• Fund Isthmus Park
Citizens' groups and former state governors have successfully opposed high-rise buildings on the Olympia Isthmus, which block, or would block, spectacular views to and from Washington's majestic state capitol; which capitol overlooks southern Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, Capitol Lake, and the Deschutes River estuary. As a result of these efforts, the City of Olympia has designated the Isthmus as a park, and is seeking $2 million funding from the State Legislature to purchase key parcels to extend the park to the entire Isthmus.

  • Governor Scott and Legislature: Stop Florida Budget Incentives That Keep Us Under the Gun
Residents of Penney Retirement Community have been deeply saddened by the repeated incidents of gun violence that have targeted children. We recognize that proper mental health services are a necessary component of any proposed solution to stop shooters. We conducted a prayer vigil following the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, and we are anxious and determined to do everything we can with the help of like-minded citizens to prevent a similar act from occurring in Florida.

  • CT. "No Buy" List
I would like to give you my suggestion for reducing gun violence. I believe that people can have short term mental illness problems (1-3 years) that never reach the level of being declared legally mentally ill. Examples might include the initial onset of depression, mild schizophrenia, being withdrawn and unable to connect with people, and people going through a bitter divorce. I think we must develop a way of identifying those individuals who may be a danger to themselves and others and that should not have access to fire arms/ammunition during this period in their lives. Many times these people recover from these types mental illness and go on to lead normal lives. The following is my proposal: I would like a family member to be authorized to place another family member on a National/State "No Buy" list for both guns and ammunition. (This restriction would have to have a proper appeal process if a family member wanted their name removed from this list.) We need to create a process where concerned parents/family members can alert authorities when they have the slightest indication that another family member may not be stable and is making threatening comments. Many times family members are the first to know when another family member should not have access to fire arms/ammunition. Please consider allowing family members to place other family members on a "No Buy" List. Thank-you! Thomas H. Welch 101 Grove Street Clinton, CT. 06413-1906 (860) 669-7086

  • Minnesota Legislature: Boycott American Crystal Sugar Products
After rejecting a contract offer that the workers' union believed could jeopardize their jobs, workers at American Crystal sugar plants have been locked out since August 2011. Since then unemployment benefits have expired and the union has rejected the contract three more times. According to the Star Tribune, this is "one of the longest work stoppages in Minnesota history" (Blog 1/29/13).

  • Allow Principal Reductions on ALL underwater mortgages
I signed a petition encouraging him to take the bold step of replacing Edward DeMarco, acting head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, with someone who'll do the right thing for the economy and the 12 million families who are in danger of losing their home. Fannie should allow principal reductions on ALL homeowners who are underwater both current and delinquent. Why do the banks send you a letter decling a loan modification and then go on to offer for you to short sale it for market value to someone else instead of giving you a loan modification at market value? WE THE PEOPLE ask President Obama to replace Ed Demarco Ed DeMarco must go ! Please sign & forward: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/allow-principal-reductions-replace-ed-demarco.html

  • UTAH ATTORNEY INTEGRITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY LAW
Attorneys should be deemed to be under oath during court proceedings, and should be held accountable when they lie to the judge. There are no enforceable laws in Utah that demand attorney honesty. Because the rights to due process and an impartial and equitable court system are Constitutionally guaranteed, it is in the interest of all Utahns to make sure court decisions are not based on an attorney's lies

  • Gov. Branstad: Fund schools first
Schools can't plan or provide quality programs when they don't know what their budgets will be. By state law, the legislature is required to pass education funding within 30 days of convening, but Gov. Branstad and statehouse Republicans want to break that promise to push through the governor's education reform plan first. Let's not hold kids' education hostage to fast-track education "reform."
