  • annual mandatoryreview of HHA tenants in public housing system-household size & income eligibility
years ago i was an eligjble receipient of HHA; my 4 children and i were able to move into a 3 bedroom apartment and with assistance from the state and a part time job i paid $320.00 for our unit. our family decided to let their dad back into our family; so we reported HIS income, and relinquised financial assistance from the state; so with HIS income and my part time income our rent was raised to $730.00- still cheap; but we felt it unfair that other families in the same housing area;drove nice cars; wore nice clothes and had more people in their units then allowed-probably didnt report income changes. there should be an annual mandatory re-eligibilty for HHA. and add a back to work program for ALL adults tenants. today our family is renting in the private sector and struggling but paying monthly rent of $2500.00 for a 5bdrm 3 bath home

  • The Electoral College
In light of other states considering changing the way in which Electoral College votes are cast for the election of President, I understand that some legislators and Governor Snyder are actively pursuing such a change which would, essentially, rig the outcome of a Presidential election regardless of the will of the people. I urge this nonsense to stop and preserve the will of the people in electing our President.

  • Defuse the Tar Sands Time Bomb
The President may be tempted to give in on an issue that must be championed – protecting the climate from the exceptionally dirty fuels of the Canada Tar Sands. NASA’s James Hansen wrote, “If we were to fully exploit this new oil source, and continue to burn our conventional oil, gas and coal supplies, concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere eventually would reach levels higher than in the Pliocene era, … when sea level was at least 50 feet higher than it is now.…the disintegration of the ice sheets would accelerate out of control. Sea levels would rise and destroy coastal cities. Global temperatures would become intolerable.” The teachable moment of Hurricane Sandy must not be forgotten.

  • Governor Jerry Brown, save in-class learning in the UC, Cal State, and Community College systems.
I heard that Jerry Brown wants to save money by phasing out in class learning in the UC, Cal State, and California Community College systems, replacing it with online learning. I just got a Ph.D,, so I am trying to get a job as a professor, so I want jobs open for me. In addition, students who have to learn in an online only format cannot build the personal relationship that they need to with professors. While online learning can supplement in class learning, online learning should not replace in class learning.

  • Increase State funding of public mental health programs
Rick Perry and the Texas State Legislature don't seem to understand the chaos they caused in 2012 when they relieved Metrocare Services, the State of Texas public mental health program, of $156 million. I've seen services reduced, I've seen longer lines for patients in need of treatment and a reduction of quality care. Texas is now 51st in terms of public committment to public mental healthcare issues. Yes, Mississippi, the poorest state in the union, has better public mental health services than does Texas, and even Puerto Rico has better services than Texas, the third richest state in the union.

  • Freedom to purchase firearms without Licensed Gun Dealers requiring membership in the National Ri...
Certain licensed gun dealers in the United States of America require joining the National Rifle Association as a condition to buy a firearm. Certain licensed gun dealers, required by law to provide background checks to legally purchase a firearm, are using a citizens right to purchase and own a firearm granted by the Second Amendment to promote membership in the NRA or other organizations. The citizens of the United States view this as an encumbrance of a citizens right to legally own a firearm, without conditions or influence, granted to them by the Second Amendment. We view this as a violation of the Second Amendement and request Congress to pass a law that says that licensed gun dealers, required by law to perform background checks as a condition of owning a firearm, can not require patrons to join the NRA, or any other organization, as a condition to purchase a firearm.

  • Senior Dental Care
There are too many seniors in Texas walking around embarassing teeth or no teeth and lack of good dental care. They suffer from gum disease, digestive problems because they lack the ability to pay for it. When your teeth are bad, your health system goes down the tube.

  • Maryland Medical Malpractice Obstacles
Given the fact there are so many obstacles to discourage former patients from submitting a medical malpractice case in Maryland, I have had a great deal of trouble with my case this year. Why does the Maryland House, Senate and Governor make patients' situations as difficult as they do? Medical Doctors obviously do NOT want to sign a Certificate of Merit against another M.D. Given the fact you must have a signed Certificate of Merit to enter a case into the Maryland Health Care Dispute Resolution Office, many doctors guilty of malpractice are never found responsible for their distructive actions. A psychiatrist, Dr. Sanjeev Singhal, decided I was bipolar, even though I am not bipolar. After being labled as bipolar, no practioner would listen to my MS symptoms. My former Neurologist, Dr. Prafull Dave, would not write me an Rx to MRI my brain, that I requested, while I still had RRMS. My former Orthopeadic M.D. , Dr. Mark Chilton, even wrote in my medical records that the pain I was experiencing was because I was bipolar. Given the fact I knew something must be wrong with me, I kept trying to have a health care professional to properly diagnose my condition. After my Multiple Sclerosis was not diagnosed or treated for more than 3 years, my MS developed from Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis to Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and I am now permanently and totally disabled.
