Those of us who know Scott Roby see him as a friendly and outgoing guy. He always has a kind smile and eyes that invite you to conversation. To the ladies, he's easy on the eyes and the fellas want to have a beer with him. His compassion for all humans is undeniable and justice for all is undoubtedly a dream of his. Scott has a beautiful family. Jess and Jathan are constantly smiling and love their daddy like any child should. His high school sweetheart and wife of almost 12 years, Brandi, is currently pregnant with their third child, a little girl, due to arrive in this world on August 26th. Scott is a talented musician and plays guitar amazingly for the rock band 21st Century Goliath. Their rising popularity no doubt is in large part due to his role in the band. Scott Roby and his family need your help and support. He is currently serving a 16-20 month sentence in prison for an assault charge that can hardly be defined as malicious on his part. This is his story, and names of third parties have been changed to protect their identities. In 2007 at a bar in Salisbury, NC, Scott and some friends were involved in a verbal altercation with one Mr. S and one of his friends, Mr. M. Mr. M became irate and alluded to a weapon in his car which he had intentions of retrieving and using on Scott and his friends. Unarguably, anybody in this situation might feel on edge and in fear of their lives when threatened with a weapon. When he left the building and entered the parking lot, Scott was blindsided by Mr. S who came from Scott's right side to grab his collar. Caught off guard and in obvious fear for his well being, Scott punched Mr. S ONE SINGLE TIME in the face. Unfortunately, Mr. S was knocked unconscious and hit his head when he went down to the ground, and he remained unconscious for several days. During his initial toxocology screening at the hospital, Mr. S was found to have an illegal drug in his system. Any rational person can see this as a clear case of self defense. Scott was merely enjoying an evening out with friends when his physical well being was threatened by mention of a weapon by Mr. M. He was attacked in a parking lot and struck a man out of panic. Who of us would not defend ourselves in this same situation? The "fight or flight" response by the human body is not one easily controlled. Nor should Scott have been asked to control it when he was under attack. While the injury that Mr. S suffered from the altercation is unfortunate, he is responsible for his own actions. Anybody who chooses to begin an altercation and ambush an unarmed civilian should most certainly be prepared for the resulting consequences. As Americans, we should all feel protected in matters of self defense. The government is supposed to protect us when we've defended our lives. In this case, it did not, because Scott was convicted of assault inflicting serious bodily injury on Thursday July 5th, 2012 and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge William David Lee. No mitigating factors were heard by the judge. Judge Lee could have given Scott probation or even placed him under house arrest, but instead decided that Scott was a violent offender that needed to be taken off the streets and sentenced him to serve 16-20 months in prison. Judge Lee did not concern himself with the fact that Scott did not use overwhelming or unreasonable force or that Scott has a growing family to support. This is a family that loves him dearly and a family that is struggling to cope with their beloved being locked up like a violent criminal. Whether you know Scott Roby personally or are just hearing of him for the first time, you can agree that he is no violent criminal. His life was threatened. He was bombarded by a man who wanted to cause him harm. He had no idea how severe that harm might be and recognized that his life might even be in danger. The only natural and acceptable reaction by Scott was to defend himself. With one punch. One single punch was all it took for Scott to know that he was going to be okay. He knew that he was going to live on to care for his wonderful family and to pursue the music career for which he has such passion. And one judge has decided that this one punch was too much. One punch has put Scott Roby behind bars and serving time with violent criminals while his family mourns his absence from the home every single day. You can help. The Honorable William David Lee is granted certain powers by his respectable profession. I'm certain we can all empathize with the stress that this man must face in being responsible for the punishments handed to criminals. But, Scott Roby is no criminal. And we, as a people, can stand up and let the powers that be know that we do not view Scott as a criminal. We view Scott as a loving father who deserves to be home with his family. He has endured enough. Anyone who has ever had their life threatened by another human being knows the terror it can induce. And anyone who has had to react with physical violence to ensure their own survival knows the conflicted feelings that this can cause. Delinquency in the city of Dallas, Texas is getting more severe as we let it. Judges in Dallas should take delinquency punishments more severely. Delinquents are finding it easier to break the law as they don't see a punishment too serious. There has not only been two robberies in my restaurant in the same week, my son was also assassinated recently at only 19 years old. Officers in Dallas took care of both situations only to find the judges in Dallas Courts give, what I believe is a minor punishment.

Limiting the danger that guns pose to the general public, that the right to life precludes the right to "a well-regulated militia ... to keep and bear arms."

This petition is to stop the selling of high-capacity magazines for assault weapons. Help me be the voice for the innocent that have died or been maimed by these weapons. Help stop our local stores, including Walmart, that sell these high-capacity magazines. I am a former associate at Walmart, and got to see people bringing in their assault weapons to buy the ammunition that is used. Too many children and adults are dying because of the sale of high-capacity magazines. So, please, we need your help. Sign this petition.

House and Senate Republicans (self-admitted the party of "No") have abstructed laws from passing and benefiting the American people in order to weaken the President. Thus, these Republicans are anti-American saboteurs, fitting for indictment.

My issue is electronic voting machines and the easiness in which they can be hacked. This has been proven time and time again but our legislators do nothing to insure the safety and security of our votes. The GOP is trying to suppress the vote in 26 or more states and the point is, it is virtually a poll tax on poor people, older veterans, and those that can't afford it. In Texas, NRA ID is OK, but a Student ID is not...so it is clear the intentions of the GOP. There will be hundreds of thousands of people who will not be able to vote and that is not the America I love. Voting machines will be hacked by Karl Rove and his billionaire brothers; it was done in 2004 in Ohio. The hacker who sat two states over and shifted Kerry votes to Bush gave his deposition and days later he was dead. Karl Rove walked away from the Grand Jury without a scratch. I know he was key in orchestrating stealing votes from Kerry to Bush. In 2008 so many people voted that he was not able to pull it off in Penn., What they can't suppress, they will steal in key states to cover all the bases to defeat the sitting President. We must ban electronic voting machines and demand paper ballots in all 50 states. If Romney wins in a landslide...then we know they got away with it.

My daughter Satara, a resident for six years in Hollywood is tortured over months; then held captive (bit, cut, burned, strangled, hit, held in wall, hair yanked from head, raped, and worse). The city PD did not respond until death threats. the DA blames her for the captors force and memory changes to cause her harm, and his dropping drugs in her hospital room while mentally incompetent to choose. We are calling for the DA to drop the victim (Satara) charges, give her victims aid (funding to heal), and stop victimizing victims.

Numerous reports have surfaced about Vern Buchanan breaking campaign finance laws. He's even been named "Most Corrupt Congressman of the Moth" in July by the DCCC for campaign fundraising schemes, tax evasion and witness tampering. He serves as the chief of fundraising for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Repealing stand your ground laws in all states that have passed these laws. The law may have had good intentions but its effect on the populace is that they have the right to be judge and jury and we can't have that in America

Five men have died while in police custody since 2005, and the animal warden has been seen doing horrendous things to the animals in his care .Many animals have died as a result of the corruption in this town. They do not value life of any kind and we need HELP> This is important relating to (1) the torture, cover-up and death of Darrin Hanna; (2) the torture, mistreatment and death of Animals in the City Pound; (3) and the corruption and cover-up by City of North Chicago Officials and Police Officers relating to seized merchandise, monies and narcotics that have been taken, used or sold without proper authorization by City of North Chicago Officials and Police Officers.

Animal cruelty is a huge issue for me and many Americans. These K-9s were law enforcement peace officers which are an integral part of the force. This Deputy Steve Benoy left them overnight in his hot patrol car which resulted in death by heat exposure. This is completely unacceptable! San Antonio Texas in July is extremely HOT! No animal or child should EVER be left in a car in the heat! Any citizen that assaults or kills a peace officer, whether human or K-9 will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. A Sheriff Deputy should not get special treatment or be above the law. This is not the first incident Bexar County Sheriff's Department has had with killing their K-9 officers by leaving them in hot patrol cars but we can make sure this will be the last!
