When I started out as a teacher in the 1960's our State was #3 in the Nation and now we are 48th!! How did this happen? Our Legislature has fallen down on the job of making Education a priority. The lottery was EXTRA money NOT money to take away from our budget. Under the Senior Jerry Brown our advanced educational system was the best in the country so middle class children received an excellent education for little money and became the future including me in our state. My elderly parents, three good friends and I have recently experienced extremely poor customer service including hours of cell phone time on the phone in innumerable calls re: problems promised to be corrected, only to reoccur multiple times, incorrect documentation of prior conversations, extremely long wait times at local offices to pick up equipment, billings inconsistent with phone quotes, failures to follow up by phone or email, failure to show up for scheduled appointments, while charging excessive rates with no ala carte channel choices.

Ryan Smith has been an RA here at Georgia Gwinnett College for the 3 years now, an excellent one at that. He has NEVER even been written up, and he got fired over something simple. Although Ryan should have been more responsible, this is his first time ever getting in any kind of trouble at GGC. As residents here, we believe that Ryan should get another chance. He loved his job so much and he always gave it his all. He made it a point to have every student comfortable with coming to him for anything. We look up to Ryan and also look to him for guidance. We are petitioning this issue because we want Ryan rehired. No one deserves to lose their job over one mistake. Believe it or not, Ryan getting fired is affecting all of us. He needs to be rehired as soon as possible.

HB14 currently proposes bonding authority for 9 building projects, mostly within the University System. Eight of these projects are locally approved and considered desirable. One project in Missoula has drawn wide criticism, and according to a recent newspaper poll is opposed by a majority of residents. If approved, it would cause chaotic traffic problems, destroy an iconic open space, and create a Missoula College configuration with 4 widely separated units rather than a single campus.

Most people know February as Black history month, to shed light on the atrocities that the slaves were put through, however, most people are not even aware that the last Native American Assimilation School did not close down until the 1990's. Due to the assimilation schools, thousands of Native Americans lost their culture and language, and some moved off the reservations to protect their children from the abuses that were taking place in those schools--many people and children are unaware that they are Native American and do not have the oppertunity to learn about their culture; For Native American History month, people of all ages should be give the oppertunity to learn about any indigenous heritage and their relationship with the dominant culture whether it be the first nation tribes of America, to the indigenous people in China and Peru. Please sign this potition to give back the voice of the Earth's Indigenous people.

The banning of assault weapons and more regulation of the gun industry. I am affected every morning when I read the paper and another innocent child has died as a result of gun fire. I am affected every time I read that an assault weapon is being sold. I am affected when the NRA (the gun manufacturers' representative) passes the buck and says how tragic it is, but it is not responsible. It reminds me of the old cigarette CEOs.

Too many innocent people have died. Freedom without responsibility is nothing more than selfish indulgence. Responsible gun owners don't fear reasonable regulations.

When it comes to running Bridgeport's schools, Paul Vallas gets an F. Paul Vallas' brand of corporate school reform uses our schools to create profit, not educate. Vallas has laid off 50 teachers, cut supply budgets in half, and wants even steeper cuts, all while being paid more than $230,000 a year, and signing $13 million worth of no bid contracts with his friends and former colleagues. Vallas also spends much of his time consulting for other school districts and states, including an $18 million contract with the City of Indianapolis and a $1 million dollar contract with the Illinois state Department of Education. Paul Vallas has failed Bridgeport's schools. It is time for him to go.

There seem to be more vigilantism with the purchase of numerous guns for self-defense and current laws on self-defense are being distorted in the court room. People are shooting unarmed individuals off premise's, and even in the back and not going to jail for it. The reason for this, is the law is not being enforced during trials. It is a major problem, and will continue if something is not done.
