President Obama: Please posthumously award the Presidential Citizens Medal to Victoria Soto, who sacrificed her own life to save her students at the tragic Newtown, CT shooting. She made the ultimate sacrifice to save the lives of her young pupils.

My husband who is a disabled, retired U.S. Marine was wrongfully accused of stealing from a Walmart in our hometown of Conroe. He was hit in the back of the head with a metal object and wrongfully arrested.

A strong solution to the growing concern of our children's safety would be to hire retired police officers and retired and honorably discharged veterans with a sound mind would be a great way to safeguard our schools.

There are so many tragedies in the United States committed by people with recognizable mental health illnesses that may have been avoided if there was better access to mental health services. I know if I hadn't gotten the help I needed at a young age I would be far worse than I am now, and for all I know I could have snapped and taken someone out with me when I had the desire to die years ago. Currently I go to a state run clinic for my medication and psychiatric services but every year there are cuts and that means less doctors and less staff to help those who are truly in need of services, and I worry each year if I'm going to be able to continue getting treatment for my mental health illness. While we need gun control and other things to protect people better, it does no good if there are not better systems in place to help people who may need the help or a psychiatrist or a therapist or medication to help keep them sane and functioning members of society.

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit has been expired since December 31, 2011. Congress has failed to act on the extension of these credits. Now more than ever these credits need to be included in the Fiscal Cliff Deal being negotiated by the Whitehouse.

We need to have some form of control put on the sale of automatic or semi automatic weapons and ammo. We have the right to bear arms, but not the right to be able to kill scores of people with a single magazine. At the time of the Constitution the Founding Fathers could not have anticipated that. Sell single shot weapons only. Ban armor piercing bullets also.

The NRA spends untold sums of money to keep weapons of mass destruction, like the assault rifle used by Adam Lanza to kill twenty innocent children, on the streets. Now Republic politicians and others in the pocket of the NRA are belaboring their talking point that this is a mental health issue and has nothing to do with guns. I want to know how much money the NRA will donate to help remove the stigma of mental illness and provide funding for the professionals working on this issue

Key to resolving the so-called "fiscal cliff"/deficit crisis, Congress must cut wasteful Pentagon spending. It is out of control and defense contractor CEOs couldn’t be happier. Even though the Iraq War is over, and the drawdown in Afghanistan continues, contractor CEOs making up to $26,000,000 a year are lobbying their friends on Capitol Hill to protect their exorbitant corporate salaries and profits, all at the expense of middle class and military families. Enough is enough. CUT THE PENTAGON WASTE and strengthen, not cut, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other real and pressing needs!

Due to increasing and continuing gun violence in this country not just in the drug and crime worlds but in our everyday world of local communities, it is time to ban the automatic weapons that make such mahem and violence possible.
