David Koch, the oil and gas billionaire who has spent millions funding climate change denial, union-busting, and anti-government politicians, does not belong on the Board of Trustees at WGBH. Boston’s WGBH is the largest producer of national content for PBS, including the science program NOVA. David Koch has donated millions to climate change denial think tanks, proactively seeking to misinform Americans and undermine accurate scientific reporting. Someone with his anti-science track record should not have any role overseeing NOVA, or any other WGBH programming. Until recently, David Koch also sat on the board of WNET, New York City’s PBS affiliate. While he was on the board, WNET aired "Park Avenue", a film focused on the money, power, and inequality associated with New York's wealthiest residents, which included David Koch. Koch was offered an opportunity to write a statement rebutting the program, and WNET televised that statement immediately after the broadcast—an unheard of consideration. Not only that, the agency of public television that curated "Park Avenue", ITVS, pulled its funding from another film that featured David and Charles Koch, "Citizen Koch", apparently due to concerns that it would upset WNET and David Koch. This clear example of how Koch’s oversight can lead to journalistic self-censorship, together with Koch’s lengthy history of devoting millions to misinform Americans about climate change, can only lead to one conclusion: David Koch does not belong on the WGBH board.

In 2008, the United States Supreme Court sided with the U.S. Navy, saying National Security came before protecting our whales. Since that time, many whales have died and continue to die, as a result of Navy SONAR war games. The Supreme Court decision was wrong, and we would rather live in a world with whales and some risks rather than a world with no risks and no whales. Senator Brian Schatz (Hawaii-D) has introduced Senate bill S1046 to committee for a American Indian Veteran Soldier statue placed at the National Museum of the American Indian. We have traveled the country speaking to American Indian Soldiers and they do not want a statue at the museum, they want to be honored on the National Mall near the "Three Soldier Statue"

This bill is designed by the Humane Society of the United States, not your locate Humane Society. The ultimate goal of this organization is to end animal ownership, right down to the steak on your dinner plate. They are currently targeting Responsible Pure Bred Dog Breeders and The American Kennel Club whose main office is in Raleigh, NC. They are also targeting humane surgical procedures, specific dog breeds, the number of companion dogs people can own (3-4 in counties in the Charlotte area) and more. Ann McCrory, wife of NC Governor Pat McCrory, has found new friends among HSUS and has taken up their cause to regulate dog breeders. Mrs. McCrory lobbied the NC House and helped push the Dog Breeding Standards bill through with the speed of lightening. Mrs. McCrory - we do not need you lobbying against us. Working in any way for HSUS is shameful. HSUS only has one agenda and that is to remove animals from our lives.

I would like to request that a resolution is passed to announce October 5, 2013 as "Ostomy Awareness Day". As an ostomy patient, it is vital that we build greater awareness about these life saving conditions. In this time of expansion and growth of Moab’s trail system, especially along the scenic highway 128, we must reexamine the name “Negro Bill Canyon” and rename this popular hiking trail and campsite. By renaming Negro Bill Canyon as Grandstaff Canyon (and correcting the spelling of the nearby Granstaff Campground), we still acknowledge its history, while respecting the man: William J. Grandstaff.

Now more than ever, the United States needs a policy for genetically engineered food labeling: there are genetically engineered foods in up to 70 percent of the foods on grocery store shelves, the USDA is considering approving a genetically engineered apple this spring, and the FDA is nearing its approval of a genetically engineered salmon. The labeling of genetically engineered foods should be mandatory. The public has the right to make an informed choice about the food they buy for their families. Without mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods, consumers are left in the dark. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) has sponsored new federal labeling legislation, the Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act (S. 809), in the Senate. Take action and tell Senators Bennet (D-CO) and Udall (D-CO) to support the genetically engineered food labeling bill.
