The Second Amendment ties guns to national safety and defense. Own a gun? No problem! Join the National Guard, go through the training, background checks, psychological screenings and correct weapon handling procedures and help secure and defend your country domestically and abroad, if need be.

I am a mother of two young boys and here is my thought, after having given this a great deal of thought, IT IS UP TO US TO DO SOMETHING NOW. This country has changed, there was a time when the common good of our people was put first, when careful thought was given to what a child or teen was viewing or holding in their sweet, innocent hands. Now, the good of profit and greed are our guiding principles and have been for a long time- that's what has changed. No longer do people care about what a child might be playing with or seeing on television, much less that interviewing children who just went through the most horrific experience of their lives was going through- but hey, they needed their ratings, right? I grew up watching The Brady Bunch, Little House on the Prairie and The Waltons and Walter Cronkite. The news was informative and always had a good story to lift your heart. So, here are my promises and my pleas: The games, which we have almost none of anyway, they are gone and never to return. I will not spend one penny on violence! Video and game companies- FIX THIS! The news, if you continue to sensationalize violence....I'm done watching, not that I watch much as you lost me a long time ago! CNN, NBC,CBS, FOX, ABC - STOP THIS, NOW! Corporate America- CARE! Gun owners - consider turning them in or simply locking them away until your life is in danger - why else would use them? NRA, gun control wary folks- WAKE UP and DO SOMETHING. Congress - GET A BACKBONE, CHANGE THIS - PLEASE. President Obama - WE NEED YOU TO LEAD THE WAY, PLEASE! IT IS UP TO US TO DO SOMETHING NOW!

The enormous amount of US citizens that are legal owners of firearms do follow all of the federal and state laws and guidelines for owning firearms. There are less than 1 % of all crimes that are committed by legal gun owners. Do not punish the innocent law fallowing citizens for what the law breaking and criminals do.

The right to bear arms has become UNBEARABLE PAIN!!! There is no reason for citizens to possess automatic weapons. They need to be restricted and we need to stand up loud and clear. This should be timed for the day before or after Inauguration, when Washington is full of visitors and the President gets a clear message from the people that we are DONE!

In July of 2012, a video was posted online that led to worldwide riots with protests, violence, and even deaths. More than 50 people have died in the violence resulting from the trailer to a film. The protests echoed violence from cartoons several years earlier where violence once again resulted in deaths.

The entire nation weeps after another senseless tragedy due to gun violence occurred. As medical providers, we are mandated to report suspected child abuse, and in many states, spousal abuse. We should be mandated to report to a National Data Bank that an individual we deem mentally unstable or at risk, should not be allowed to purchase a gun. When gun shops consult the data base, they will see the person's name on the "Disallow Purchase" list and refrain from making the sale.

As a law abiding person in possession of a permit to carry a concealed weapon, I fear the outcome if Washington makes things any harder for those of us who want to do the right thing, just because of a few law breaking crazies

I just read the quote popularly attributed to Morgan Freeman regarding all these senseless shootings. Whoever said this -- Morgan Freeman or someone else -- may very well be on to something. How about if the media stops reporting the identity of these terrorists? No names, no photos, nothing. It would be a very interesting experiment. And, really, does any of us even care about knowing these disturbed individuals' names or seeing their photos? Would it leave a void in your life to NOT have that information? Does hearing their names or seeing their photos enrich your life in any way? I don't want any more innocent people -- especially children! -- terrorized, injured, and murdered at the hands of someone who will do anything to go down in infamy as a household name.

Gun control does not work. Children need loving home environments and school environments to teach them to be kind to one another, and that violence does not work. Stop the violent TV programs and video games to begin with. Guns don't kill people, people do, and if they did not have guns, they would use knives, clubs, their hands or whatever else they can find. An armed populace has prevented many crimes and the right to bear arms is essential in a free country.
