Do away with the Electoral CollegeThe electoral college was necessary when our country was founded. Now, with the widespread availability of electronic communication, the people of the United States should be able to vote on the basis of one vote for each person. That way, the "battleground state" debaucle would go away.966 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Linda K Laughinghouse

Do not re-elect any Republican who refuses compromiseThat Republicans kept control of the House of Representatives and the ability to stall the Senate with countless filibusters may not be a problem in the next Congress if they are willing to discuss alternatives and to compromise. But, if they remain determined to continue the same course of "gridlock" as a means of not having to pass any bill not 100% to their liking, they need, finally, be dumped for Democrats or independents in the 2014 elections. President Obama was clearly given a mandate to resolve as many issues in his second term as he did in his first using compromise as a tool to address these issues. However, if Republicans continue their ideologic-based policy of no compromise, they need to be forced to accept the only wake-up call by the only means they seem to understand. The voice of massive defeat by vote of the American people. We can only hope.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Albert C. Moeller, Jr.

Amendment to the constitution requiring all items in a legislative act to be reasonably relatedCongress is gridlocked and even simple ideas cannot get through the legislative process. Our legislators frequently "poison" good bills with unrelated items to either get bad ideas through the process or to prevent good ideas from moving forward. Lets change the constitution so that all items in a single piece of legislation must be "reasonably related".1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Roger Bumgarner

Lets Get Rid of the outdated Electoral CollegeThe electoral college was established to deal with areas that were hard to get to. Now it is an anomaly. We have not elected a President, we have elected Electoral College representatives. The election for President should be based on a majority of the total vote, not on the Electoral College.15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John R McClenon

Make Emotional Distress a misdemeanorThis is to make cases of emotional distress liable to minor to severe criminal charges depending on each case brought before the court. This would also mean the inclusion of emotional distress in protection orders and family court. I am deeply concerned that courts are overlooking a silent and possibly fatal issue.18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kristy Fortney

Equality in opportunities in hiring displaced workers over age 55.There are many older experienced workers who have been displaced in the workplace due to attrition and funding cuts. There is an atmosphere in the job application process today that makes it suspect that these displaced workers are intentionally sifted out before even before the interview process. Reasons may be attributed to higher education requirements for equal positions or the unspoken discrimination of hiring the applicant on the basis of too many years in the workplace contibuting to the employers bias that the appllicant is not trainable. I am a worker with many transferable skills but have faced over two years of unemployment. I find the application process unfriendly and discriminating in many ways. This creates a feeling that many older workers are too old to hire and too young to retire forcing us to use up any savings and or retirement funds with imposed penalties in order to survive, leaving nothing for retirement years. This creates and forces the need for even longer years of employment beyond the retirement age creating financial instability and a bleak outlook for obtaining the needed employment.55 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kahryn Warren

Tax FairnessWages are taxed as ordinary income. Investment gains are taxed as capital gains. I assure you, having made both, that it takes more effort to make a dollar in wages than a dollar of capital gains. Capital gains should be taxed at the same rate as ordinary income. Investors will still put money in the stock market. (And only investors in startups and IPOs are really making the economy grow, the stock market has little to do with economic growth and jobs.) It's only fair.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Keith Logan
