NC must continue to fund preK education for all children. Leave the preK education in the public schools and do NOT lower the assistance level to a family of 4 earning $22,000. The moral, financial and physical health of NC depends on a strong education system for ALL children.

.Oklahoma ranks 49th nationally in per student spending and below average in student literacy. With a surplus in the state budget going to the rainy day fund and to pay for her income tax cuts, where is education ranking on her list of priorities? We're calling on Governor Fallin to stop cutting education spending so she can boost her friends in the oil and natural gas industries that are not having any problems accumulating wealth.

Governor Chris Christie continues to claim that he has made major economic improvements in the State of New Jersey. If this is true, where are the new jobs? Why is he laying off teachers? Why is there still a freeze in hiring for state positions? Social Services clearly needs more, not less, employees, and funding. The delays in assisting the unemployed with vital social services is inexcusable, as is the amount of funds available.

Gas prices have completely gotten out of control and everyone I know is infuriated by it but it doesn't seem like anyone is making a move to change it. It's about time we get our voices heard. I live in Los Angeles, CA and I paid $4.45 a gallon for regular unleaded gas this week. My husband and I share a car and he takes mass transit often and it is still squeezing us financially. Much has been said about the Indiana legislature's recent passage of a so-called right to work law. This petition takes issue with the name of the legislation. It is malfeasant to extend that right exclusively to anti-union corporations but not, as all faith traditions require, to unemployed human beings. Please support this new citizens' right to work legislation.

Syringe access and exchange programs became a financial priority of the SF Department of Public Health in the 90's as a way of reducing and controlling the spread of HepC and HIV. These programs are mainly run by volunteers, who distribute clean needles, safer sex tools, and other safe drug usage items (ie caps for crack pipes, sterile water and tourniquets, to name a few) to those who want them. Over the years, studies show that the epidemic of new outbreaks has come to a very low and steady number, which can be directly attributed to the success of these programs and the awareness they share. Syringe access programs can be found scattered nationwide, however, they are very few and far between. In 2009, after decades of fighting for federal funds, a ban was lifted, granting limited funding to programs nationwide. This was a huge success, and opened the doors for more safe access sites where they were needed. Unfortunately, in December of last year (2011), the ban was put back into effect with the government's fear of condoning drug use.
