• Save CSUSB Women's Water Polo
Cal State San Bernardino is planning on cutting the women's water polo program after this year. The young women on the team deserve to continue to play. The school doesn't currently have a track so replacing the water polo program with track and field will cost millions of dollars and increase tuition for everyone. They already have everything they need to continue playing water polo. Save the women's water polo team.

  • We're Halfway There. Tell Delaware's Senate to Expand Voting Rights
America's elections are broken. Not only do people with the most money fund our system, but also the election process itself systematically raises barriers to participation. People of color, young people, and college students are less likely to be registered and therefore less likely to vote. That’s true here in Delaware just as it is in Georgia, Ohio, and North Carolina where burdensome ideological-driven restrictions are being implemented to prevent more people from voting. And the result is that our democratic system is more accountable to people with money than it is to the rest of us. However, we are fighting back and we are winning. Since last year, I’ve been working with a diverse and powerful coalition of community organizations, faith leaders, civil rights organizations, labor, and advocates in pushing for House Bill 105, Same Day Voter Registration (SDR) in Delaware. Same Day Registration allows individuals to register to vote and cast their ballot on the same day. Same Day Registration is one the most effective ways to increase participation in our democracy. Our coalition has organized community leaders and raised our voice in support of Same Day Registration. And we passed the first hurdle, getting the bill to pass the Delaware House. This was no easy task, despite the obvious democratic benefits that Same Day Registration could bring to Delaware, a few self-interested politicians were pushing to block Same Day Voter Registration. Now, that we've won in the House we're hearing many of the conservative talking points — that voting is a privilege that should be restricted to the few — rather than a right that we should be fighting to protect. I believe strongly in the right to vote and that is why I'm continuing the fight with my coalition partners to expand voting rights and strengthen our democracy in Delaware.

  • Esmeralda & her kids shouldn't be torn away from their home!
Why are immigration officials in the Obama Administration targeting a mother of three U.S. citizens for deportation? If ICE officials go through with Esmeralda's deportation, her entire family will be devastated. Her two oldest children have received numerous awards for good grades and behavior, but they'll be forced to leave their school and home! Even their principal thinks ICE is making a terrible mistake -- the girls should be able to finish school just like any other child. Esmeralda has lived in the US for 14 years. She has no criminal record and pays her taxes. She'd likely qualify for the path to citizenship in the Senate immigration bill, but House Republicans refuse to bring it to a vote. The Obama Administration shouldn't punish Esmeralda and her girls just because Congress won't do its job. Esmeralda has no other family in the US, and she's terrified of taking her daughters back to her native Michoacan, where violent drug cartels are a part of daily life. We can help Esmeralda and her children by asking the Obama Administration to grant her a "stay of removal" so they can stay home where they belong. The petitions you've signed in the past have stopped several deportations -- we know we can help Esmeralda and her family, too! Esmeralda's children shouldn't be torn from their country, and Esmeralda from the only place she calls home. We need to help keep this family here!

  • UNHCR-Egypt: Reopen Emergency Cases
I have lived, studied, and worked in Egypt for over a year in 2007-2008, and 2010, specifically focusing on community-based self-education efforts in African refugee communities. This is how I met Abdel Rahman. Abdel Rahman is originally from Darfur, and has been living in Cairo, Egypt for about a decade, suffering the agonies of life as an African refugee. On Sunday March 23rd, Abdel Rahman was brutally assaulted at night in Cairo, and represents the countless many who face such challenges on a daily basis. He is currently re-opening his file with the UNHCR-Cairo office, and seeks immediate relocation out of Egypt. In 1951, Egypt made reservations to refugee rights chartered by the UNHCR Refugee Convention, also known as the Geneva Convention, effectively disallowing refugees the right to access public relief and humanitarian assistance. Most of Egypt's refugees are hopelessly unemployed, and in dire need of educational, and professional opportunities, especially those further marginalized by race, ethnicity, and religion, as is the case with African refugees in Cairo, Egypt.

  • Gov Christie - Stop Wasting Our Tax Dollars to Promote Your Political Career
NJ Citizen Action is launching this petition to demand that Governor Christie stop wasting taxpayer dollars to promote his political ambitions. Some of Gov Christie's most egregious tax-wasting hits include: 1. Spending over $1 million in legal fees, paid for by us, the New Jersey taxpayers, on an internal "investigation" exonerating him of all wrong doing in the Bridgegate scandal. 2. Mis-using 25 million in taxpayer dollars to fund the "Stronger than the Storm " ad campaign, featuring Gov Christie and his family, during an election year, when a bid from another firm which would not have featured Christie or his family, came in several million dollars cheaper. 3. Needlessly wasting 12 million in taxpayer dollars to fund a Special Senate Election, scheduled less than three weeks before the regularly scheduled November election, guaranteeing Governor Christie top billing on the November ballot.

  • Save wildlife and abolish Wildlife Services
It is egregious that our tax dollars support the killing of wildlife by the federal agency Wildlife Services. In 2012 they killed over 306,000 redwinged blackbirds, 400 river otters, 12,500 black tailed prairie dogs and much more. It is paramount that we stop slaughtering wildlife. This is the new century and we have new and better ways to sustain our ecosystems than by promoting killing.

  • VOTE NO HB 1212
State Representative Ted James filed HB 1212, which if passed, would change the state constitution and the more than 100-year-old Lawrason Act. "All of the sudden, they want to change the rules halfway through the game," Incorporate St. George spokesman Lionel Rainey said. HB 1212 is one of many trying to thwart the incorporation effort. St. George supporters believe lawmakers are changing the rules and the constitution to get their own agenda across.
