• Give Samantha credit
When it came time for senior Samantha Culver to get an internship, she applied for a position with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, which she described as “an awesome opportunity.” According to Culver, she notified St. Michael’s internship office as soon as she was awarded the position. She said internship director Joanne LaBrake Muehlberger, told her it was OK. Not long after returning to school from winter break, Culver learned she would not be eligible for credit for the internship.

  • END THE BUSINESS OF PRISONS
This is about those who are being put in PRISON and left there to starve while due process is slow and innocent people sit in Jail for long periods of time. This is for those who sit in jail for non violent crimes and have to be punished beyond normal reason. This petition is to begin to create an awareness to those who do not realize that the prisons is becoming a big business and our people, the poor and middle class people are at risk of going to jail and being held there for long periods of time, only to lose their jobs, lose their repetitions, and worse their lives. we have to begin to put an end to the silent slavery that's going on in America, it is known that AMERICA IS HIGHEST OF ALL COUNTRIES THAT ARE CARTING PEOPLE TO JAIL BY BARRELS AND IT HAS TO END... WE HAVE TO BRING BACK FAIR PRACTICES, WE HAVE TO PUT AN END TO Public Defenders who are not defending anyone. We have to put an end to being unfairly treated, and to let everyone know that we also have a voice and that we have RIGHTS, HUMAN RIGHTS that were given to us, not by the GOVERNMENT but by the LAWS OF THE UNIVERSE, NATURE... WE have natural rights that are being violated each and every day but this BIG AMERICAN BUSINESS

  • What is really going on with Social Security?
Today (Feb.15) a very disturbing Headline on AOL. New Projections that Social Security may expire as early as 2012. Since we've paid into it, it's only fair to explain: Where did the 2.6 Trillon Dollars go? Also, why are they targeting Seniors to keep giving Tax Cuts to the 1%.

  • Eliminate Interest on Student Loans
Students and graduates are saddled with high interest rates on Stafford and Student Plus loans: up to 8..5%. Students will be in debt for years to come. Eliminating the interest would be an economic stimulus, increasing consumer spending as well as helping the housing market by freeing up money. If something isn't done the student loan situation could become the next economic crisis.

  • The Catholic Church does not speak for us-Keep Birth Control Free for Women
Males in Congress and the Senate as well as leaders of the Catholic Church are ignoring the facts about how Catholics are not against the birth control provision in the Healthcare Reform Law. This is not violating Relgious Freedom as The Catholic Church is attempting to claim. A Catholic woman is not going to be required to use birth control, however it does deny Catholic and non-Catholic women the right to have free birth control in their healthcare insurance policy.

  • HUD: Stop raising rents on active Leases.
Seniors and folks with Disabilities have had their rents increased even though some of us have active leases for one year. Some of us living in a Senior HUD covered facility have had their rents raised even though some of us have an active lease for one year. Most active leases in the Public markets do not allow rent increases while the lease is in effect. HUD does not follow this option. Some of our Senior and disabled residents have a difficult time with this raise. I'm asking for HUD to review this raise and stop rent increases while active leases are in effect.

  • Corporate and individual tax reform and balancing the budget
There should be an overhaul of the corporate and individual tax structures. I am proposing that individual tax reform should have three rates. 10% for people making $50,000 or less per year. 18% for people making $50,001-$250,000. And 25% for monies greater than 250,001. There should be zero deductions. There should be no corporate welfare. The rate of taxation should be 20% on all revenue. If a bill is presented giving a tax break to a Corporation the author or authors should be removed from Congress. Regarding balancing the budget – there should be a mandatory 8% reduction in each year until balanced with a continuing reduction until the national debt is paid off. If more monies are spent and the deficit continues revenues should be adjusted each year. And we are forced into another war – war bonds should be used to pay for that conflict.

  • Justice for Underwater Homeowners
Tell the Big Banks, enough is enough! Deutschbank refuses to participate in discussions to modify loans for families affected by the housing crisis in spite of the fact they've been paid at least 3 times for every underwater loan they own. Dawn Swidorski and her husband Tony are just one of millions of families who now owe more on their home than its worth. The Big Banks have drained trillions of dollars of wealth from hard-working Americans like Dawn and her husband. At the same time they've rigged the game and refuse to consider a home loan modification until they are behind on their housepayment. It's just a game they play to steal hard working people's house and profit AGAIN. Dawn and Tony have done the right thing. They are current on their home loan, but it's set to adjust to a rate that is unaffordable. Please help them by demanding that Deutschbank give Dawn and Tony the simple loan modification they need in order to keep their home.
