• What time is it?
With so many much more pressing issues, such as the state budget, decaying infrastructure, trasnportation, education, than changing time zones every few years, we strongly urge the legislature and governor to get on with serious business rather than waste taxpayer time and money on once again revisiting the question of whether Indiana, either in whole or in part, should be in the Eastern or Central Time zone.

  • REPEAL SOCIAL WORK LICENSING LAW
It's archaic to require university professors to require a License to teach. Louisiana Social Work Education Board of License REQUIRES IT. Lately the Governor of TX. repealed this law saying that "teaching is no practice.' In LA this social work licensing board works like Spanish Inquisition to insult and punish academics and perpetuates a culture of mediocrity and xenophobic exclusion

  • Mental Health Reform
My very intelligent daughter became psychotic in the 90s.She was diagnosed with Bi-Polar type 1 and had drug and alcohol addictions.. I was told that she would be in and out of mental institutions for the rest of her life. I said , "By God she will not." I thank God for the help she was able to receive without cost from the University of Pittsburgh.and a treatment center in another state for her addictions. It was a long hard battle.Only because of our determination and her will to get better she not only got her college degree from a highly regarded university but also got her masters degree. She presently is happily married with two children and a loving husband. She received the Excellence in Teaching award her first year teaching at a junior college. She is a wonderful mother and volunteer at school and in the community.

  • Restore voting rights to former felons.
After convicted felons have completed their sentence and been released, their return to society should be acknowledged by the immediate restoration of voting rights. Over 1 million felons were denied the right to vote in Florida in the last election. This is not the way to encourage positive and active participation in society.

  • Jobless Ex-Convict Needs Help
My petition is about equal opportunity. I am an ex-convict. I have made many mistakes in my life but am trying to change things around. I am far from perfect and I know that. I am trying to be a better person. It is difficult for me to find a job because of my criminal history. It is understandable but give a person a chance to prove they want to change. I have put in at minimum 7 applications a week since May 7, 2012. Sometimes up to 15 applications in a week. I just need help because I have a family to support now. I am not afraid to ask for help now. Help an ex-con by giving us the chance to prove we have changed! Most likely if we are applying for a job.... we want to change our lives!

  • Stop House Bill 122 "Woman's RightI to Know Act"
Section 5 of House Bill 122 is the "Ultrasound Requirement". Forcing women to be subjected to an unwanted and unnecessary ultrasound, causing undue financial hardship. This bill in its entirety assumes that the women seeking treatment is oblivious to what she is doing, or it is an impulsive act. Leave medical treatment choices to doctors and women.

  • K-9 vests for working dogs
A growing number of police departments state they do not have the funding to protect their K-9 officers with bullet/knife proof vests... It is vital for these working dogs to be offered the same protection as any officer of the law... There are non-profit organizations who are willing to do what the Police Departments do not... Considering purchasing and training a K-9 officer costs in the tens of thousands of dollars, a vest will cost each unit approximately 1500.00... This is a very little sum considering all of the lives saved by each and every K-9 officer...

  • keep Evergreen Gate/School Street turnstile unlocked during daylight hours
The Evergreen Gate/School Street turnstile provides residents of our neighborhoods with pedestrian access to the newly improved (Measure M) San Leandro High School sports complex, reducing traffic congestion on Bancroft Ave. A recent proposal before the School Board requests that the gate be permanently locked at all times, because some residents of that short cul-de-sac have voiced concern about issues such as parking enforcement and littering. We ask that the turnstile be kept OPEN to pedestrians during daylight hours, and that any parking or other issues be addressed separately. If needed, maintenance staff can easily lock and unlock the turnstile as part of their daily routines.
