I don't want senior citizens and others to be taxed out of their homes due to Mayor Emanuel's proposed property tax increases.

I, as well of many other classmates, have been affected negatively affected by current standardized test practices in our local school systems. These negative effects have brought us down academically, and have made our chances of succeeding in the way we would like to succeed decrease. Changes in our standardized test practices will not only be better for our students, but better for society as a whole, creating a society full of students with high potential.

Once you a criminal record in our country it can destroy your whole life. Your chance for decent housing, food, education, everything is tied to your ability to work. Due to the disproportionate number of Blacks caught in the criminal injustice system, the question about criminal history is used as a proxy for race. As a person of faith I want to work for justice.

I have witnessed the decline of respect for our educators. I am a teacher at a Middle School. I see the urgent need to provide security for our teachers in this state.

The persistent threat by domestic terrorists, like Cliven Bundy and his armed supporters, to the welfare of our country and our people should not be tolerated. They should be prosecuted as the traitors and terrorists they are.

Twenty-two UCSC students were arrested and are facing civil and University judicial charges for peacefully demonstrating in solidarity with the UAW Teaching Assistant strike on April 2nd and 3rd. The University administration must stop this crackdown on labor activism and drop these charges.

The 2030-40 idea is simple. Enact legislation and provide incentives to guarantee that the United States accelerates its transition from 'dirty' CO2 emitting power sources to clean, renewable energy. The United States ranks second only to China in total carbon emissions from power plants. Meanwhile, the European Union is to meet in 2014 and expand their highly successful renewable energy policies. In the pursuit of energy independence and in the face of rapid climate change, we must demand that the government set concrete and meaningful goals to reduce carbon emissions and foster the growth and global adoption of renewable energy.

Because this is an issue that affects all New Yorkers. Many people hate Andrew Cuomo's policies and lack of keeping campaign promises. Yet we do not want to have a GOP candidate in office.

When a song is played on terrestrial radio, the musicians and performers receive no compensation whatsoever. They also are denied royalties payment from other countries that DO compensate performers. It is time we recognize the value of music creators.

For too long, New York City and Montreal have been in a bagel war. We hope to bring about a peace where bagel lovers from both sides of the border may enjoy a delicious bagel and schmear.
