  • Connecticut Legislature: We Are Single Issue Voters. Put An End To Gun Violence.
I am the President of the newly formed Greater Danbury Brady Campaign Chapter. We define ourselves as “A group of concerned citizens with a common goal of reducing Gun Violence in America”. We reside 15 minutes from Newtown, Conecticut. We have children who were traumatized by the lock-down they experienced on December 14th, 2012. We know Sandy Hook victims and we know their parents. We are single issue voters, we have friends, and we will turn out to vote. Additionally, we no longer shop at Walmart or any other large retailer that sells guns and ammo. Please pass legislation that: 1. Strengthens our assault weapons ban with a focus on improving current list and strengthening functionality features; apply “one military feature” test to definition of assault weapons. Bans possession and sale with no grandfathering. 2. Bans large capacity ammunition magazines of more than 7 rounds. No grandfathering. 3. Requires universal background checks on ALL sales and transfers, including long guns. 4. Requires registration of handguns with annual renewal. Require annual fee and annual background check for all guns owned; stipulation that they are still in the possession of original purchaser or transferee; explanation for any gun still not being in their possession. Require safety inspection every three years. Charge fee on initial registration and renewal. 5. Make gun owners liable for negligent storage if any person gains access to firearms and injures himself or another person or causes damage to property. The violation would be a Class D felony 6. Requires permit/license to purchase and carry all guns, including long guns, and to purchase ammunition 7. Prohibits sales of guns or ammunition via internet to CT residents. 8. Restricts handgun sales to one gun/month.

  • Female Religious LEADERS
I have been told by a local Catholic Priest that it would take more than a petition to change this. I DISAGREE. The churches that do not allow women to hold the Priesthood should not be allowed to have tax deductions in the USA.

  • Defend the Privacy and Freedom of Tennessee Women
SB632, sponsored by state Sen. Jim Tracy would require women to get an ultrasound before terminating a pregnancy, or have the fetus described to them by a doctor. SB632 is simply another attempt by a conservative Tennessee lawmaker to interfere with the personal lives of women and place the state between women and their physicians. SB632 is clearly unconstitutional under Tennessee’s right to privacy. Safe and legal access to reproductive health care services should not be subject to the whims of legislators or their political ambitions. As State Representative Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville) said, "If Sen. Tracy is truly interested in preventing abortions, he should take the money that we will have to pay to defend this potentially unconstitutional law and put it toward preventative contraception, prenatal health care, and pre-K education... As a woman and a teacher, I wish my fellow legislators would focus less time on trying to play doctor, and more time on helping women gain access to quality health care, a good education, and higher-paying jobs."

  • Women should have access to no-cost birth control, no matter where they work or live!
On February 1, the Obama administration announced they will hold the line on making no-cost birth control available to women under the Affordable Care Act, despite a small but vocal opposition. The president is making good on his promise to the 99 percent of sexually active American women who have used birth control at some point in their lives. We know what our opponents are capable of, and we cannot let them continue to stand between a woman and her body, her decisions, and her future. The administration has 60 days to collect public comments on the rule. Let’s make our voices heard! Sign up AND leave a comment in support of the administration's decision about birth control. This is about whether our bosses decide if we get access to birth control, or if we are trusted to make that decision. We think the right to make our own health care decisions is worth fighting for.

  • Governor Scott and Legislature: Stop Florida Budget Incentives That Keep Us Under the Gun
Residents of Penney Retirement Community have been deeply saddened by the repeated incidents of gun violence that have targeted children. We recognize that proper mental health services are a necessary component of any proposed solution to stop shooters. We conducted a prayer vigil following the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, and we are anxious and determined to do everything we can with the help of like-minded citizens to prevent a similar act from occurring in Florida.

  • No limitations on Rape Charges
Some states have 3 day rules to report a rape. While this makes some sense think of how it affects the smallest victims - children. It may take more than three days to report a rape - the victim should be able to report the rape when they are ready - this limitation should be illegal. Also some states have limitations on the time period to convict a rapist - as this crime is one of the worst next to murder there should be no statutue of limitations on rape. A rapist should be convicted and a victim should have ample time to report the violation as it is a sensitive conviction. And if the rapist manages to hide from the law for 7 years this is not a reason to drop the conviction - there should be no statute of limitations for a rape conviction. Laws applying to rape cases - eliminating these restrictions to victims should be federal law so that the states cannot interfere with victims constitutional rights.
