  • Tax bullets
Ammunition is a luxury that the nation can no longer afford. People are buying 5000 rounds of ammunition in one internet transaction. We tax sodas, cigarettes, liguor and eliminate transfats from our diets because of the harm these products do. None of them come near the harm caused by bullets. Ammunition should be taxed as a luxury item. There is nothing in the Constitution prohibiting the taxing of ammunition at punative levels. These taxes would help reduce the deficit in a time when both the federal and the state governments need help.

  • Arm Teachers NOW
On December 14, 2012, a gunman entered the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut and opened fire, killing what is currently being reported as a minimum of 27 people, 20 of whom were children. Completely innocent UNARMED victims. Columbine. Red Lake, Minnesota. Essex, Vermont. Lancaster, Ohio. Virginia Tech. To name a few. How many more innocents must die at the hands of murderers when our Second Amendment gives us the right to defend ourselves against such evil? Enough. It's time to stop the violence and allow teachers to arm themselves against such violence. This is the only proven, reliable way to ensure these senseless crimes no longer happen: DETER THEM, and if deterrence doesn't work - arming our educators gives them the chance to defend themselves.

  • Blame the person behind the trigger, NOT the gun
On Friday, December 14, 2012 a horrendous crime was committed once again by a misguided human being. And, once again, the GUN has been blamed for the crime. If some trained person within the school was armed, perhaps this could have ended before so many deaths. The time has come to place the blame on the individual or individuals for their deed and it is time to remove the evil act(s) committed from our history. Most time these acts are committed by people who see no future for themselves and choose the “easy way” to get their name(s) into our history books. It has become a competition to commit the most horrific crime and their name will go down in history forever immortalized for the dastardly deed. Instead, I believe we should strike the name(s) of individuals who commit these crimes from every record indicating their existence and never again speak their name(s). I speak of the cowardly act committed on April 19, 1995 but, when I do, I never speak the name of the evil person who committed it. STOP making them parts of our history and show them for what they are, evil cowards. Banish their lives and memories for all time and STOP blaming the instrument used in the crime.

  • Please Help Stop Mass Murder In America
Americans have the right to own police and military grade weapons and unlimited ammunition. The second amendment states that it is the"right of the people to keep and bear arms" but we must impose the question, what about the constitution's "unalienable rights"... which state that all citizens of our United States have the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness? All of these things were taken away from from the children at Sandy Hook Elementary school, as well as Columbine, Virginia Tech, Red Lake High, Thurston as well as countless others. Nearly 100,000 people per year are victims of gun violence in the United States. 20,000 of those victims are our children. They cannot vote. But they are citizens. It is our job to protect them above all else. Those same "unalienable rights" are theirs too. Let the deaths of the 20 precious children at Sandy Hook not be in vein. If we truly feel compassion for their families let us do something. Now is the time. We can make a difference.

  • Ban Sale/Possession of all Bullets and Guns
I am a social worker helping people whose loved ones were murdered or suicided by gunshot in Los Angeles, CA. First we need to outlaw the National Rifle Association so they won't be able to continue to brainwash and bribe politicians and the public. Next we need to federally outlaw sale and possession of all ammunition and firearms, even for hunting.

  • Bring back mental health facilities and help for the mentally ill.
I have worked in the mental health field and am also personally affected because I have seen family and friends try to get help at various times to no avail, or they have been in-patient for a short period and turned loose to fend for themselves because of short-staffing or no room. Something needs to be done because there are so many people in need of mental health services in New Mexico and all over the country.
