Many historically black colleges and universities have strict rules and regulations regarding when a student can have visitors over and how long each guest can stay. At Clark Atlanta, students are allowed to have up to 2 guests in their room for a duration of 5 hours. We, the students, believe that visitation hours should be extended at our institution because other students have this opportunity at predominantly white institutions and visitation hours do not affect our academics.

Donald Trump is bypassing Congress and declaring a “national emergency” to build his border wall. This is a gut check moment for what kind of country we want to be. Congress must put the good of the country before the good of the party and check this power grab by President Trump -- which it has the power to do. In fact, the National Emergencies Act -- one of the reforms we helped pass after Watergate -- safeguards against precisely this sort of authoritarian abuse of power. Congress needs to check this president’s abuses -- and if they aren’t willing to, members of Congress and others who stand to be hurt by Trump’s actions should turn to the courts to stop him. We need to stand united against this President’s repeated attacks on the values we share as Americans. Tell Congress to decisively reject Trump’s abuse of power.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that Donald Trump will declare a national emergency on Friday to push his racist, wasteful, unpopular wall. This wall is a clear power grab by Trump and is symbolic of the larger attack on immigrant communities around the country. Congress can override Trump's power grab, and it's up to us to make them. That's why we must make our voices heard and demand that Congress check Trump's actions.

Mitch McConnell is single-handedly trying to kill democracy reform. We need your voice to stop him. The For the People Act would majorly expand voting rights, put ordinary voters ahead of big money donors, end gerrymandering, and hold elected officials -- including the President and the Vice President -- to the highest ethical standards. BUT… Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is mounting a one-man blockade against it -- and says the Senate won’t even give the For the People Act a vote. He doesn’t care that our democracy has been corrupted by big money donors and vote-suppressing politicians. He doesn’t care that these nonpartisan solutions are already working in states across the country. And he doesn’t care that Americans overwhelmingly demanded change with their votes last year. If we want to move real democracy reform, we need to break through Mitch McConnell’s anti-democracy extremism. We need millions of Americans -- and elected officials in both parties -- to publicly condemn his attacks on our values and demand a vote on the For the People Act. We want a government that works for all of us -- that gives us all a say and puts our needs ahead of special interests. This is really unbelievable. Thirteen states--including Ohio--allow municipalities to use drilling and fracking wastewater brine from conventional, non-shale gas wells on roads to keep down dust or melt snow. Spreading wastewater from non-shale oil and gas drilling and fracking on unpaved roads is a cheap way for municipalities, many of which are smaller townships and rural communities, to suppress dust and melt snow. However, a 2018 Penn State University study showed that the wastewater contains salts, radioactivity and organic contaminants “often many times higher than drinking water standards.” The toxicity of the wastewater is a concern because rain can wash heavy metals, oils and radium, a carcinogen, from roads into nearby water sources, the study said. In fact, a leaked Ohio Department of Natural Resources report in 2017 found high levels of radioactivity in the product currently being applied to our Ohio roads. After 2017 report became public, members of the Ohio state legislature rejected the findings and instead introduced a law in 2018 that would ease regulations on fracking brine wastewater, treating it as a "commodity" rather than toxic waste derived from oil- and gas-drilling operations. Now is the time to act! The Ohio 2019 State Legislative Session is just kicking off and we're saying enough is enough!
