• Tell CA lawmakers: End "shoot first" policing
It's the same story all around the country. Police officers shoot first and ask questions later. Then, when the public demands accountability for their recklessness, they get off scot-free. A new California bill aims to change the status quo by allowing police officers to use deadly force only as a last resort. If it passes, it could transform policing in California and set an example for the rest of the country. But California police unions are doing everything in their power to preserve the status quo and stop the bill, AB 392 by Assemblymember Shirley Weber. They've even recruited a member of California's Senate, Senator Ana Caballero, to sponsor a competing bill, SB 290. The police unions say that SB 290 is a compromise bill. The reality is that it would not force police departments to change their use of force policies at all. Police officers would still be allowed to get away with murder. Just in the past several weeks, we've seen trigger-happy police officers get away with murder over and over again. The Pittsburgh officer who shot an unarmed teenager named Antwon Rose in the back was recently acquitted. And Sacramento prosecutors announced that they will not even bring charges against the officer who shot an unarmed black man, Stephon Clark, in the back as he was fleeing. If the law allows California police officers to get away with shooting unarmed people in the back, that law is immoral and must be changed. Police unions opposing reform are a powerful lobby in California politics. But lawmakers are ultimately accountable to the people they represent. If California voters and supporters from around the country demand change, we can deal the police unions a major defeat and get the accountable policing our communities deserve.

  • Reduce excessive prison sentence 80 years to 15
I am petitioning for the re-evaluation and reduction of a prison sentence for John Thomas Abney (Texas). Mr. Abney was sentenced to 80 years TDCJ for "actual delivery" of controlled substance. He was a backseat passenger in a vehicle at the time a front seat passenger handed 1/4 oz bag of meth to another person. For reference that is roughly a $20 street value. He has no prior violent history. No threats or weapons were involved. No trafficking. 80 YEARS- murderers and violent criminals in the local area are consistently getting under 40, frequently under 20, for much worse. This is not equal justice and the sentence is excessive for the crime. I am requesting consideration of a sentence reduction to 15 years TDCJ, for his proximity and actions in the event.

  • SAVE Maine Youth Tackle Football
We would like to defeat bill LD-711 recently introduced to the Maine State Legislature. Here is the link to LD-711: http://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/bills/bills_129th/billtexts/HP051601.asp We would additionally like to inform the state legislature about the advancements youth football makes each year in the area's of safety, coaches training, new equipment, styles of play, and rule changes. These advancements are largely overlooked by the recent crusade against the sport of football. We acknowledge the risks, but want the choice to play or not to play left up to individual families while considering the safety advances of their local and regional organizations.

  • Betsy DeVos Should Personally Fund the Special Olympics
I am personally disgusted by the contrast between Ms. DeVos’s personal wealth, which is growing under the current administration’s tax cuts for the wealthy, and her clear intent to undermine the needs of public education, especially those with special needs.

District attorneys have vast power in criminal justice proceedings. DA Zappala has shown time and again that his interest in securing reelection far outweighs any commitment he has to justice and equity.

  • Help Fight NYS Jones Beach Parking fees for Charity Walk
The annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk for Suicide Prevention at Jones Beach State Park is held every October and NYS charges thousands of dollars ($13,000+ in 2018) for parking fees to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. We need them to waive the costs or give a huge discount for this charitable event that helps save lives.

  • Remove statues that depict Black American slavery from public spaces
Statues which publicly display bias of Black American slavery needs to be removed from our public squares, courtyards etc. These depictions continue to be the leading cause of prejudice, civil unrest, injustices, hate, violence, discrimination, bigotry, malice, anger and a sense of entitlement over others. Example the statue of an African / Negro woman and the European / Caucasian who was a "know adulterer" and who many believe raped, engaged in sexual intercourse and impregnated many female slaves whom he declared he freed. This individual would be Henry Ward Beecher of course.
