While interest rates are at an all time low, student loan rates for college and graduate students are running from 6.8-7.90%, are non-dischargeable in bankruptcy, and due to recent changes by Congress, require interest to be paid by the students while in school. This heavy burden will force some students to leave school and cause others decades to repay, as tuition rates spiral while colleges and universities make millions. The interest rates need to be reduced and the debts made dischargeable

Who should govern, corporations or people? Who does govern? Citizens United, a recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, extended the doctrine that corporations are persons and are entitled to make unlimited and anonymous contributions to political campaigns. In its effect, this ruling is corrupting elections, dis-empowering voters, and destroying our democracy. Move To Amend Grand Rapids is urging the City to take steps toward amending the U.S. Constitution to firmly establish that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights and that money is not speech under the First Amendment. Let's amend!

Nebraska and other red states are dragging their feet on installing the CONSTITUTIONALLY APPROVED health case system, that would give AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE to thousands of uninsured citizens.

Citizens of Missouri know that access to quality health care is a human right, not a privilege. We know that many Missouri residents will not have access to quality and affordable health care without the Affordable Care Act. Following the Supreme Court decision to uphold the law, some governors have stated that they will not implement the portion of the Affordable Care Act that expands Medicaid to serve the neediest of our citizens. We are calling on Governor Jay Nixon and Attorney General Chris Koster to stand for all of our citizens by committing to fully implementing the Affordable Care Act in a timely manner.

Idaho just passed a rule to allow hunting of wolves every day of the year. There were about 1,000 wolves in the state. The hunt that ended Sunday took 379 wolves. That leaves less than 625 wolves. With the new rule the new season began Monday. Hunters can kill up to 5 wolves. This is NOT hunting it is extermination of a species not based on any science.

Most purchases are automatically put into a plastic bag that is then discarded and adds to the pollution problem. We are calling for a ban on free non-disposable, non-recyclable plastic bags. Retailers may provide bags for a charge that will go towards environment clean up of plastics.

Some states in the South are refusing to implement two common-sense provisions in the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare"). Georgia cannot join them, or it will place its citizens at a severe disadvantage and lose any status it still retains as the gateway to the New South. Unfortunately, Governor Nathan Deal and Attorney General Sam Olens are on record with misleading statements like: "Georgia must now work steadfastly on repealing this law and replacing it with reforms that help taxpayers," and falsely call the Act "neither affordable or accessible."

In 1986, Congress enacted the Air Carrier Access Act of 1986 to prohibit discrimination against passengers with disabilities by commercial airliners. However, recent federal court decisions have narrowly interpreted the statute to deny a private cause of action in federal district court. Congress clearly needs to include an EXPRESS private action in the ACAA to prohibit unjust, discriminatory treatment by air carriers.
