Gov. Branstad: Fund schools firstSchools can't plan or provide quality programs when they don't know what their budgets will be. By state law, the legislature is required to pass education funding within 30 days of convening, but Gov. Branstad and statehouse Republicans wants to break that promise to push through his education reform plan first. Let's not hold kids' education hostage to fast-track education "reform."42 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Cherie Miner

immigrationIts about unfair current immigration practices across the country. My daughter is married to a man from Mexico. They have two sons, my grandsons, who can not see their father because he must wait ten years before he can apply for entrance into this country. His sons need him, their financial situation needs him. In case your asking, does he have a criminal record, no he does not. He is just abiding his time. She had lived in Mexico with him but the state of affairs there made it impossible for her to remain there.9 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Douglas R. Everingham

Fair Appointments to the NC Utilities CommissionCurrently in North Carolina, state law does not restrict a public employee’s ability to leave state government and go to work for, or represent, a private entity. Many states have a "cooling off period" of 1-2 years before a public employee may go to work for a private interest they once regulated, but in NC that period is only 6 months, and it applies only to activities that qualify as lobbying. The Governor is tasked with making new appointments to the North Carolina Utilities Commission, which regulates the activities of privately owned utilities (e.g. phone, electricity, water/sewer). The North Carolina Utilities Commission, like other NC government commissions, has very few restrictions preventing "revolving door" politics. Conflicts of interest (or the appearance of conflicts of interest) can impact the integrity of the Commission to make fair decisions in the interest of the public. We are petitioning to ask that new appointees voluntarily abide by a two-year "cooling-off period" to indicate their commitment to unbiased decision-making and fairness in government.162 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Juli Williams

Sensibly ask that burlington VT. be removed from the list of potential bases by the USAF due to Vermonters concerns about environmental, economic, health, and safety impact from the F-35 fighter jets.21 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mary Provencher

Southern Maryland Regional Transportation Priority RevisionI am many citizens of Maryland, within the Tri-county area including Charles, St Marys and Calvert work in the District of Columbia or Baltimore or its suburbs. This change of priority change, e.g. light rail/bus system project will relieve commuter congestion, improve safety, help position the Route 301/Route 5, improve emergency evacuations, and reduce green house gas, thus reducing damage to our ozone, eg. global warming.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by BEVERLY E. Tax imported oil based on origin to pay for wars in that regionRecognizing that the major basis for military action around the world is to protect supplies of oil and other resources, the cost of that activity should be applied to the resources protected. This will provide a more accurate cost of oil when compared to alternatives such as solar and wind, and shift the tax burden away from the general public.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Don Fillebrown

Save the Jobs of JCCDC Head Start Early Head Start ProvidersMy daughter's pre school teacher has been terminated due to false allegations and JCCDC director feels no investigation should take place. She is a loving educational provider whom both my children love dearly, and under her care as if they are her own. A fair trial should be held.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sammeika Thomas

SUNY Speaks Up! Legislative Agenda of 2013Why should you sign this petition? To show your support for the legislative agenda of the SUNY Student Assembly which supports the funding and assistance SUNY needs for 2013. Right now the Governor has given a State of the State Address that did not make SUNY a priority. SUNY shares 2.2% with CUNY for the proposed budget for 2013. Isn't affording school hard enough? For housing, meal plans, fees, textbooks, and more? Yes! SUNY needs funding! Don't the students deserve to be treated as the future of the state? Yes! SUNY students are the future! Please sign in support! Thank you.403 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Carolyn Hunt

Change the name of "Negro Mountain"Unknown to most people, there is a mountain named "Negro Mountain" which straddles the Pennsylvania/Maryland border. Rep. Rosita Youngblood (D, Philadelphia) is introducing legislation to change the name. The mountain was named to honor Nemesis, a slave who died fighting alongside the British in the French and Indian War. Rep. Younblood wants to change the name of the mountain to reflect the man's heroism, not his skin color. Please ask your legislators and Gov. Corbett to change the name of the mountain, and bring Pennsylvania into the 21st century.1,646 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Michael Morrill
