This petition will let Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid know that a majority of Americans support the notion that if a Senator opposes a bill or a nomination, that they must stand on the Senate floor and voice their opposition. I have been personally affected by this issue because several bills introduced on the Senate floor (as well as several bills that could not be introduced due to the filibuster) have been blocked by Republican Senators via the filibuster without voicing their opposition to the bill on the Senate floor and engaging in the public debate that the Senate was supposed to facilitate. Such bills include: 1) Employee Free Choice Act; 2) Public Option in healthcare reform; 3) Paycheck Fairness Act; 4) Creating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act; 5) American Jobs Act (and the Teachers and First Responders Back to Work Act of 2011); 6) Repeal Big Oil Tax Subsidies Act; 7) DISCLOSE Act; 8) DREAM Act. This does not even include the numerous amount of judicial and federal appointments!

On Friday, January 11th, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett announced plans to sign a contract with a foreign company to privatize the state's lottery. The current lottery, ran by the State of Pennsylvania, gives its profits to programs to help seniors. But under the new plan, a British company would be in charge of the operation and the money it generates. Tell Governor Corbett not to sell out our seniors.

The New York Times, one of the most circulated and widely read news outlets, announced it is dismantling its environmental reporting desk and assigning the 7 reporters and 2 editors to other departments. With all the threats our environment faces, from global warming to dirty oil and gas drilling to the loss of our natural and treasured landscapes, now more than ever we need a strong media presence investigating and reporting on environmental issues. The Times claims this move will not impact its environmental coverage, but that's hard to believe. While these 7 reporters are currently dedicated to environmental issues, after this change takes place, they will be in other departments and writing about other issues. The best way to maintain excellent and timely environmental coverage is for the Times to keep the Environmental desk open and doing the same good work it has been for years.

Many public schools in Ohio have no way to prevent someone who may wish to do harm from entering the school buildings. Schools should at a minimum be required to have automatic locking/unlocking mechanisms on the entrance to the building. Where this is not logistically possible, an armed police officer should be stationed at the entrance.

We are poisoning our kids by purchasing almost any type of food with food coloring in it as they are adding harmful artificial colors in everything today. Please stop purchasing and ask FDA to band artificial food coloring in US as it is extremely harmful: Citrus Red 2, Red 3, Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2 and Green 3, — which include some of the most commonly used synthetic food dyes — have been identified as being, or being contaminated with, potential cancer-causing chemicals. Apply the technology of tvs with split screen access to all schools (public institutions) to be manned by trained personel ( either professional or volunteers) to keep instant view of ANY breech of an entrance-either window or door. W/o moving, an alert signal could be activated to all or police/fire depts. As we now know that seconds literally do count, it seems a cheap and effective way of cooling down would-be menace.

On the one month anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, the National Rifle Association launched a free mobile application for Apple's iPhone and iPad that allows users, even children, to shoot at targets with various types of guns, including assault weapons. Initially the app was recommended for users as young as 4. On January 15th, Apple responded to our concerns by raising the recommended age to 12 and adding warnings of graphic violence (http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/nra-shooting-game-longer-preschoolers-18223790). This is a step in the right direction, but the app itself is shameless, insensitive and counterproductive, whether played by a 4-year-old or a teenager. We ask Apple to rescind approval of it.

Every time I see a position open to apply for,I am directed straight to a Temp. agency....Has our job market been monopolized to me submitting my personal info. to a mediator service to pimp my skills!!! Why would I need a mediator if my skills are in fact what is required of the position I am applyig for? I recently worked for a company that had 3 different services hiring for an 90-day to 120 day project labeled possible temp. to perm. employment...If the add would've been advertised "Hiring Possible Temp. - Perm. employees based on proformance and skill set for 90-120 day project,please apply at", I would've been in line to apply as I'm sure many others would have...But lately there are no company interveiws for potential hire only employment pools to be serviced as employment coordinators seem fit(employment pimps), according to the commission your hard labor can bring into their agency(similar to Brothalized employment right? You speak with the head Misterist and explain what you are looking for and she matches those skills to someone of that desire and skill set,yet the money only switches hands person to misterist,laborer's left with tired back and compensation at bay...).And if you are working for a temp.service and don't know when your last day of work may suprise you...Then you need to do something about this issue in Illinois...We are the people,our votes count!!!! We make the labor force not the other way around...Let it be known that there is employment avail. out there and you and I are not going to allow Temp. agencies to pool and sale the jobs avail. to us or our skills...That's what the human services' department is for!!!! That's what 90 day probation period is for!!! Why am I working for someone else in a company that has positions avail.,they get my check,dock their percentage and then give me my little pennies to the dollar??? I think it's high time to make a stand...Limit the Temp.Agencies from Monopolization of Illinois...I know most of you are going to say,"What can we do?", Sign this petition and let your voice be heard,even if your son,brother,relative,next door neighbor is being sold in this manor, make a stand!!!
