• Reduce Mass-Shooting Victims
I'm a gun collector, (including AR-15), a 15yr carry-permit holder, and 200 acre wildlife habitat/ hunting land manager. In addition to 100% background/ registration requirement and enhanced security and mental health provisions, I support, as an immediate STEP ONE: BAN HIGH-CAPACITY MAGAZINES - Not Guns. No haggling over gun possession/ design*.. or 2nd Amendment**. Simply Outlaw Possession of any magazine/ clip (or other device) capable of feeding more than 10 bullets; (similar to silencer/ suppressor ban). 30 Days to turn in or destroy, after which federal/ felony; $10,000 fine, prison time, loss of gun ownership right. Results: 1. 40% to 75% fewer bullets fired per incident.. and numerous 'reload breaks' (Tucson) 2. Hundreds to thousands fewer gun deaths, injuries annually. 3. Over $1/2 Billion less cost to economy from gunshot deaths each year. * Semi-automatic hunting rifles, pistols and assault carbines have the same RPM (rounds per minute) firing rate if fed from high-capacity magazine; all are semi-automatic, auto-loading weapons. Auto feed drums of 6-50 rounds for shotguns also have no functional purpose other than mass-murder. ** 2nd Amendment permits individuals to possess a muzzle-loaded, single-shot, flintlock fired weapon. Revolvers didn't even exist until 44 years after the amendment; magazine/ clips, 100 years later. http://www.phillyburbs.com/my_town/warrington/second-amendment-written-with-flintlock-in-mind/article_e020f84b-2f47-52ac-8a2b-023cdcf95906.html

  • Congress: Sign pledge to reject contributions from gun lobby
There is no reason not to enact meaningful federal gun legislation. If all members of congress would vow to reject contributions from the gun lobby they would be free to truly vote their conscience.

, Carmen M. Ortiz
,District Of Massachusetts
Ortiz used her position to bully Aaron Swartz, the computer programmer and internet freedom activist, on dubious charges. Swartz passionately believed in Internet freedom, civil liberties, making information and knowledge as available as possible. Ortiz pursued him for this reason, and no other. • Adjuncts Power
We demand our fair share of the pie just like every other good and honest citizen of this great country. Adjuncts are the engines and backbones of every college and university across this country. So why are all adjuncts being subjected to this kind of exploitation, being treated as the lows of the lows and also being degraded to second-class citizens? I ask my fellow adjuncts, full-time colleagues, and all members of our civilized society to say enough is enough. We demand fair wages and decent working conditions. It’s time to make our voices heard.

  • White House: Say NO to NRA Proposal for More Armed Guards in Schools
In the weeks following the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut, a number of advocates, including the National Rifle Association, have called for more armed guards or police officers in public schools. While school safety is our highest priority, past experiences have taught us that police in schools do not increase safety, nor do they catch early indicators of mental health needs, identify root and underlying causes of violence, or use the resources of law enforcement in an effective way. Instead of addressing serious threats to safety, police in schools often respond to minor student misbehavior by handcuffing, arresting and criminalizing the young people they were intended to protect. This results in lower academic performance, lower graduation rates and higher numbers of dropouts. Contact with the juvenile justice system can have long-lasting consequences for young people, following them when applying for college, the military or a job. As Vice President Joe Biden’s task force on gun violence develops policy recommendations in response to the attack in Newtown and gun violence more generally, now is the time to speak up. Sign this petition to tell the White House not to embrace proposals to put more armed guards and police in schools.

  • Starbucks: Provide Baristas With Paid Sick Leave
According to the New York Times, America is in the grip of three emerging flu or flulike epidemics, and it's going to get worse before it gets better. Many office workers are encouraged to stay home if they're feeling ill, in the hopes of containing the outbreak. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for America's restaurant and fastfood chains. Starbucks baristas serve millions of customers every day, but most lack paid sick leave and many report going to work when they're feeling ill. Companies like Starbucks have a responsibility to their employees and their customers to help prevent the spread of illness. Join us in demanding that Starbucks take the lead and provide all of their workers with a fair amount of paid sick leave.

  • A NATIONAL PROGRAM TO PROTECT SCHOOLS
An initiative to install gunshot sensors around public schools would take them off the list of easy targets for criminals and provide instant police notification in future crises, all without intimidating our children, arming our teachers, or infringing anyone's protected rights.

  • Representative Gingrey: Resign from Congress
Just days ago, Representative Phil Gingrey (R-GA), an OB/GYN, defended the false and disgusting "legitimate rape" remarks made by his former colleague, Todd Akin. Because he is not only a Congressman, but also an OB/GYN, Phil Gingrey must resign from his seat because of his disgraceful, false, and offensive remarks. • Amend the Colorado Right to Ranch Statute
A number of big ranches sold out to developers in the 1980s. Developers, in order to keep a rural lifestyle in mind, developed sites of 35 or more acres in these subdivisions. Many have covenants requiring landowners to fence in their livestock (cattle) in order to protect the property rights of other landowners. However, these have failed because some unscrupulous ranchers and out-of-state investors who want illegal agricultural tax status have allowed cattle to roam freely in these subdivisions, causing thousands in property and overgrazing damage and pollution to the water table which supplies well water to those of us actually living on the land. Most of us in these subdivisions are retirees on a fixed income living off the grid and trying to live a peaceful, sustainable livestyle. That is being destroyed due to these people misusing the Colorado Right-To-Ranch law.
