• Revoke corporate "personhood"
Many, many ills, including the infamous "Citizens United" ruling, have their source in the counter-intuitive and in fact odd idea that the rights accorded to citizens under the U.S. Constitution must also be extended to corporations. First introduced in an obscure lower court case, the supreme court eventually upheld this strange idea. We request that the State of Iowa revoke this status regarding corporations.

  • EEOC claim process is too slow
The unemployment rate for Blacks and Hispanics is almost double that of Whites. A Black and Hispanics are not let intelligent, less skilled or less motivated than whites. A big contributor to is racism. Companies are not fearful nor do they respect the EEOC. The EEOC is has a 3 year backlog. During this time, companies are getting away with Murder. They are intentionally pushing them into the civil court system to indefinitely delay them. I personally have been waiting 3 years. This area needs special attention from the Justice Department

  • Civil Unions for All
All governmental bodies in the United States should get out of the business of marriage. Only civil unions between one man and one woman, two women, or two men should be recognized. If the members of a civil union wish to be marriad, they find a church. All governmental benefits should be based on Civil Unions not marriages.

  • Don't Take Our Parking
The municipal lot on 900 block of Ellsworth street has been taken over by our city council , and being used for a private developer to make more houses . = less parking . They never made an environment impact report about how this would effect the people living around there or the businesses in the immediate area. they named the project the "Saint Maron's" to trick the neighbors into thinking it was for the local church.

  • Save the MBTA
My name is Doug. I will soon become a grandfather. My grand-daughter will be growing up in Springfield. I want her to be proud she lives in a state that values public transportation. I commute by bicycle year round in Boston and Cambridge and use the T to get to the airport and around Boston when the conditions are bad for cycling. My wife and I drive about 12,000 miles yearly, including visiting our daughter in Springfield, parents in Needham and Lexington, to Vermont and the Adirondacks. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is crucial to my family's quality of life. My son and daughter-in-law live in Cambridge, and because of the MBTA do not own a car. Boston is a vibrant place to live because of the T. The MBTA passed moderate fare increases and some service cuts for 2012, and expects dramatic fare increases and service cuts in future years without additional sources of funding. Thousands of public comments at MBTA meetings showed how cuts in service and fare increases would be a great hardship for many, including for my patients who rely on THE RIDE. Cuts in service and fare increases harm the economy, lower property values, clog the roads, and worsen greenhouse gas emissions. It has been 21 years since Massachusetts changed the gasoline tax, resulting in multi-billion dollar deficits in funding highway and public transportation infrastructure, and putting a strain on state funding for education and health care. A 25 cent increase would adequately fund the MBTA, address infrastructure needs, and begin to pay down the deficit The Massachusetts constitution allows gas tax revenue to fund mass transportation in addition to highways. There is no better way to maintain and improve highway and public transportation across the state than to raise the gas tax, not the fares. It is the right thing to do.

  • Repeal Defense Of Marriage Act
DOMA was put into place by Congress in 1996. The laws that are enforced by DOMA do not allow same sex couples to be legally married outside the seven states that support same sex marriage. It also doesnt allow their marriage to be recognized in other states. It also doesnt let joint taxes be filed and many other rights married couples have. By supporting the Respect for Marriage Act it will allow all marriages to be equal. All Americans deserve equality and supporting same sex marriage does not deminish anyone`s rights.

  • Trafficking Vicitims Protection Reauthorization Act 2011
Trafficking Victims Protection Act 2000 (TVPA) has been the foundation in the U.S. fighting modern day slavery. In September 2011 the bill expired due to congress not voting to reauthorize the bill. The Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) 2011, bill S. 1301 has been delayed in passing the senate due to political agendas. Politics shouldn't take precedence over human rights.
