  • Connecticut Needs Stronger Gun Control Laws
After the tragedy in Sandy Hook, the State of Connecticut needs to be a national leader and a beacon of hope by enacting strong and sensible gun control laws. It would be unforgivable to fail to act on this now.

  • An Insurance Mandate for Gun Owners
Why should gun owners not be required to have liability insurance for their weapons like car owners are for their cars? Save taxpayer dollars and let insurance companies pay for the background checks and keep track of their customers guns and charge for it in the premiums. The insurance should pay for damage regardless of who fires the gun, just like with cars. It would be a start and the premiums on assault rifles and big ammo clips could make them prohibitive to own. Lax gun laws are just more corporate welfare. Use an insurance mandate for gun owners as a way to fight corporate welfare with corporate welfare. For a whole new bunch of new customers, the insurance lobby would probably be willing to contribute to enough congressmen to get it passed as they did with the ACA. Since criminals are less likely to buy the insurance we could probably seize (for lack of proof-of-insurance) a lot of gangsters' guns. Since guns can last hundreds of years, there is no force removing them from circulation which results in their accumulation. This could be a force to decrease the number of weapons on the street. Seized, unclaimed weapons should be melted down.

  • I-Pass Reform
Since its inception, the Illinois I-Pass program has been run by a nameless 3rd party company that was awarded the contract by the Blagojevich administration. All of these years later, their I-Pass website still features the same crude out of date functionality that prevents I-Pass users from resolving simple issues without a phone call to their customer service center to wait on hold for extended periods, which costs Illinois taxpayers unnecessary funds. In addition, this company's system has also been prone to billing errors whereas they have charged many I-Pass user's credit cards in error. They also hold user's funds as "deposit" for years on end. It's time to bring the Illinois I-Pass system into the 21st Century by opening up the I-Pass contract to bids from other companies who can operate I-Pass more efficiently for less burden on Illinois taxpayers.

  • Fund Addiction Treatment
Add a 1% sales tax to tobacco & alcohol products. Earmark the revene to fund addiction treatment at facilities such as The Jefferson Alcohol & Drug Abuse Center (JADAC). The trend lately has been to fund facilities such as The Healing Place because its cheaper to do so, but they cannot provide a safe medically supervised detoxification, among other things. I work at JADAC & it saddens me to see this resource continually underfunded. The population we serve is poorly represented in the state legislature.

  • NO Smart Meters!
This new technology has documented safety and privacy rights issues and had NOT been proven 100% safe. They could also be easily hacked. Besides, by definition this is a wire tapping device and should be illegal...and to force it on customers is a bold, arrogant assumption that we will knowingly consent to such a disrespectful "business decision" on the part of electric company. The $20 "meter reading fee" is nothing but extortion for our safety, security and privacy.
