  • Show me your tax returns
Mitt Romney is refusing to release his tax returns, which is fine, except if you're trying to become the president of the United States. In such cases, I think it is imperative that the people know exactly how you have conducted yourselves with respect to our tax code whether or not you find them to be fair. A great leader must first and foremost be willing to abide by the laws of the people whom he hopes to lead

  • Foreclosures getting nasty: Wife of US citizen deported
I am a volunteer with the Los Angeles Occupy Fights Foreclosures subcommittee of Occupy LA. We are trying to help the Cardenas Quinones family (husband, wife and children). This is yet another typical foreclosure case where the bank gave the homeowner hope that they would consider them for a loan modification; but, instead chose to foreclose on the home and sell it to an investor. The interesting story here is that she was arrested for trespassing, in her own home, even though the home was filled with her personal property. The unique thing about their case, which we all need to be concerned about, is that instead of the federal government coming to this family’s aid, they deported her on a technicality; notwithstanding the fact that her husband and two children are all US citizens. This family now risks being broken, unless we stand up and say no. The department of Homeland Security has temporarily allowed Blanca to return to the United States, for 90 days (till Sept 21, 2012); but, this time has run out and she needs an extension to prevent her family from being broken. We are requesting that her 90 day period be extended to two years until the US immigration laws can be amended so that this type of thing does not happen again. Please forward this petition link to all of your friends, and post it on your Facebook, Twitter, etc.., pages so that we can get more signers: http://signon.org/sign/foreclosures-getting Here are some links to more info if you want to read more about their case: 1) http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2012/03/blanca_cardenas_la_foreclosure_deported.php 2) http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2012/03/video_occupy_la_breaks_back_into_foreclosed_home_of_blanca_cardenas_deported_la_immigrant.php 3) http://www.insightoutnews.org/2012/03/11/community-rallies-in-support-of-blanca-cardenas-march-through-downtown-la-98003/ 4) http://occupylosangeles.org/?q=node/8649 5) http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2012/03/07/439755/california-deported-foreclosure/ 6) http://colorlines.com/archives/2012/03/la_mom_deported_after_protesting_foreclosure_of_former_home.html

  • States' Voter Suppression
In recent weeks and months, we are hearing more and more states are making it exceedingly difficult for registered voters to be permitted to vote in the November presidential election. Some states, such as Pennsylvania, have come right out and said the purpose was to ensure the election of Mitt Romney (although the stated reason for their actions was to prevent voter fraud.

  • President Obama and Governor Romney: Visit the Oak Creek Gurdawara in Wisconsin
On Sunday, August 5, an act of terror was perpetrated in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. This act of terror, of violence, and of hate was perpetrated not only against the Sikh-American community, but against America itself, and against all those Americans who are somehow perceived as “different,” whether based upon their race, their religion, their national origin, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic. Six individuals were killed in cold blood, and four others wounded. They had only come to pray–to worship in a place they felt safe. Many Americans, regardless of background, no longer feel safe. If such a heinous act could happen at the Oak Creek Gurdwara, could it not happen anywhere else?

  • Commissioner Mary Adams: Be accountable and speak with the people!
Community Education Task Force http://communityeducationtaskforce.rocus.org PO. Box 15604, Rochester, NY 14615 [email protected] Prior to leaving the Community Education Task Force's (CETF) Leadership Team, and prior to being sworn in as a member of the Rochester Board of Education in January 2012, Mary Adams had repeatedly expressed grave concern about the fact that Rochester City School District (RCSD) leaders are involved in an ongoing process of reconfiguring schools and programs, including school closings and development of new schools and programs–without telling parents and the broader community information about the overall future direction. Therefore parents and other community members have no idea about what the RCSD will look like overall, 10 or 15 years from now. We assume that this is still a concern for Commissioner Adams. After having served on the Rochester Board of Education for nearly eight months, we figured that Commissioner Adams probably has more insight and understanding than she previously had regarding this critical issue. Therefore CETF invited her to a public community meeting for the purpose of having a conversation with parents, grandparents, students, educators and other community members regarding the future overall direction of the RCSD. The idea was that the community could discuss with Commissioner Adams what the District will look like overall, 10 or 15 years from now, as well as her own vision regarding change and improvements within the RCSD. We had also informed her of our eagerness to hear about ideas regarding ways in which we may be able to assist and/or support her vision relative to much needed change and improvement within the RCSD. Commissioner Adams' response was that she is "not going to participate in any event that involves CETF." Considering that she ran for Office as part of CETF's Slate, and on CETF's Platform, and CETF was instrumental in helping to get her elected, we found her response to be shocking. We are asking for your support in helping us to hold Commissioner Mary Adams accountable by signing the following petition: We the undersigned Rochester City School District (RCSD) students, parents, grandparents, and other family members of RCSD students, educators, activists, community members, local, state, and federal taxpayers believe that Commissioner Mary Adams should demonstrate responsiveness and accountability by honoring the Community Education Task Force's reasonable request to attend a community meeting for the purpose of having a conversation with parents, grandparents, educators and other community members regarding the future, overall direction of the RCSD. We in the community deserve to learn from and discuss with Commissioner Adams what the District will look like overall, 10 or 15 years from now, as well as her own vision regarding change and improvements within the RCSD.
