I think it ridiculous that I must sign petitions if I don't want "so and so" removing mountaintops, drilling in the Arctic or if I want protection for a certain species or region... etc. This system is backwards! For example, Big Oil should be required to submit millions of signatures of people saying, "Go ahead- drill in Alaska, pollute waterways, destroy the polar bears' natural habitat."

Recently, Piers Morgan drew the wrath of the American gun lobby. During an interview of Larry Pratt, director of Gun Owners of America, Morgan told Mr. Pratt that he was "a dangerous man". Mr. Pratt had just explained to Piers Morgan that the solution to gun violence in America is more guns. Mr. Morgan He went further by informing Mr. Pratt: "You're a very stupid man, aren't you? "You have absolutely no coherent argument. You don't actually give a damn about the gun murder rate in America." Because he said these things, the gun lobby wants him deported. Because he is the only public person in the United States with the courage to stand up to the gun lobby, we think he should receive the Nation's highest Civilian Honor.

Since our country has experienced elections in which the victorious candidate has lost the popular vote and yet won the Electoral College, it seems that the voice of the majority of Americans is not heard. Growing up in the 1990s, I was an over-acheiver - same as hundreds of thousands of other Americans who worked hard to attain an advanced degree. I took out federal loans without batting an eyelash because there was no other way to pay for my public university education. Now, more than a decade after earning my BA, I am saddled with crushing student loan debt. As 30-somethings, we can stimulate the economy if our debt was eliminated or lessened. We could buy houses, have weddings, go on vacation, make investments, start businesses, and have children. Right now, we are drowning in a sea of endless payments that make those dreams hard to reach.
