Warfleigh, Broad Ripple, North Butler-Tarkington and surrounding areas lie in a 100-year flood plain, placing lives and homes at risk. The Indianapolis North Flood Damage Reduction Project seeks to remove these areas from the flood plain. Most recently, the City of Indianapolis announced its plan to complete the project. However, opposition to the project remains strong with some seeking to either temporarily or permanently cease project progress. Meanwhile, while the lives and homes of residents remain at risk, Congress acted in 2012 to impose additional hardship upon affected residents by passing the Biggert-Waters Act which sharply increases premiums and rates charged to homeowners for flood insurance.

This proposed amendment was intended to give Congress the right to enact statutes criminalizing the burning or other desecration of the United States flag in a public protest. Proponents of legislation to proscribe flag burning argue that burning the flag is a very offensive gesture that deserves to be outlawed. Our flag represents the struggle our nation went through in earning and paving the way to freedom and no American she disrespect it so blatantly by publicly burning it. This is not a freedom of Speech issue, as protesters could come up with other ways to show their displeasure. Help me make it illegal to destroy the national symbol of our nations freedom!

My son died of a heroin overdose. We tried in vain to get him the help he needed, but we were only given 5-7 days in detox. He hated his addiction. One month before he died I cried , pleaded with his probation officer to please send him somewhere where he could stay to get the help he need. All I got back was we're doing the best we can with what we've got, and that he hasn't harmed anyone yet. I said to them, is that what it takes to place someone in harm's way before the system helps? I want this petition so that his death was not in vain. He was such a kind, successful, loving man.

Black victims of violence, particularly those who fall at the hands of police, are routinely painted explicitly or implicitly as somehow deserving of their fate. This has got to stop. I used to drive for a living and my trips took me over and under the Interstate 35 W bridge several times a week, frequently on a Friday afternoon between 5 and 5:30 p.m.. On the day the 35 bridge collapsed I had left work 4:30 and was in my kitchen preparing dinner when the story hit the airwaves. Every time I see the picture I am reminded that I could have been under that rubble. According to the Federal Highway Administration, more than 70,000 bridges throughout America are deemed “Structurally Deficient”. Corporate America,, local and state leaders, and even the conservative U.S. Chamber of Commerce are asking for massive investments in bridges, roads, railways and airports. According to the story, 30,000 well paying jobs would be created for every $1 billion of investment. It is time for Americans to say “Enough! Stop avoiding the problem and start fixing it!”. The United States and our allies have agreed to extend talks with Iran over the future of their nuclear program. While I am disappointed that we did not reach a comprehensive agreement, progress was made, and the decision to extend the negotiations is a far better outcome than a bad deal or no deal at all. This additional time will allow us to bridge the gaps that remain while still ensuring that Iran's current capabilities are strictly limited. Tuesday's agreement means that as long as the talks continue, Iran’s nuclear program will be frozen and tough sanctions will remain in place. I know that many of my colleagues will be tempted to pass new sanctions to try to scare the Iranians into a deal. But I continue to believe that new sanctions passed by Congress, just as the Iranians are starting to show some movement in the negotiations, would be deeply counterproductive. Therefore, I plan to continue to lead the effort in the Senate to support the negotiations and urge my colleagues to resist efforts to pass new sanctions legislation. I would welcome your help in this fight.

NYS is about to vote on including or eliminating Out of Network benefits on the NYS of Health Insurance Exchange policies. This will directly effect patients in Psychotherapy, making it impossible for thousands of patients to pay for therapy without Out-of-Network benefits, interrupting their therapeutic relationship in the middle of treatment. This is a danger to their well-being. Sign to insist that Out of Network benfits are a required option on the NYS of Health website policies.

Oscar Grant. Trayvon Martin. Michael Brown. Enough is enough. Now is the time to translate words into action, problems into solutions, tragedy into silver linings. Petition state legislature to enact this bill, requiring police officers to wear a video camera, mandate police training against racial profiling, and mandate police participation in community service programs for disadvantaged youth and people of color.

We owe it to victims to move forward with these reforms. While it will be a very busy legislative session, we can’t forget how important it is to clean up the National Guard scandal so we all can once again be proud of this important institution for Alaska.

Current lack of enforcement ignores growing threats of Bakken oil explosions so extensive and toxic, fire chiefs have testified that "even if we had an infinite amount of foam," the fires and toxic emissions would continue until all fuel had been exhausted, killing people and destroying wide swaths of land and riverbanks as they burned. Railroads are making secret decisions and hiding documents to such an extent, the federal Department of Transportation says it’s "impossible to know" to what extent railroads have prioritized or ignored safety in choosing routes. Railroads have also lobbied against federal regulatory efforts aimed at retrofitting tank cars for greater safety. Congress and the White House, Homeland Security and the FRA need to address the danger of Bakken oil explosions before disaster strikes.

Criminal activity should not be tolerated in colleges and Universities. CSU is blocking Jamie from her chosen profession and needs to let her finish her last semester of classes now.

I live in a small rural neighborhood and have been told by CenturyLink that we will never have high speed internet because it doesn't make good business sense. I am tired of sitting in the library parking lot so my kids can do their homework, or I can upgrade my computer or access my health care. Having access to high speed internet is essential. Without funding, the infrastructure will never be built and include all of us.
