As someone born and raised in Hawaii, I have seen our homeless population grow over my lifetime. We need smart and effective policies to ensure that we are creating solutions and NOT treating people like criminals.

The students of Booker T. Washington High School have been getting ill due to mold exposure at school since August 2013. The APS Board of Education has voted to relocate students of another school who are not facing a major health hazard into a new location; however, despite pleas by students, parents and community leaders to relocate the students and teachers at Booker T. Washington to another location while the mold is remediated, the APS Board of Education has refused. The students and teachers at Washington High School deserve a healthy learning environment and the same consideration and respect that is given to other students and teachers in the Atlanta Public Schools system. In order to prevent further illness, they must be relocated NOW!

We are washing away because of the dredging on both ends of our island and the government tells us we have to let nature take its course. They are destroying the habitats of countless animals as well as destroying an entire communities livelihood. We can stabilize the coastline with natural reefs providing marine life with a place to flourish as well as building a beach for the land animals to live and grow. All of this will protect the humans that have lived here for thousands of years as well!

Our nation is continuing in the trend of disinterested voters. I think the current age gap between the first year someone decides to vote, and the first time they could have voted is too long.

The proposed building of multi-family condominiums with access from Arch Hill Drive via Cedar Crest Drive will create a congestive and unsafe amount of traffic diverting through the Balcones Village/Spicewoood neighborhood. Cedar Crest Drive is a narrow road with no sidewalks that currently serves as the main pass-through between Balcones Village and Spicewood. Cedar Crest is also the main thoroughfare for parents and buses taking children to Spicewood Elementary from Balcones, and Canyon Vista Middle School from Spicewood. Allowing access to the proposed development from inside the BV/S neighborhood (and possibly Anderson Mill Road) will encourage commuters to create a route through the neighborhood to access Hwy 183 in lieu of using Anderson Mill. Furthermore, the increased traffic of that would result if condominium residents must use interior streets to access their homes, the neighborhood roads would become even more congested and dangerous. It's time to put an end to Republicans' unprecedented obstruction of President Obama's executive and judicial nominees. Through a simple majority vote, the Senate could change the rules and make sure that people in America have a government that works. Right now, dozens of judicial nominations are tied up in the Senate. Many other presidential nominations, including ambassadors, commission members and department leaders are also being denied an up or down vote. Believing that there are fundamental, emotional and intellectual differences between children and adults, Advocates for Abandoned Adolescents' mission is to end the practice of trying, sentencing and incarcerating youth under 18 in the adult criminal justice system.Our mission is to place a national spotlight upon the nations approach to juvenile justice, and to place faces and stories to the children that were waived, and thereby, held to an adult standard in the courtroom and then sent to adult prisons. Our mission is to end the practice of sentencing children to life without the possibility of parole, and to reduce the harm caused to children in adult prisons by supporting legislation that will make those who were sentenced as children eligible to have their sentences reviewed at some point during their incarceration. I think it's important that America's focus and attention also include the teenagers that were waived and sentenced to long terms of imprisonment in the adult prison system 15/16/17/years ago. I think Justice for these Juvenile offenders would include Liz Ryan, the Director for the campaign for youth justice called the 2nd look Legislation. '2nd Look' means youth serving long sentences get their sentences reviewed at some point in their incarceration. Would you consider 2nd look Legislation? Be the voice for youth so that the babies born today will not become the juvenile defendants waived into adult courtrooms and given lengthy prison sentences of tomorrow.

Thousands of Nepalese workers are being forced to work in 122F degree heat with no access to food or water, no pay, passports held to prevent them from leaving. Experts estimate over 1 million migrant workers could be at risk of modern slavery in Qatar between now and the 2022 World Cup; an average of twelve workers could die per week unless action is taken at this critical stage in the construction process. There have been serious challenges in protecting migrant workers from modern slavery in Qatar. But with the prestige of hosting the World Cup on the line, there has never been a better chance to push the Qatari government for change. If FIFA takes advantage of this opportunity for policy reform, workers could be protected from falling into the nightmare of modern slavery in Qatar for generations to come. Tell FIFA to help ensure construction for the Qatar World Cup does not use slave labour.

This petition is here to say people's lives and struggles aren't a game and breaking up people's families isn't funny. To joke and think this it is fun, oppresses those who live it everyday.

Taxes and grant money goes toward incarcerating parent's in contempt of child support. Tax payers want taxes and grants to go toward parent's in contempt - to work in programs (retail, fast food, janitorial, etc.) established with local companies to have wage garnishment while the parent works - versus incarceration and the children go without any money. Please give funding toward parent's who work instead of quota's and money toward the number of incarcerations. Companies may get tax breaks with these work programs and children will be provided for versus parent's sitting in jail without providing for the child/children. If parent's refuse to work in the programs for their child -they can clean the city streets as a service to taxpayers.

My house is located directly next to the lot where a new 9 story hotel /community center is planned to start construction NEXT WEEK. The neighbors that live near this site (16 Olive) deserve to know what type of hotel/hostel this will be and the type of community services that are planned in this building. The property is included in the IBZ (Industrial Business Zone) zoning designation of Grand Street but THIS type of Property is not appropriate for POWERS & OLIVE streets.
