• Tell Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli: Letting Bosses Deny Women Birth Control isn’t a Ci...
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli is far out of the mainstream when it comes to women’s health. His entire career has been an exercise in trying to reduce and deny women access to care. He has co-sponsored “personhood” measures that would give full legal rights to fertilized eggs, supported defunding Planned Parenthood, and was the first attorney general to file a lawsuit to overturn the Affordable Care Act (ACA) — on the same day the bill was signed into law. Now, he’s trying to find ways to deny women access to birth control by letting your boss decide whether you get coverage through the ACA. What’s outrageous is that he is invoking the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to support his position — saying that employers who want to deny women access to birth control should engage in civil disobedience. In fact, Dr. King was among the first recipients of Planned Parenthood’s Margaret Sanger Award, and he said of health care inequality: “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.” Of course, Dr. King’s words are the opposite of what AG Cuccinelli supports. Nearly 1.4 million women in Virginia are potentially at risk of losing coverage if Cuccinelli has his way.

  • Cathrynn Brown: Withdraw Your Bill & RESIGN NOW! Co-Sponsors Explain Your Actions!
HB 206, introduced at the NM Legislature by NM Rep. Cathrynn Brown (R) would seek to force women to carry to term a fetus as a result of rape or incest. Now, Cathrynn Brown is trying to back-track and say the bill was a mistake. I DON'T BUY THAT. Her bill was an addition to current statutes of just 41 words, and Rep. Brown is a lawyer trained to read complex documents. Plus she had 9 proofreaders in her co-sponsors! I worked at a Rape Crisis Center all through law school and it is so clear to me that she has no experience in assisting rape victims, but she is again failing to stand up for NM women. Cathrynn Brown must withdraw the bill & RESIGN NOW! We are also asking the following co-sponsors to withdraw the legislation and explain their actions: Reps. Anna M. Crook, Candy Spence Ezzell, Diane Miller Hamilton, Jane E. Powdrell-Culbert, Sharon Clahchischilliage, Nora Espinoza, Kelly Fajardo, Yvette Herrell and Monica Youngblood.

  • Tell Congress: Pass the Violence Against Women Act now
Well, finally. You probably heard that the last Congress was one of the least productive in history. Even worse than that, they're the first Congress to fail to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). So it's good news that leaders in the new Congress, in both the House and Senate, just introduced VAWA again. Even better, the versions that have been introduced expand protections to communities who are especially vulnerable to sexual and domestic violence--Native American women, immigrant women, and members of the LGBT community. But those expanded protections are the very reason House conservatives shamefully refused to act on VAWA last year--leaving millions of women without crucial protections. So if we don't push Congress, hard, it might not even come up for a vote this year. Reporters are already covering the new VAWA bills, and conservatives didn't face nearly enough pressure when they failed to act last year, so now is the time to speak up. New members of Congress are particularly sensitive to news coverage early in their terms, and want to avoid bad press at all costs. So we need to put pressure on them right away. Can you sign this petition telling Congress to expand and reauthorize VAWA?

  • Withdraw Bill HB0206 - New Mexico Bill Would Criminalize Abortions After Rape As 'Tampering With ...
A Republican lawmaker in New Mexico introduced a bill on Wednesday that would legally require victims of rape to carry their pregnancies to term in order to use the fetus as evidence for a sexual assault trial. House Bill 206, introduced by state Rep. Cathrynn Brown (R), would charge a rape victim who ended her pregnancy with a third-degree felony for "tampering with evidence."

  • Legislators: Pass the ERA!
Women are now officially authorized to serve in the military's combat zones. This action nullifies the argument made by opponents of the ERA, namely, that passing the ERA, would subject women to combat action. My daughters, sisters,I and this nation's women demand to be acknowledged as having equal rights to men under federal law.

Rhode Island can solve its budget crisis – Own a Bank! Restoring credit to the local economy must happen at the state level. The Fed is not the answer.
