I’ve started this petition because our national priorities as dictated by the White House don’t make any sense to me. Let us redirect the large movement of armed forces to instead help our California citizens in their hour of need. Let’s allow those who need economic and political asylum to apply for it legally.

We have seen the devastation caused by fires, floods, droughts, and all manner of catastrophic weather already and we know there are many more on the way. Prisoners in state custody deserve our protection and California will be on the front lines of climate change in the US so it is our duty to protect those who can’t protect themselves.

This petition is to seek relief for the ancient and historic city of Harar, located in Eastern Ethiopia, and its residents who are under unprecedented siege. The citizens are being systematically persecuted, as they are forcefully removed from their homes and businesses; beaten, and even killed by some elements of the majority Oromo fringe group known as (Queerro), whose mob style intimidation won’t be stopped by the weak regional government and alas ignored by the Federal government. The Federal government is not upholding its solemn duty of protecting minorities and the desperate cries of the Harari people for help have fallen on deaf ears. The population of Harar is denied access to clean water and garbage disposal. Furthermore, the lawless mob is Hararis are beaten by thugs in clear daylight, while the hapless local police or Federal forces stand by and refuse to intercede and protect human rights and property rights of Harari citizens. The region is mired in a lawless atmosphere whereby some Oromo squatters lay claim to land and property belonging to Hararis, by forcefully occupying residential properties, schools, businesses, roads and public parks. This must not stand!! We, Hararis residing in California hereby appeal to our senators, asking them to intercede and issue a stern warning and convey our concerns to US Department of State, the Federal Government of Ethiopia, and the US Embassy in Ethiopia.

Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, well known for her support of legislation that benefits her Corporate donors, and her opposition to legislation that would benefit the working class, such as Medicare for All, has made it clear that if elected Speaker of the House, she will support her "Pay Go" legislation, by which the only Congressional laws that will pass and become Appropriation Bills for the Public Purpose are those that have already been budgeted for. This would cripple most of the progressive agenda as it was just proposed by Senator Bernie Sanders. It also reveals an appalling lack of knowledge about how our Fiscal Government, possesor of a Sovereign, Fiat currency, can and does issue through the Fed, "de novo", the money appropriated by Congress. Therefore her whole argument for Pay Go as a way to avoid larger deficits is totally baseless. The truth is, whenever trillions of dollars are needed to fund the Pentagon's requests for ever more expensive weapons, or to subsidize the 0.1% richest americans thru massive tax breaks, no one in Congress ever objects. But if the money is needed to fund Medicare For All, stronger social safety net, free public college education, a needed transition to clean energy or infrastructure repairs, a chorus of voices claims there is no money for that. This is why we strongly oppose Rep. Pelosi and support instead Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a consistent and clear voice in support of progressive causes for the benefit of all Americans, the Working Class and our Environment, to be the next Speaker of the House of Representatives,

Indiana is currently one of only five states in the United States that do not protect its residents against hate crimes. A hate crime is a prejudice-motivated crime committed by a perpetrator against a person or persons based on race, religious affiliation, gender preference or gender identity. In addition to psychological distress and/or physical injury or material damages sustained by the victim, a hate crime conveys a message of intimidation, hatred, and terror to the entire group. As a result, members frequently feel isolated and vulnerable. Hate crimes can also lead to factionalism or divisions within communities. It’s no secret that in recent years, extremists have been emboldened, and Abigail Hauslohner of the Washington Post states, “Hate crimes in the nation’s 10 largest cities increased by 12 percent last year, reaching the highest level in more than a decade, according to a report released [in May] by the Center for the Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University at San Bernardino.” For this reason, it is urgent that a hate crime (or bias-crimes) bill with aggravated penalties be introduced and voted into law in Indiana. Indiana legislators need to know now that you want groups targeted for hate crimes to be protected from violence by law! Please sign the petition to urge that state representatives act immediately to introduce hate crime legislation that includes aggravated penalties to Congress and work to their utmost ability to get said bill passed into law.
