A student was denied admittance to Trident Technical College because he was undocumented. Trident stated that our state Immigration law disallowed his admittance, but Homeland Security has ruled these Dreamers are lawfully present and therefore our state law does not apply to these young people. It is important to clarify this legally to all our schools and allow these students in.

Law makers in Washington want to put marijuana retail stores in off the wall zoned areas as if they were selling a disease or prostitution. Marijuana should be treated as a commodity not some rare infectious disease. Make law makers respect marijuana smokers and their retail establishments.

Millions of healthy pets are turned in to shelters yearly. Shelters should be forced to adopt these healthy animals instead of killing them. Fines should be imposed on those who surrender there pets and put on a list to not allowed to adopt again. There is no reason why these helpless dogs and cats that are healthy should be put down. Euthanasia should only be used if the quality of life is poor.

Young and developing students are in danger of not being promoted based on narrow and often inappropriate testing. Veteran teachers with masters degrees, decades of experience, and years of successfully teaching reading are being labeled "unqualified" because they do not hold the new and "out of the blue" required reading endorsement. Districts that can not follow these new restrictive laws will lose funding even further than last year's devastating cuts. And yet, tax money continues to be funneled into charter schools which are not held to the same standards. The authors of these laws failed to create a committee of licensed and professional educators so that knowledgable discussion and discourse can be part of the decision making. One can only conclude that the intent is to be destructive to public education.
