequate time to finish lunch. This is also becoming problematic, due to budget cuts in the schools. Some schools are eliminating full-time nurses, which would make it impossible for students to take their medication each day. Some schools have passed laws that allow students to carry medication such as over over-the-counter pain relief medications. The main impetus for the current restrictions is to insure the safety of the students by keeping controlled substances (such as prescription medications) out of the hallways and classrooms of the school. However, the danger of someone taking un-prescribed pancreatic enzymes is negligible. We believe students who have Cystic Fibrosis and require pancreatic enzymes before meals, with a Doctor’s note, should be able to carry and administer their own medication. If the student demonstrates understanding and compliance with the prescribed dosage, before the school nurse, the student should be free to carry and administer the medication. If you agree, please sign this petition and contact your lawmakers both state and federal, so David’s Law will become law as soon as possible. If you have any questions or want to help the cause, please contact David Wagner’s Cystic Fibrosis Hotline at 612-282-1211

  • Obama: Pass the Tax Parity for Health Plan Beneficiaries Act
Although employer-provided health coverage for different-sex spouses is excluded from an employee’s gross income, domestic partner benefits are not. As a result, an employee who elects domestic partner coverage pays more income and payroll taxes than a similarly-situated employee with a different-sex spouse.

  • Clinical trial for Azacytidine as a treatment for HTLV
HTLV is a life threatening virus that has infected 35 million people worldwide, including half a million Americans. Azacytidine has been demonstrated as a potential cure for HTLV by the apparent clearance of the virus in a patient in Greece after 8 months of treatment.

  • Education as an answer to the obesity epidemic.
It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver. Mahatma Gandhi If this is true we are in a great depression. The prevalence of obesity has become more than a noticeable problem in our society and with childhood diabetes on the rise it is time to take action in becoming a healthier society. Americans want government help in paying for medication and subsidizing health care but why not set aside money to help people prevent from having a lot of problems that could easily have been prevented by education.

  • Health Care Freedom
Last week the European Parliament Interest Group made a recommendation to the EU commission that complementary care be made part of their directive - for the EU to "actively support the greater integration of complementary and alternative medicine into the healthcare of EU citizens, especially with regards to the prevention and treatment of cancer". The World Health Organization has for many years incorporated it's recommendation to all world governments that they incorporate these alternative options into their existing health care systems. It is time for the US to adopt this directive. Americans spend billions of dollars out of pocket on these therapies, many of which have been studied and approved by the WHO. The integration of modern Western therapies and preventive and complementary medicine is an answer to out of control health care costs. The US outspends all other nations, with markedly inferior health outcomes. Change is needed, and we know what will move us forward. Incorporate proven alternative therapies into our insurance services.

  • Medicare for 55+
I feel that the eligible age for medicare should be lowered to fifty-five. While it is not Universal Single Payer, it would benefit a group of that strongly supported the Affordable Health Care Act. Also, it would show that there is more ways than one to skin a cat. Keep lowering the age until everyone is universally covered. Also, premiums might go down, because you are adding a younger, healthier crowd to medicare..

  • Recognize Cannabis as Medicine in Cooperation with the United Nations Right to Health.
The United Nations defined the right to health in Article 12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in 1966. The Covenant guarantees the "right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health". By refusing citizens the right to choose cannabis as an effective medicine found through scientific evidences, the U.S. government is breaking the U.N. Right to Health law. Please end this War on people who have chosen a safe alternative to prescription medications.

  • Universal Medicare Access
Americans don't want health insurance, they want health care, and believe it is the right, not the privilege, of every citizen. Medicare is currently serving millions, at a very low administrative cost, and functioning satisfactorily. I propose we eliminate two words in the Medicare Act: Over 65. Then all persons would have access to medical care. I propose it be paid for in a similar fashion as Social Security; with a payroll tax shared by the employee and employer.

  • Change Laws in Texas To Stop Elders Deaths
When I was an old Nurse many medications were thrown in the trash to keep the elderly in Nursing Homes alive. Stop over dosing our elders for money. Stop allowing felons to care for the elderly in their own homes. Full disclosure laws need to be in place. No free rent off the elderly by felons unrelated and bonding out of jail needs a 10 day waiting period. Truth. More truth.

  • Health Care in America—Change is Necessary
Health care in the United States is sorely lacking. Politicians have claimed medical cannabis has no medical value despite growing evidence and scientific studies documenting otherwise. Medical cannabis DOES have medical value—hundreds of physicians are converging upon Tucson, AZ, in April of 2012 to get continuing education credits sanctioned by the American Medical Association. Science is progressing. It is time for politicians and our government to be accountable to their voters' health and health care decisions. Accountability 4:2012
