To The Government Of Kentucky, The Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) has announced it will no longer be taking new applications for its program. Numerous families rely on this aid in order for them to continue working. Without it, they simply can't afford to pay full tuition costs for child care.

In the first presidential election cycle since the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision, an estimated $6 billion was spent, with more than $1 billion coming from non-party outside groups. By some accounts, approximately 31 percent of outside spending was funded by "secret" undisclosed donors. For our democracy to flourish, we must find new, meaningful ways for average citizens to have a stronger voice in the process, and citizens have a right and a need to know who is spending money to influence the outcome of our elections.

Assault weapons have no place in a civiized society. We need background checks retroactive to all who have bought assault weapons and certanily checks going forward. Who is buying these guns? What assaults do they have in mind? Ban the guns and the multi-shot ammuniition clips before more mass shootings occur.

Strongly support Statewide Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) and Case Management Services for every citizen with a serious mental health and/or substance abuse issue. These two steps along would go a long way to improving access to and effectiveness of MH and substance abuse services. It would also lives and money in the long run, not to mentiion prevention of terrible suffering of those affected.

I am the proud mother of a gay son, and it angers me when professional athletes make homophobic remarks. We have too many kids who are bullied because of their sexual orientation or because others perceive them to be gay. It's time to end homophobia now, and athletes need to lead on this issue, not to continue a tradition of making demeaning remarks about gays in the NFL or anywhere in our society.
