On December 30, 2011, Ms. Glenda G. Lewis of Cocoa, Florida was found battered and dead lying in her bed with her violent and abusive ex-boyfriend, Calvin Lamal Williams. Her family reported that weeks before her death, she had filed for a domestic violence injunction, but was repeatedly threatened by Williams to rescind it. Sadly, she did. Days later, she was dead. At the time of Glenda’s death, he was an absconder (his whereabouts unknown to authorities) and was wanted for a probation violation regarding another victim of his domestic violence. Outrage and disbelief has taken the place of grief and sadness by Glenda’s family and friends. We are desperate for answers to why her ex-boyfriend, a man with an extensive history of crime and violence, had not been charged with any crime regarding her “suspicious death” nearly 12 years ago. Why else would an otherwise healthy 40-year-old woman be found dead in her own bedroom in which her furniture was totally destroyed; if foul play was not involved? The message that was sent by Detective Glenn Wade was that you must be a LIVE victim of domestic violence to get charges filed, because once your abuser MURDERS you, you cease to have any rights for justice. Once you are DEAD, you no longer have a voice and your killer can get away with murder. We, the family and friends of Glenda Lewis, are her voice. Please hear our cries for justice. Domestic violence is not a private matter and does not affect the Lewis family solely. It is a public epidemic and if we are not careful with the progress of this case, none of us will ever be safe.

Legislation (HB 48) is being introduced to end capital punishment. In its crowded, 30-day session, the Kentucky state house will consider public support for doing away with capital punishment. Murder will become a Class A Felony punishable by life without parole or life without parole for 25 years.

In Washington, DC, our nation's capital, we have no voting member of Congress, and our local taxes and laws are subject to the control of Congress. This violates every principle of democracy and it is un-American.

The public has a direct stake in this case because it exposes a dangerous failure inside Washington State’s justice system: DOC is refusing to follow binding court orders and is holding a man based on a conviction that no longer exists. When a state agency can ignore the courts, keep false records, and unlawfully restrain someone past their legal release date, it threatens the rights and safety of every Washington resident. This is not just about one man — it is about the integrity of our justice system. Charles’s case reveals how easily a person can be misclassified, mislabeled, and held under false information, even after the courts have corrected the record. If DOC can disregard a legally vacated conviction and continue treating someone as a murderer “for historical purposes,” then no one is protected from similar errors or abuses. When we protect Charles, we protect all Washingtonians. Charles is being held in prison for a conviction that the courts removed almost twenty years ago. The judges already fixed the mistake, but DOC refuses to update his record and still treats him like a murderer. They’re ignoring court orders and keeping him past his legal release date. If this can happen to Charles, it can happen to anyone. We’re fighting to get his record corrected and bring him home. I’m asking you to help because no family should have to go through this, and no one should be held in prison based on false information. 

This is bigger than one ship. This follows the renaming of a navy ship dedicated to pioneering gay rights activist Harvey Milk last year, as MAGA Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has pushed to re-segregate the military and erase all progress on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Under Hegseth’s leadership, Black military members have had their promotions blocked and been sidelined from appearing at public events.  This is about an administration that is dedicated to whitewashing and rewriting American history to maintain control over the present. From removing or altering portraits of former President Obama and other cultural imagery throughout federal buildings, to Trump’s explicit attacks on the Smithsonian, to renaming the USS Doris Miller, it’s all part of the same anti-Black, Project 2025 agenda.  The through line is clear: this administration is not simply changing what appears on the walls of federal buildings or on the hull of our military’s ships; it is actively attempting to reshape how Americans understand our history, whose stories are recognized, and whose contributions are remembered.

No other family should have to endure what ours did.  Our son's name was dragged through the mud because a bunch of adults felt they had the power to do so. No child should ever have to defend themselves in this manner. In this case it was the adults who were the bullies & they hid behind their school credentials to do it. Yes i agree that any acts of bullying should be investigated, but the schools in this case knew better, they just hadn't thought a parent would challenge them on it. A school should be a safe place for all children to learn & grow.

On April 17, 2018, my daughter, Sheyanna Smith, lost her life in Coffee County, Georgia. Since that day, our family has lived with unanswered questions about the circumstances surrounding her death and the investigation that followed. Over the years, I have carefully reviewed the available records related to Sheyanna’s case, including emergency dispatch records, investigative reports, and autopsy documentation. During this process, multiple inconsistencies and unanswered questions have emerged regarding the timeline, the documentation of events, and how the investigation was handled. Every family deserves to know the truth about what happened to their loved one. When questions remain unresolved, transparency and accountability are essential to maintaining public trust in the justice system. This petition calls for an independent and thorough review of the investigation into the death of Sheyanna Smith. A fresh examination of the evidence and records can help determine whether all proper procedures were followed and whether the case should be re-evaluated.
