The Paid Sick Time Act, which would guarantee that workers in New York City can earn up to 5 paid sick days and would allow all workers to use their days when a child is ill, has the support of 83% of New Yorkers and a veto-proof majority of votes on the City Council. But New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has blocked the bill. Tell Christine Quinn to protect the health of workers and children and bring the bill to a vote! Across the world, 145 nations guarantee workers paid sick time. Yet, 44 million Americans—and more than one million in New York City alone—lack a single paid sick day. Paid Sick Days would reduce health care costs, reduce the spread of contagion, protect people’s jobs and financial security, and boost businesses’ productivity. After San Francisco enacted a paid sick time law in 2007, job growth was stronger there than in surrounding counties that lacked the law, proving that paid sick time does not prevent hiring and is not a burdensome cost. House Joint Resolution 78 proposes a Constitutional Amendment overruling the Citizens United decision. The Amendment would allow Congress to limit corporate spending on political campaigns. This is essential to restore citizen control of our democracy. This petition asks Congress to support the Resolution and start the amendment process.

According to Dr. Pepper, only women drink diet. That's the idea behind Dr Pepper Ten, a 10-calorie soda Dr. Pepper Snapple Group is releasing under the slogan, "It's not for women." It was developed after research found that men are reluctant to purchase diet beverages that aren't perceived as "manly" enough. Send Dr. Pepper the message that pigeonholing men and women into gender roles isn't excusable, even as an advertising tool. Tell them to take this product off the market immediately.

I'm calling on President Barack Obama to come to Wall Street and get a first-hand look at Zuccotti Park and the people that are there making a difference. No strings- say something, do something, or don't. Just a visit, an appearance. The City of Salem is proposing to build a 1.5-megawatt wind turbine at Winter Island. The turbine would produce enough energy to power approximately 300 homes, creating a revenue stream for the city and helping to move our state away from reliance on fossil fuels, the major cause of global climate change. Over the course of its 30-year lifetime, the turbine would reduce our city’s carbon emissions by 80,000 tons, the equivalent of taking about 13,000 cars off the road. The City conducted a thorough study of all city-owned lands to determine the best site for a wind turbine. After analyzing the best wind locations with an outside consultant and considering a range of factors–including proximity to residences, access to the power grid, topography, and other impacts–it was determined that the best location for the project was Winter Island.

We cannot wait any longer...our people need jobs now!!! The longer we wait, the more people will be unemployed. It is time to take our country back from unconcerned Senate and House Representatives who don't care. Our people need to get back to work. There are millions of families who are suffering. Both Democrats and Republicans need to pass this important piece of legislation. We have the power to accomplish a great jobs reform bill. We also need to get all those jobs that were sent over seas back to the US. We must take care of our own first, here in the United States not abroad!! East Coast Refineries and American jobs are under attack by the influx of imported refined fuels. This is a major National Security issue along with being a travesty to the Middle Class during our current economic crisis. Our government should import tarriff on refined imported fuel products (gasoline, home heating oil, low sulphur diesel, jet fuel, etc) is needed is needed to create a "fair trade" instead of "free trade".

Oil is detrimental to the environment from pollution problems to disastrous oil spills; despite the five biggest oil companies making astounding profits of over $67 billion in just the first half of 2011, oil and gas companies continue to receive $15.6 billion each year in federal tax breaks. We want Senator Murray to encourage the debt-reduction Super Committee to stop these wasteful subsidies to Big Oil.

It is about providing more money for childcare so that the staff can mainitain their jobs. So that centers can maintain qualified workers
