• Let our NEWLY elected President choose the next Supreme Court Judge
In order for our Democratic process to be strong, our voices NEED to be heard by our Representatives and our democratically elected President. Supreme Court appointees are life time appointments and they do need to actually REPRESENT, We The People. In less than 2 months we will have an opportunity to decide who is going to shoulder that serious responsibility. And we are urging the President, the Senate and the House of Representative to honor the People's wishes.

  • Denton Needs an LGBTQIA Non-Discrimination Ordinance
There are many voices in Denton that have been pushing for this change based on their own experiences. You can see stories from your own neighbors about instances of discrimination in housing, employment, and medical care from this local site: https://yall-means-all.com/stories/. This local site also has a page for getting involved for those who want to take more direct action. You can learn more about the experience of LGBTQIA Texans from the Williams Institute of Law (linked below), which sums up some experiences, facts, and laws that currently harm or fail to protect the community right here in our state. This climate is what makes this ordinance more important than ever. https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/publications/impact-lgbt-discrimination-tx/ These stories of discrimination are just some of many that LGBTQIA Americans face in Texas, in Denton, and in our community. We have such a vibrant, wonderful city culture, but behind the scenes, some of our valuable residents and neighbors are still living in a society that can get away with treating them as "less-than,” and our Mayor and City has declined to stand up for them. It's time we change that! (Please note: We contacted local community leaders, and we worked with them prior to setting up this petition. We mean only to continue the conversation, push our neighbors to act, and to honor the work that has been done and will continue to be done to help Denton be the place we know it is).

  • No Vote on Supreme Court Nominee until After the Election
Every American expects politicians to uphold their word and promises, both past and present. As Garland did not get a vote during an election year, neither should any nomination by Trump.

  • Do not fill Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Supreme Court seat until after the 2021 inauguration
Every senator from across the political spectrum must acknowledge the danger posed by rushing to fill Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat so close to an election. We all remember Mitch McConnell's blockade of President Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland 237 days before the 2016 election. The 2020 election has already started—with voting already underway in many states—and it would be a truly inexcusable act of hypocrisy and injustice for Trump and Senate Republicans to move any nomination forward. Ruth Bader Ginsburg spent her life protecting women's rights and advancing justice for those disenfranchised by the political establishment. Trump—who lost the popular vote by millions—must not be allowed to further demolish the American judiciary. Many Republican senators have already committed publicly that they would not move a nomination forward in the event of a vacancy at this late date. We must honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg's legacy and hold every politician accountable to the most basic standards of fairness by demanding they not move any new nomination forward for a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the nation until every vote is counted and the inauguration is complete.

  • Lower Rent at Seasons of Cherry Creek Apartments
It is important to be transparent with the residents of the Seasons about what their hard-earned income pays for each month. While many amenities are completely shut down and others have limited hours with reservations, the cost of rent remains the same. THE RENT IS TOO HIGH!

  • Keep RBG's Seat Open Until After Inauguration Day
After the death of Justice Antonin Scalia, Senator Mitch McConnell stated, "Of course, the American people should have a say in the court's direction. It is a president's constitutional right to nominate a Supreme Court justice, and it is the Senate's constitutional right to act as a check on the president and withhold its consent." He held the seat vacant for over 321 days (between the date President Obama nominated Merrick Garland to the day President Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch). It is only right that he respect the American people's choice in the court's direction. Senator McConnell must keep Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat open until after Inauguration Day 2021.

  • Respect Justice Ginsburg’s Legacy: No Rushed Senate Confirmation
We’re shocked and heartbroken by the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a true champion for our democracy and rule of law. As widely reported, just days before her death, Justice Ginsburg dictated this statement to her granddaughter Clara Spera: "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.” President Trump and Senate Majority Leader McConnell should honor her wish. But unfortunately, we must prepare for the possibility that President Trump and Mitch McConnell to rush through a Supreme Court nomination -- abdicating their constitutional duty to thoroughly vet any nominee in order to fill Justice Ginsburg’s seat before the election. In fact, earlier this year, McConnell said that he would reverse his posture from 2016, and that he would confirm a Supreme Court nominee in an election year. And just weeks ago, President Trump released a list of possible nominees in an attempt to fire up his base. We’re demanding that senators use all means at their disposal to do their constitutional duty, and ensure a thorough, careful, & transparent vetting process. With the Senate adjourning in two weeks, they still need to pass a continuing resolution to fund government, as well as pass coronavirus relief that will properly fund local governments, election security, and the Postal Service. There is simply not enough time for the Senate to conduct a rigorous confirmation process in addition to those urgent, necessary priorities. And, a rushed confirmation process at their expense would only undermine the Senate and the Supreme Court’s legitimacy in the eyes of the American people. If you agree, please add your name in support today.

  • #RingTheAlarm: no fascist nominee to SCOTUS
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a legal giant, and a tireless champion of justice and equality. She was an iconic inspiration to millions, and a bulwark of fairness on the nation's highest court. Contrast that to the men Trump has already short-listed for her replacement: far-right zealots like Tom Cotton, Ted Cruz, or hardcore loyalists like Attorney General Barr. Right now our democracy is on a razor's edge - and stopping our nation's descent into far-right, white supremacist fascism depends on fighting with everything we've got to defend the balance of the Supreme Court. Spread this call to action far and wide...ring the alarm!

  • Mayor London Breed, Emily Murase, SFMTA: REINSTATE the 57 Parkmerced/18-46th Ave on John Muir Dr.
Cutting all service to our community is causing extreme hardship for many people. No service means riders, living on John Muir Drive, are forced to walk almost TWO miles just to be able to get to the nearest SF Muni bus line, shop for groceries, pick up prescriptions, go to the post office, go to the bank, purchase food without having to pay delivery fees. Please help take action to keep the 57 ParkMerced/ 18-46th Ave (or ANY bus line) continued on John Muir Drive, even in a limited capacity, by signing this petition.

  • Stop the appointment of a climate denier to NOAA!
As fires fueled by a climate crisis rage across the West Coast, Trump just appointed a climate denier to a key position in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration -- the federal agency that focuses on weather and climate. Trump's new appointee, David Legates, believes the sun and not unchecked carbon emissions cause climate change. He even said rising CO2 levels in the ocean are fine because they'll produce bigger crabs. Legates has ties to the Koch brothers, who have funded his climate denial research in the past. He also has ties to the Heartland Institute, a far-right think tank that fight against efforts to stop the climate crisis. Trump is stacking federal agencies with stay-behind forces who will continue to advance his extremist agenda even if Trump isn't there for a second term. That's why Congress needs to act now to stop climate deniers like Legates from taking up crucial positions that oversee federal climate research. Can you help?

  • Rename Fletcher Bowron Square, LA's Mayor racist radio rants against Americans of Japanese ancestry
Statues, buildings, airports, and parks should not honor racists, people who are the antithesis of what it means to be an American, a country of immigrants, a country on land taken from others and built by immigrants of all ethnicities. We, Angelenos should not have a park named for one who fanned the flames of war hysteria and race prejudice and failed to lead with justice and reason. I believe that this park, located adjacent to Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, in a city that has always been multicultural, should not memorialize this man. Let's rename the park!
