• Social Security cuts in any deficit reduction package
Social Security cuts in any deficit reduction package. The cuts in Social Security are opposed by an overwhelming majority of SignOn.org members and would amount to a cut of more than 5 percent and more as the years go by. For many retirees this would mean critical cuts to benefits that cover medicine, food, and other daily necessities.

  • Do Not Steal My Retirement
I went to school for more than 20 years to earn a PhD and then worked for the US Government. During my Federal tenure, my ability to receive Social Security benefits from funds I had paid into the Social Security Fund before working for the Government were reduced by one-half to two-thirds. The original deal (promise) was, I pay in so that I receive a calculated amount when I reach retirement, based on my earnings. Further reductions in Social Security is a continuation of this cold, hard thievery by those in suits and furs (Congress). Stop, get your paws out of my purse. As a solution, first, Congress should take a big pay cut; Congress makes very little effort to learn how to get along and negotiate, like petulant, spoiled children with jam down their fronts. Let's also cut Congress' pension by two-thirds. This would be based on "they don't deserve it" - true, and "they don't need it" - most likely true. Lesson: Don't rob Social Security, a fund entrusted to the Government for those who worked and paid in. This is not your money to manipulate and steal. Congress, get extensive instruction on how to get along and also learn how to think of and thank others whose shoulders you stand on. I know you think you are all big deals; but really, you are lazy, puffed up, have poor memories and have forgotten for whom you work. And, perhaps you should exercise and go to church, on your own dime, not mine.

  • Allow/Force Medicare to negotiate drug prices
Like many seniors, I'm now in the "donut hole", meaning I pay full price for my medications. If Medicare used its huge purchasing power to negotiate lower drug costs (the VA pays 40% less for drugs), many seniors would escape this very expensive situation.

  • Start the belt tightening with congress
Congress always talks about too much spending and the deficit is too high. They spend the money and then tell us how we need to sacrifice. they never give up any of their salaries or colas. Everybody should feel the pinch. Especially congress.

  • Opposition to Cuts in Social Security Benefits
President Obama has made an offer to Republican John Boehner to cut Social Security benefits and leave in place some of the Bush tax cuts for the top 2%. The cuts in Social Security would amount to "a cut of more than 5 percent and more as the years go by." For many retirees this would mean critical cuts to benefits that cover medicine, food, and other daily necessities. We need to stop taking earned and promised benefits from our country's neediest in order to protect the top 2% of the wealthiest individuals from a most deserved tax increase.
