• Arizona State: Stop censoring change.org!
Arizona State student Eric Haywood started a petition on Change.org protesting the college's high tuition fees. In response, Arizona State has now blocked access to all of Change.org! Censoring students Internet access is outrageous -- especially when it's blocking something of key public interest. A huge public outcry will force Arizona State to reverse their policy and let people visit Change.org again. Sources: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/josh-levy/arizona-state-censors-cha_b_1253155.html

  • No more Wall Street waivers. Ever.
The SEC routinely grants waivers to large companies Wall Street companies who break laws and regulations. 1 Regular people don't get waivers if they break a law. 2 Unequal enforcement of the law is not a free-market, it's crony capitalism. The SEC should not have the authority to issue such waivers, they should just enforce the laws and regulations.

  • Stop Voter Suppression in Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Senate is considering legislation (HB 934) that would create obstacles for citizens trying to exercise their right to vote, making it impossible for some to make their voices heard. In June, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed House Bill 934 (HB 934) almost entirely along party lines, sending it to the Senate for action. The bill requires valid state or federal photo ID from all Pennsylvanians at all elections before they are permitted to vote. HB 934 is an expensive voter suppression bill that would make it harder for older citizens, young adults, people with disabilities, racial minorities, and lower-income people to vote. This petition is sponsored by the Protect Our Vote Coalition, Advancement Project and PA Voice

  • Restore Federally Subsidized Loans to Graduate Students
Last fall during the debt crisis, Congress decided to eliminate Federally Subsidized Loans to Graduate Students. Graduate education gives American workers the edge they need to compete in the global marketplace. Ask Congress to make an investment in the future of our country by restoring these necessary loans.

  • Women against War
Every war ever fought has been instigated by men. Women have stood passively by and permitted this throughout all of history. We have stood by and let our sons and daughters fight and die for issues that could have been resolved peaceably through diplomacy. Now, men in Israel and Iran are provoking a war that may end all wars. Women of the world, take control and petition your leaders to prevent this. Stop the senseless and stupid violence and petition your leaders for diplomatic solutions to differences. The custom of sending our children to kill other children to prove the points of the older men who run countries has to stop. We must advance beyond this barbaric custom and advance to civilized discussion and diplomatic resolution of differences.

  • Repeal Sections 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA
On January 31, Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act into law. Sections 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA is very dangerous to our freedoms. It allows for the indefinite detention (without trial) of American citizens. It also allows for the military to turn turn America into its battleground. Who can be detained? According to the NDAA, anyone who has"committed a belligerent act [against the United States] or has directly supported such hostilities in aid of such enemy forces.” This language is so vague that it can include those American who are just exercising their constitutional rights of free speech and right of lawful assembly. This is a blatant violation of our Bill of Rights. But we can stop it. We must urge Congress to repeal sections 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA. But we must hurry. The law goes into effect on March 3.

  • Say "No" to Enemy Expatriation Act
The Enemy Expatriation Act (HR3166 and S1698) is currently winding its way through Congress. This bill is very dangerous. It adds "engaging in or supporting hostilities against the United States" to the list of acts for which United States nationals would lose their nationality (without trial). This would mean that you could be picked up and indefinitely detained simply by disagreeing with the government. Our freedom of speech will be totally be gone. We must stop this bill in its tracks.

  • Protection from Trapping in White Bear, MN
This municipal Petition supplements the statewide Petition "Safe Public Lands" (http://signon.org/sign/safe-public-lands). The practical and scientific literature describes how to effectively trap target species (e.g. raccoons) without endangering people or domestic animals (e.g. without killing people's dogs). This Petition simply asks for trapping regulations that are based on those proven methods--already in use by professionals and other responsible trappers. Although this petition is formally addressed to White Bear Township, it is also appropriate for other suburban communities. Please feel free to add your signature, even if you're a resident of another community; and please feel free to publicize it in your community. This Petition has been honored by the City of White Bear Lake, MN, which in January 2013 followed the lead of Shoreview, MN and other model communities by providing the protection that's requested here, while still allowing for necessary, responsible wildlife management. Unfortunately, this Petition has been rejected by the Board of White Bear Township, MN. On 9/5/2012, the Board adopted an Ordinance that had not even been checked for errors or omissions. It condoned trapping by any legal method anywhere in the Township, regardless of its inappropriateness for certain locations. For example, it allowed lethal trapping even in a residential yard adjacent to an area where people walk their dogs, or where children play. On 5/3/2013, the Board continued to express its satisfaction with the 9/5/2012 Ordinance, even rejecting a proposal by staff to fix its errors and omissions (although staff had taken care to avoid all of the issues that the Board had already rejected: no regulations on private property, and no limitations on recreational trapping).
