My girlfriend Colleen joined Corporation Doe as a Graphic Designer right out of college. At that time, they offered a competitive salary, profit-sharing, and an economical healthcare plan for all employees. Colleen began paying off her student loans and found a small apartment affordable enough for her to begin saving money for a home of her own. She met and married her husband Bill in 2004, and they bought their first home together shortly after the wedding. When the financial crisis of 2007 occurred, Corporation Doe asked the employees in Colleen's department to take a 5% pay cut in order to lower the number of necessary layoffs. Colleen and her co-workers agreed to the pay cut and there were no raises for regular employees over the next two year period. In 2010, merit increases were introduced to the company again but with a cap at 2%. However, employees have increasingly been responsible for bearing a larger part of the cost for health insurance each year with the end result being that Colleen (and her husband) now bring home substantially less ($500 month) now than they were making in 2007. They have lost their home to foreclosure and are now trying to decide whether to cancel their health insurance (opting for essentially a catastrophic plan for their family) or Bill quitting his job to work nights so they no longer have to pay for daycare for their daughter Maisy. Though educated and seemingly well-employed, they cannot afford healthcare and daycare both. Corporation Doe, however, is alive and well and enjoying profits unsurpassed in its 20-year history. The payout for executives and shareholders is a full 48% higher than it was just five years ago. We believe that it is time for Corporation Doe to reward loyal, hardworking employees like Colleen and Bill by giving a cost-of-living adjustment of xx% to all employees below the level of Vice President immediately, and by making a commitment to their employees futures by linking all future merit increases to either the rate of inflation, or the success of the company, or both.

The Koch brothers financial support to Tea Party Republicans have changed the Congress to a "road block party". Koch 's empire produces a wide spectrum of industrial and consumer products that we use every day, like Norton Tissue, ......Tridum filter, etc. When we all stop buying the Kock product, it will hurt their sales and profits where they need the most. They will think twice before opposing peoples' wishes.

Outsourced Visual Effects are displacing millions of American workers. Companies using foreign artists need to pay for the costs of displacing these U.S. workers, and these fees will also reduce the incentive for these companies to send these services out in the first place. Tariffs are applied to products because Union pressure forced the Government to apply tariffs for outsourced goods. The professions that are being displaced are not represented by unions, the government needs to get directly involved. Tariffs need to be applied to outsourced Visual Effects to provide income from the studios to help pay for the Government assistance that is being spent AS A DIRECT RESULT of their outsourcing. In accordance with some legal research already done in this area, the implementation of this tariff could use the "Countervailing Duty" (CVD) to accomplish this goal. I believe that any public servant who gives his/her life serving their country deserves important recognition in order to preserve his/her legacy for future generations.

"Dean" was a young, easily influenced resident of a halfway house for alcoholics and addicts where I volunteered for many years. Over 10 years that I knew him, I saw our criminal justice turn him into a hard, possibly lifelong criminal by treating his drug problems with increasingly long incarcerations, rather than the mental health and substance abuse treatment he needed. "Dean" was like a lot of people I met at that halfway house. They told me that the majority of prisoners had drug and alcohol problems -- and for many that's why they were locked up. Now,we're hearing the call for more jail cells in Los Angeles. But a better use of our taxes would be to improve community-based mental health and substance services. And that would give "Dean" and thousands like him a better chance at a useful, productive. Please make this issue a central plank in your 2014 election campaigns.

We have the right to know what we are eating so we can make wise, health conscious decisions about what we eat and put into our bodies.
