• Fighting Texas's War on Drunk and Drugged Driving
In 2009 Texas changed the mandatory blood draw laws on fatality accidents. Leaving it up to the discretion of the investigating officer to decide. On November 11, 2010 my daughter Samantha Jill Rogers 17, and her best friend Delaney Rhea Mancil 15 were killed in an auto accident by a driver on the wrong side of the road. Our lives are forever changed. Because of an inexperienced Texas Trooper no blood was drawn. For which he was reprimanded for his handling of the investigation. To this day this person has gone on to cause numerous more accidents while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Hit and run, failure to stop and render aide causing severe injury to the woman he hit at 94 miles an hour while under the influence. He was charged with 2 counts of criminally negligent homicide in my daughters case and was no billed twice. He was just reissued his drivers license in September of 2011. This man took the life of our daughters, graduation, college, weddings, grandchildren yet to come because of one change in the law. Samantha was going to be a flight nurse, a strait A student and talented athlete. Her friend Delaney chose a career to become a pediatric oncologist. She also a straight A student and due to graduate early. We are calling on our Texas Lawmakers to make mandatory blood draws without a warrant on all drivers involved in accidents causing serious injury or death. I am calling on our lawmakers to give the victims back their rights to justice. I do not believe their rights are being violated by giving blood. If they have nothing to hide they would not worry about it.

  • Walgreens Should Break Ties with Donald Trump
Donald Trump is initiating negative behavior and speech in regards to our country. If someone of his stature and following can Tweet "Start a Revolution and bring it to the White House" to millions of people at a time of national divide, that isn't someone we need to do business with. That is a statement that some people will take literally, and it will perpetuate violence. This isn't about Republican, Democrat, or Independent. This is strictly common sense. In this past election, we saw what our voices can accomplish, and we should continue to use them to bring about change.

  • Members of Congress who vote to cut Social Security and Medicare should not be allowed privileged...
Congressmen who vote on Social Security and Medicare cuts should not be allowed have privileged health insurance because they work for us. So if they cut our benefits, they should not be allowed to have special insurance and perks. They should live off of social security like their constituents do.

  • Decriminalize Marijuana regulate it like alcohol in the state of HAWAII
Saving money by not making arrests, taxing it as another income for out state. Medical evidence is out that it is not as harmful as we all thought. People are going to use this plant, regulate the sales and profit from this natural resource. Hawaii could export it to other legal states. Its all about choosing and freedom, educate the public let them choose to make it legal..

  • President Obama: Please Replace Timothy Geithner
Now that Obama is in his second term it is time for him to change course from shoring up the banks and Wall Street to listening to the Nobel Laureates. Many of us knew that the first mistake President Obama made was appointing Geithner and Summers. We have stayed faithful to him despite his vicissitudes. Now for the people's sake he should let Geithner, et al., go and appoint Joseph Stiglitz or Paul Krugman as his Secretary of the Treasury. We would also suggest Robert Reich, who's been brutally but truthfully critical of Obama's policies, but loyal to the people and the Democrats. It is time to emulate FDR and put the government to work for its citizens.

  • Science, Space & Technology Literacy Petition
As a Program Action Committee member for a local university for the past decade, I understand the value of education, and how it affects the lives of those who receive it, as well as others who benefit from increased knowledge of given subjects. With so many global environmental challenges as evidenced by recent, dramatic climate changes, along with those that come from new exploration, it is necessary that the scientists and technical experts on whom we rely for advice and solutions to problems as they arise are trained and informed at the highest level. If we truly are the greatest nation on Earth, we need to demonstrate our leadership to the world by establishing minimum standards of education and training in science, space and technology. I urge Congress to pass a law requiring literacy testing to ensure these experts will help our nation to craft policy that not only addresses these challenges, but helps to solve them for future generations.

  • No More "Party of No" Antics
During his first presidency President Obama was stonewalled by the House GOP majority. Getting his agenda fulfilled was stopped by record filibusters, spreading of misinformation, and loyalty to someone who was not elected by the American people (Grover Norquist). Congress has the lowest approval rate ever. America's credit rating dropped because of the actions of the GOP. We are asking you to work with the President. If you actually have to cut spending cut your salaries and only get paid for the days Congress is in session and only pay those who are in attendance.

  • Revise US Senate Rules
Republicans use holds and filibusters to stop legislation and nominations. Practically only at the start of a new session can a simple majority of senators vote to change senate rules. That time is coming in January -- we need to let senators know we want these delaying techniques changed or eliminated.
