Closing the Medicaid Expansion GapAs a physician in the state of Georgia, I have seen first hand the results of lack of health insurance. I have seen people with high blood pressure who develop heart failure and strokes because they cannot afford their blood pressure medications. I have seen people with diabetes who go on to develop kidney failure because of inadequate care. Many of these are the working poor - cooks, cashiers, cleaners, decent people who are working hard to make ends meet. They should not be left at the risk of unnecessary death, disability and financial ruin in the United States of America at this day and age despite the passage of the Affordable Care Act. The richest country in the world should not be the only developed country in which the poor do not have guaranteed access to healthcare, something that citizens of all other developed countries take for granted.219 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Obi Emerole

Change the Name of the Washington Pro Football TeamNative Americans have engaged in a variety of lawsuits and protests to change the name of the Washington professional football team. Native Americans are hurt by a name that is demeaning and offensive. We stand in solidarity with them and ask Dan Snyder, the owner, to change the name now!295 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Josh Silver

DEMAND THAT THE CA FIDUCIARIES BUREAU ENACT STRICTER CONSUMER PROTECTIONS FOR THE VULNERABLE CALI...The Proponant is starting this peition because Julia Ansel, a licensed California Fiduciary, and the politically appointed Chief of the California Dept. of Consumer Affairs Fiduciaries Bureau has claimed that the Fiduciaries Bureau has no authority to force a guardian, conservator, trustee, agent of power of attorney to provide specific reasonable and necessary needs to the vulnerable clients thereof.54 of 100 SignaturesCreated by FiduciaryWatch, Inc.

STRENGTHENING SOCIAL SECURITY ACT OF 2013The Social Security Administration, having an independent funding source via payroll deductions, has no impact on our National Deficit or National Debt. However, in past debates over the budget, President Obama has proposed adjustments to Social Security Benefits, such as changing CPI to “chained-CPI” calculations. This would reduce Social Security Benefits for retired citizens, disabled individuals and veterans and deceased workers' survivors. Budget discussions must not include changes to Social Security benefits. A Public Policy Poll (PPP) in August indicated that significantly more that 50% of Americans are opposed to using the “Chained-CPI” method to calculate inflation adjustments. The Strengthen Social Security Act of 2013 addresses this issue and others to sustain Social Security and improve the economic and retirement security of millions of Americans (36% of Soc. Sec. recipients receive 90% of their income from Social Security benefits). The Strengthen Social Security Act of 2013 would: Strengthen Benefits by Reforming the Social Security Benefit Formula: The Act would change the method by which the Social Security Administration (SSA) calculates Social Security benefits. This change will boost benefits for all Social Security beneficiaries by approximately $70 per month, but is targeted to help those in the low and middle of the income distribution, for whom Social Security has become an ever greater share of their retirement income. Ensure that Cost of Living Adjustments Adequately Reflect the Living Expenses of Retirees: The Act changes the way the Social Security Administration calculated the Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA). To ensure that benefits better reflect cost increases facing seniors, future COLAs will be based on the Consumer Price Index for the Elderly (CPI-E). Making this change to Social Security is expected to result in higher COLAs, insuring that seniors are able to better keep up with the rising costs of essential items, like health care and prescription drugs. Improve the Long Term Financial Condition of the Trust Fund: Social Security is not in crisis, but does face a long term deficit. According to the most recent Social Security Trustees' report, the Trust Fund will be able to pay full benefits through 2033 (after which, benefits would only be reduced). To help extend the life of the trust fund, and decrease the 75 year actuarial deficit, the legislation would phase out the current taxable cap of $113,700 and instead ask the wealthiest Americans to contribute to the program the same share of their income as the middle class. A comprehensive graphic analysis of these issues was produced by Democracy for America, Social Security Works, MoveOn.org and GHERGICH & Co. Please view it at this link: http://act.democracyforamerica.com/sign/social_security_infographic/?akid=4145.922777.Fz4UDL&rd=1&source=em.socsecinfo.20131108&t=1 (copy & paste) Americans cannot afford to have their Social Security benefits cut. The Strengthen Social Security Act of 2013 needs to be enacted to protect our retired, disabled and surviving citizens. Please sign this petition to influence our senators to stand up for the strengthening of Social Security.99 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Elizabeth Dokken (Betty)

Transparency Regarding the TPPI am starting this petition because I believe there should be transparency in this trade agreement between the US and 11 other countries. The Clinton administration gave us NAFTA which harmed the American worker, resulted in job losses, and now Obama is set to force this one through. Details on it are very scarce because the benefits to the people are said to be purely coincidental, if any. It's essentially being written by corporations so they can overrule existing local and national laws to maximize their profits. It is said that it will degrade environmental protection standards, workplace safety standards, strengthen instead of thoughtfully reform copyright and patent laws that slow innovation and progress, instate certain surveillance and law enforcement regulations along with certain internet freedom and openness restrictions proposed in SOPA and ACTA, and even make prescription drugs more expensive by extending the patent terms. We need more, not less protections for this planet and it's inhabitants. We deserve to not only know about but have a say in something that is in one way or another going to have a long reaching effect on our lives.71 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Danny Thompson

Have a child abuse hotline for each individual county in NM.Hotlines are ineffective and too many of our babies are dying because of this problem. I have found that there are cases where people have called and been placed on hold for hours. Also there are cases where reports are not investigated because not enough reports are made and next thing you know the child is dead. We need to report locally to out counties CYFD office. Every county has one and it would help people who are calling to report abuse to not have to call a total of eight times per case an also not be on hold for hours. Our children are our future, are they not? Let us start acting like they are and that we cherish every little one and their life. Let's put a stop to ALL child abuse not just the one who get x amount of reports or more. We must protect our children, they are defenseless on their own, without us. Let us put a stop to our babies and children dying. If we do not protect them then who will? If we do not protect them; then is our future protected? What is the problem? Is it not the whole purpose to have a hotline to report abuse and save lives? Well, we must step it up a notch and save more lives. Obviously one per state is not working.159 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Jessica Arellano

DEMAND FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFENDERS REGISTRY FOR ALL STATES JUST AS WE HAVE SEX OFFENDERS REGI...I am a survivor of Domestic Violence. However my abuser continues 20 years later to repeat offend with at least 4 more convictions with different women who had no knowledge of his history. This information is protected by JDR court in VA but not in all states which should be the case everywhere. He and many others are protected from the public knowing of violence towards women, children and men. If it were PUBLIC and VIEWABLE information that someone has a history of spousal abuse or child abuse it could save a life. It would definitely make a huge difference in choosing this person as a mate, having a child with or allowing them to be in your life as a step parent. So much pain, injury and potential death could be prevented if there was a Registry in existence for Convicted Domestic Violence just was we all use and appreciate the National Sex Offenders Registry.866 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Mary Kay Stewart

STOP Toxic Rx Drug LUPRONI am a Legal Advocate and Consultant for victims of injustices and an author and Crusader since 1989 when I founded Women Fight Back helping victims fight back against serious injustices. Lupron can be disabling and deadly. There are 5,000 complaints filed with Congress and they've ignored the 12,000 victims without a cure, so it's extremely important that the labeling be addressed and serious studies be published with the hope of taking this toxic drug Lupron off the market.118 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Rose Colombo
