• Support the Columbine mini-series on Lifetime
In 1999, two teenagers rampaged their school and caused a deadly school shooting, killing 13 before themselves. Thirteen years later, Lifetime is now in talks of making a mini-series based on this event, and possibly exploring the two teens' lives prior, but many people are against it. I believe it should be made, for our generation's sake.

  • Save our public schools teachers
For the past few years, there has been a great push by politicians, mostly Republicans but also Democrats, to "reform" the education system. Many people that have never stood in front of a class or even been part of a school system, decided that the problem of our schools are the teachers. In New Jersey, governor Chris Christie have joined hands with others, who don't really have the interest of the students in mind, in an attempt to privatize public schools and destroy teachers and their union, the NJEA. Christie refuses to raise taxes on the rich people of New Jersey, but has no problem of requiring teachers to pay more for their health insurance and pension. He is also attempting to change the evaluation of teachers to include results of test scores and is trying to eliminate tenure. Teachers around the world are usually held in high esteem. It used to be like this in The U.S. and in New Jersey. Today, many experience teachers, administrators and superintendents of schools are retiring, living a big gap in education. Please help change the trend, so the education in the U.S. and especially in New Jersey would not be compromised.

  • California 3rd Strike Amendment
Originally 3rd Strike advocates were intending to lock away seriously violent predators/murderers for 25 years - life. Unfortunately now we have many non-threatening aged prisoners who were sentenced to life (essentially) on a non-violent/minor offense because in their youth (before 3rd Strike sentencing statutes) they had committed felonies such as residential burglary or possession of a deadly weapon. Now our state is supporting these aged prisoners' in their increasing health care costs, while the prisoners themselves may not be incarcerated for a serious felony.

  • Eric Cantor Wipe that Smirk off your Face
Eric Cantor, perhaps the most self-serving representative in the house (and that's saying something) continues to smirk as he continually places his own priortities before the country's. We can't expect to someone like him to change but getting rid of the smirk would make the undersigned feel a tad less disgusted.

  • Save $, US Postal Service, and Increase Voter Participation
The state of Oregon has been voting by mail for over a decade. Participation is about 80% compared with turnouts as low as 10 - 15% in regular elections in other states. The cost savings to communities is around 35% when voting by mail. The huge volume of mail from all elections in all states by adopting Vote By Mail would offset the loss of business to the Post Office by electronic mail.

  • Hey CNN: Fire Dana Loesch!
Dana Loesch compared a forced trans-vaginal procedure to sex recently. This is not just an inflammatory statement about women with regard to sexual practices, it reinforces the underlying subtext that women subject THEMSELVES to forcible rape. In other words, it is blaming the victim. Dana Loesch should be FIRED.

  • Honor the founder of Hip Hop: DJ Kool Herc
Kool Herc founded the international phenomenon called hip hop. It was created to foster peace, respect, and unity in his neighborhood. The culture was to serve as an alternative to gang life that plagued his community, the South Bronx. Hip hop has been misused by corporate greed to sell products, promote violence, and self-worthlessness. We are here to take back the name hip hop, reinstate its original purpose, and honor its founder, Kool Herc.

  • Solar Energy at home
I believe our best source of energy should come from the sun but to use the deserts is all wrong. Using the deserts destroys the open space and homes for the wildlife, not only the sites but the corridors serving them. This system has to bring the energy many miles from the desert to the cities that use it. The logical way is to create the power in the city on the roof tops of private and public buildings, the shortest distance. A good example is the Los Angeles county building in North Hollywood on Van Nuys Blvd. which has been there for years. There is no need to destroy our dwindling open space.

  • The True Congressional Oath
A large number of Congressional Republicans have signed an oath not to ever raise taxes for any reason. This oath has hamstrung our Congress from effectively dealing with the financial crisis that our nation faces -- there are a number of very reasonable revenue raising ideas that go nowhere because of this pledge. No matter what proposals come from Democrats, they are immediately rejected because Republicans can only support budget cuts, which is the primary reason that our Congress remains deadlocked on just about every issue.

  • Gov Martinez: SIGN 9!
This bill (SB 9) will institute combined reporting and require some out-of-state corporations to pay tax on their New Mexico income. The bill that passed is a greatly watered down version, thanks to pressure from lobbyists, applying the combined reporting requirement only to “big box” stores such as Wal-Mart. Gov. Susana Martinez has said she will veto it because it "raises taxes".
