Tell Trump not to use disaster relief funds to pay for the border wallTrump keeps criticizing California's forest management and blames them for wildfires. But forest management is a federal responsibility, and the funds for that keep getting cut. Then the state is forced to use remaining funds to fight the wildfires instead. It's a cycle that feeds on itself and makes it almost impossible for California to do adequate forest management. Now President Trump is threatening to cut FEMA funding, too. California citizens who lost everything in the wildfires are already dealing with unbearable stress. They don't need Trump to add to that by threatening the loss of FEMA funding that pays not just for local infrastructure repair, but for home repair, emergency housing, and groceries. Furthermore, there are reports that Trump could take money from Puerto Rico recovery efforts—after he's spread conspiracy theories to diminish the devastating, fatal impact of hurricanes to the island—to get even more money for a border wall should he declare a national emergency. In places like Puerto Rico, California, North Carolina, Florida, and Texas, people who have already been through unthinkable loss don't need the president of the United States to add to their burdens. He needs to stop abusing his power and American citizens to fuel his ego.3,838 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Susan Madrak

Honorable Mike Pompeo, please help Danni Askini come home!My goal is to help Danni Askini to safely return to the US, without being detained in a men's prison. She is a US citizen, and has supplied proof to the US State Department, who for whatever reason does not accept her proof, all because she transitioned at a young age.291 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Myralee Hayes

Who should pay for the US-Mexico Border Wall? The U.S. government is being threatened with a complete shut down by the Trump administration in order to strong-arm funding for the US-Mexico Border Wall. There is no end in sight for what is essentially a manufactured crisis. If Mr. Trump wants HIS wall SO BADLY that he is willing to hurt his constituents over it; then he should provide all the funding for it.34 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Chris D.

How many more need to die? Fix Hickory Creek Road!!Today it was discovered that two teen boys lost their lives when their vehicle drove into the creek. How many more people need to die before action is taken to make Hickory Creek Road safer? Four people have died since 2017* on this stretch of road alone. This road lacks basic safety measures such as guardrails and an inadequate amount of reflective posts. It's a road that winds along a 20-foot drop into a creek with a sharp S turn. It ends at Country Club Rd in a steep, angled hill that has seen more than a dozen incidents in the past 2 years. *Awaiting an official number from City of Denton or the County, currently official statement was "multiple fatalities" before today's incident.3,725 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Jay Rodney Stucki

2019 Chemung County Executive’s personnel and salary requestsSubject: 2019 County Executive’s personnel and salary requests The undersigned Chemung County residents urge the Chemung County Legislature to table the personnel appointments and salary requests submitted by County Executive Chris Moss until the general legislative meeting on February 12, 2019. This delay will allow the legislature the appropriate time to review the appointments and salaries requested by the Chemung County Executive. We believe that tabling the decision on appointees would be a prudent decision that would allow each member of the legislature to make an informed decision on each of the appointees and assist in making the Chemung County Legislature a more open and transparent body. Background: On December 31, 2018, Bill McCarthy (D, District 12) was removed from a personnel committee assignment and replaced with Tom Sweet (R, District 3) with no explanation. The decision to remove Mr. McCarthy from the committee facilitates the ability of the county executive to have appointees approved strictly on a party-line vote and without the opportunity for seconding any objection to an appointee. On January 7, 2019 t the personnel committee met for the first time. Prior to the meeting, none of the members of the legislature were provided any information on the proposed appointees such as a resume, vitae or summary of education and experience. Due to understandable concern about the lack of information on proposed appointees, Minority Leader Christina Sonsire ( D, District 7) asked that the appointments be tabled until February to allow the legislature adequate time to review these appointees. Minority Leader Sonsire could not get a second to her motion from any of the other members of the committee. This kind of process is neither open nor transparent, but are two themes Mr. Moss emphasized during his campaign for county executive.13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Peter Keenan

Fort Hood MWR: Keep kids in the gym(s)Parents take great pride in knowing that we are accepted into the gym atmosphere with our littles in tow. It shows that we are supported in the gym and military community. Many families do not have the means to pay for childcare, have childcare readily available to them, or the ability to purchase gym memberships. Having a free gym where all of our health and fitness needs can be met especially during stressful days that are often experienced in the military community due to family separations and frequent moves has created high resilience. Applied Functional Fitness Center has been a go-to source for families to find mental and physical wellbeing, creating great morale amongst one another and a close-knit community for us to rely on in those times of need.440 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Bailey Doñez

Close National Parks During #TrumpShutdownThe Trump Shutdown is causing enormous damage to our national parks and the wildlife that call them home. Visitors to some parks have left piles of trash and waste near roadsides, making the parks unsanitary and putting bears, coyotes, and wolves in future peril. The National Park Service has worked for decades to prevent large predators from becoming accustomed to food from people. Park visitors are jeopardizing all of these efforts by causing animals to become habituated to seeking food near roadsides and other places where visitors gather. When the shutdown ends, these animals will continue to seek food near people, potentially leading to conflicts that could result in the killing of wildlife. The National Park Service estimates that there were more than 300 million visits to parks in 2017. Even a fraction of that traffic can cause potentially catastrophic damage. Joshua Tree National Park recently announced it would close all or a portion of the park following vandalism to its namesake tree and other plants and park lands. Point Reyes National Seashore in California was closed for health reasons after human waste accumulated and Yosemite National Park closed some of its most frequented trails, "due to lack of restrooms and resulting impacts from human waste." Former National Park Service Director Jonathan Jarvis cited the great risk in an Op Ed her recently wrote: "Leaving the parks open without these essential staff is equivalent to leaving the Smithsonian museums open without any staff to protect the priceless artefacts." In previous shutdowns, the parks have been closed to protect these iconic, treasured spaces from damage such as that which we are now seeeing. Former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke decided in one of his final acts as a member of the Trump Administration to leave them open, despite precedent otherwise. Please add your name to tell Acting Secretary of Interior David Bernhardt to immediately close the National Park System to protect wildlife, wild lands, and future visitors. 1. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/jan/08/joshua-tree-park-closed-shutdown-vandalism-latest 2. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/jan/03/national-parks-government-shutdown-trump 3. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/01/01/free-all-national-parks-overrun-garbage-other-bad-behavior/2456757002/73 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mitch Merry, Endangered Species Coalition

NO to #TrumpShutdown! As President Trump continues to hold federal government paychecks hostage over billions of dollars for a wasteful and unnecessary wall, federal workers and contractors from nine departments are out of work, leaving thousands of families to scrape by without a paycheck. There are 800,000 people in the federal workforce impacted by the shutdown, including low-wage workers. And that does not account for the contractors, including janitors, food service workers, and security guards who will not get back pay when the government reopens but still need to find ways to pay for childcare, housing, food, medicine, and support their families. Each day the shutdown continues, there are severe consequences for American families, small businesses and the economy. The economic ripple effects of the government shutdown cannot be underestimated. The 2013 shutdown, which lasted 16 days, cost our economy between 2 to 6 billion dollars in lost output. America’s families cannot afford this shut down and they cannot afford having our tax dollars, that should be used to improve our schools, childcare, and health care, being held hostage for a hateful and wasteful wall by the Trump administration. The wall is not just a hateful symbol of exclusion, it will kill wildlife by interfering with migration patterns and wildlife access to food and water. It will cause dangerous flooding, causing millions of dollars in damages to the environment and local businesses and endangering the lives of border residents. It will stomp on the rights of private landowners resulting in a large government land grab that strips private landowners of their lands. President Trump is manufacturing a crisis just to deliver on a hateful promise to his political base of support. The truth is that there is no security crisis at the border, and unauthorized border crossings are at historic lows, down over 75% since 2000. We need the U.S. Congress to stand strong against President Trump and show their leadership by putting an end to the government shutdown.943 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Gloria, MomsRising

Credit Cards and Banks: Don't Penalize Furloughed Federal Employees! This is one of those rare, clear cut moments in which the leaders of our financial corporations have an opportunity to lead or to fail. Failure to act to help furloughed federal workers is likely to result in profit down the line for these corporations who were so recently beneficiaries of that very government. What these companies will collect in penalties, fines, fees, and high rates of interest is so tiny compared to the magnanimity of the windfall they received as their tax liability was reduced. Helping the furloughed federal workers, or at least not hurting these workers with late fees, penalties, and high rates of interest for prolonged credit card debt, sets a remarkable precedent and is simply the right thing to do.32 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Paola Cabal

Reintroduce and Pass the Do No Harm ActAs someone who is LGBT (bisexual) this cause is close to me because all to often, LGBT people are the target of covert discrimination attempts through the usage of "religious freedom" legal exemptions, which are explicitly designed to allow for bigots who use their religion to justify to hatred to discriminate against people. It's time to put an end to these licenses to discriminate.453 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Ryan Scates

Create Pedestrian Plaza on Roosevelt Between Main & Union in Flushing, NYI was a witness to the immediate aftermath of a horrible car accident on Roosevelt Avenue on Jan 2, 2019. A black Lincoln was on top of a woman. Traffic fatalities/injuries are too high, our carbon footprint is through the roof, and pedestrian rights are being trampled by ever increasing car traffic levels. It's time we take back the streets for public enjoyment by the many and to encourage more people to walk/bike/take public transit.77 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Robert Reynolds
