• Tell Gov. Brown to make Democracy accessible to all Californians
The ballot initiative process is an important way Californians can improve their communities by making or changing state laws when the legislature is unable to do what is needed. But today, millions of California voters have no say in what gets on the ballot. Senate Bill 1233 would make initiative petitions available in multiple languages so that voters who speak a different language can have a voice. Our voter guides are already available in multiple languages; it is only fair that initiative petitions should be too. It would cost the state less than one penny per person to include these voters in the democratic process. In a state as diverse as California, providing initiative petitions in English-only means that voters who don’t read English well are left out of the democratic process, and that voters can be given misleading information about a petition and they have no way to verify the petition language. They could be tricked into signing something they don’t understand. This hurts all of us. Our ballot initiative system should work for all of us, not just some.

  • Protect the Moab Utah region watersheds and clean air
The BLM is slated to put up 51,693 acres a total of 28 parcels on the auction block for oil & gas development in the Moab region. One parcel in particular 042 sits on top of numerous water sheds connected to Moab, another is within a half mile of a remote section of the Dolores river & numerous parcels just 20 miles south of Moab next to the small town of La Sal. Special places with names like Bridger Jack Mesa, Flat Iron Mesa, Browns Hole, Black Ridge, Kane Springs, The Lisbon Gap, The Dolores Triangle could all be affected. Moab Utah is the home of Arches & Canyonlands National Park, Dead Horse State Park & millions of acres of public lands. A gem in the eyes of the world the Moab region is one of the most scenic places on the planet, visited by millions of people every year from all over the world. Yet here we are in the fight of our lives as the BLM is slated to put numerous parcels on the auction block for oil & gas development. There was hardly any notice and there is a feeling that it is being fast tracked for approval. These parcels are in direct view of the Moab Valley, Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park & beyond. If this development is approved Moab could lose its water supply because of contamination, lose its clean air from the off gassing from drilling and its beautiful view shed will be marked with oil platforms. Moab is in great jeopardy. Tim DeChristopher went to jail to protect this area because of this same threat and here Moab is once again under threat from oil & gas exploitation. I understand the need for oil and gas development, but I think we need to do this responsibly and not lease in areas that could adversely impact an entire towns water supply and clean air. A lot of water supplies & air have been contaminated across the U.S. due to fracking and natural gas exploration. The Blm has an oil & gas lease auction every year, this year they proposed over 80,000 acres but some were deferred, including 039 which was directly on Moab's watershed. Let's not create a situation that can't be undone. Moab needs not only its citizens to help save it but all out there in the world who love it. The comment period ends Friday October 19th at 4:30 pm. • Help Injured Veterans Get The Assistance They Deserve
While the U.S. defense budget continues to skyrocket, those who have served our country in the most important way, languish under mounting paper work. Whether their injuries are physical or mental, our veterans deserve the support of the country they defended. We have an able-bodied workforce that is waiting for the opportunity to prove their worth. Let's give the long-term unemployed the chance to help . . . Our servicewomen and men and themselves.

  • Campaign contribution limit
Corporate and super-pac campaign contributions are perverting what's left of our democracy. The Citizens United decision by the Supreme Court makes corporations equivalent to persons. If that is the case, can't we legally restrict each "citizen" to one vote? Let's limit all citizens to contributions of no more than $100 for any campaign. I can afford to put my $100 up against David Koch's $100 any day. This will level the playing field and will end the practice of the rich being more "people" than the rest of us.

  • Help Stop Corruption in Nigeria
Corruption in my country Nigeria is not just a political problem. The average youth in the street, school or at home vows to loot too if given the opportunity; it is now a culture war!

  • Open Letter to Archbishop of New York, Timothy Cardinal Dolan
This petition asks Catholic church leadership and people of all faiths to consider actions by the Church leadership that threaten the sustenance of the poor and attack religious freedom, especially of women. Archbishop Dolan can address these issues with other US Catholic officials. This campaign began June 8, 2012 with an e-mail by Rabbi Arthur Waskow, director of the Shalom Center, entitled Bishops Attack Religious Freedom; Vatican Attacks Nuns. Subsequent Shalom Reports built on related topics and can be viewed at www.theshalomcenter.org The full open letter is available at https://theshalomcenter.org/civicrm/petition/sign?sid=1&reset=1

  • Violence Against Women and Children Registry
I was a victim a a violent assault in 2011 and the court system allowed my attacker to walk free against my wishes. He has a history of assault against women but that information was not readily available to me. Had his complete criminal history been listed when I ran a background check on him, I would have NEVER entertained his acquaintance.

  • Double Dipping Government
In 2000 I was laid off for the 1st time and did not have to pay taxes on money that I already paid taxes on to collect; unfortunately, I was laid off again in 2010 & was asked to have money taken out of my unemployment check. Unfortunately, I am a one income household & receiving only 70% of my unemployment check there's no room left for taxes to be taken out and still pay rent, auto insurance, utilities, and personal bills; besides the unemployed should not have to pay additional taxes on money we earned already and had taxes taken out on along with paying into the unemployment insurance while working as well. This time around I had to pay $700.00 for taxes the 1st yr of unemployment (2010) and $1700.00 for the full yr. of not being employed in 2011. Not to get caught up in the daily interest & penalties that are held against you, I had to take out a personal loan to consolidate my debt & the IRS bill in order to not find myself in a financial bind. Why do we have to pay taxes on money we paid taxes for when we earn it and then turn around and pay taxes on the same money when it's time to collect it ? That's government double dipping that should not be; placing unnecessary financial burdens on individuals who already are tied up and unemployed!?!

  • Save the Field
In Cleveland, OH, there is a small field of land on our corner in the neighborhood of Old Brooklyn. It was once home to an elementary school that has long since been torn down, which was sad in and of itself. However, it has proven itself to be a happy accident in our neighborhood. For years this field has been utilized by the community as a place for leisurely retreat or active sport. Kids play football and soccer. Dad's throw a baseball with their sons, or play Frisbee, families have picnics and barbecues, play with their dogs, people sit out to sunbathe. Now this small beloved field is being turned into a urban farm. In the middle of a city where we have nowhere else to enjoy a little space? It doesn't make any sense. The community itself will not benefit from this garden. It has been a wonderful addition for us and is utilized so often. Please help us to save it and keep it so we can continue to enjoy it as a benefit to our community!
