The cynical Republican effort nationwide to keep minorities and college students from voting must be exposed. Their rationale of combating voter fraud is unsupported by any evidence of significant voter fraud anywhere in the United States.

We need to stop the dismantling of the postal service under the guise of "economic reforms." The post office is not a money'making enterprize. It is a public service and ought to be jbranded as such, funded as such, and guaranteed in perpetuity as such.

Governor Paul LePage and his Republican allies in the Maine Legislature are on the verge of making deep cuts to critical services. Targeted are the Fund for a Healthy Maine, Drugs for the Elderly, and Head Start. The budget ax would nearly eliminate state funding for early childhood education. All this, while the Governor continues to cut taxes for those already prospering. We are calling on Maine Legislators to reject these attempts to dismantle important services that promote public health and offer help to at-risk children and seniors.

The one cause to the worlds problems is; the people who are paying money to, and voting for, criminals who are subverting governments world wide for their so called "New World Order". Electing the President of the United States is one of the most important events we participate in as free citizens of a democracy, and yet we have to "find time" to vote between job, parenting an other assorted responsibilities. If Election Day became a paid National Holiday, more citizens would have the opportunity to vote without the penalty of lost wages in the event of long election lines, bad weather, or employer intimidation. Our democracy will be more viable, because more citizens could participate, if Election Day were a paid National Holiday.

Bully dog breeds have been getting negative publicity because of attacks on people and other animals. No information has been gathered or information given regarding the type of unqualified and irresponsible individuals who, while deciding to own these dogs failed to properly train and supervise them. A dog of any breed is a true reflection of his owner regardless of size or breed. Make owners--not dogs--responsible for their dogs' behavior by placing the burden of punishment on the owner and making the punishment fit the crime!

Our country needs disposable income to move the economy forward. Interest rates were lowered to get business to create jobs, but that is not what is happening. Businesses are hording their profits. It's time to get those who have enough money to purchase Certificates of Deposits or Treasury Bills to accrue a 4 to 5 % interest rate. This will help the government as well since it will increase the amount of taxes collected. Most people will use the extra cash they receive to buy more products thereby increasing the need for businesses to hire more workers. There will be a slight increase in the cost of living, but the overall effect should be better for the economy.

Whales and dolphins have been beaching themselves in order to avoid ruptured eardrums caused by Navy sonar exploration of the ocean's floor. This exploration does not appear to be necessary when considering the cost of the suffering and loss of marine life.

Huppenthal has eliminated a successful Mexican American Studies in Tucson Unified School District, and is now calling for a ban on Mexican American Studies in AZ's public universities. The state should not be telling students what they cannot read and professors what they cannot teach. We provide asylum to students and professors in whose countries books, curriculum, and ideas are banned. Huppenthal's actions violate the most basic spirit of our country’s founding principles.

Take away the pension plan for Congresspersons and Senators and put them on the Social Security Plan. They pay into the plan the receive back the same amount as anyone else would based on their salary and amount of years in the system. Under the current plan both the Congresspersons and Senators plus their spouse receive benefits for the rest of their lives, even if they only served one term. Treat everyone the same.

Julio remains in jail due to only one fact: He is undocumented. Julio is a DREAM Act eligible student, an organizer at the Youth Justice Coalition, creates venues at community spaces where youth could express themselves through music, and mentors high school students over attending college. Currently he is held in jail, without being able to even face the court, because of his fear of deportation. Tell ICE to drop his hold and let him return to doing the work he does in his community.
