  • "Stay OUT of MY Panties."
Women should have the right to abortion. There should be funding giving back to planned parenthood because they offer many services other than just abortion such as breast screenings, std testing, support groups, etc. Men should not have the right to say what happens with women's bodies because women are not property. Women should have the access, funding, and the choice to abortion. Women should have healthcare and reproductive rights.

  • President Armstrong: Shut Down the Cal Poly Slaughterhouse
The Cal Poly slaughterhouse kills cows, pigs, and chickens as a display for students to observe, desensitizing university students to the cruelty of animal slaughter. The public has voiced its concern repeatedly and wants to see the university shut down the slaughterhouse. Add your voice by signing the petition to Cal Poly President Armstrong today, asking him to remove the violent facility from the campus and spare thousands of animals from brutal deaths.

  • Cornell just invited a hate group leader to speak
This Friday, my alma mater Cornell Law School is hosting a conference for Dreamers — immigrant youth who came to this country as children — called “Dreamers and Beyond: Our Broken Immigration System.” The problem? Cornell has invited Mark Krikorian, executive director of the anti-immigrant hate group Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) to speak. CIS is recognized as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for many reasons, including the more than 2,000 times CIS has distributed white nationalist and Holocaust-denying content. CIS is also part of a shadowy anti-immigrant network of groups linked to white supremacist and pro-eugenicist beliefs. If you’ve seen what the Trump Administration is doing on immigration — deporting moms and dads while separating children from their families — these ideas come from CIS. Krikorian himself refers to immigrants as “illegal aliens” and once tried to school Sonia Sotomayor on how to say her own name. He’s said that “Haiti’s so screwed up because it wasn’t colonized long enough” and referred to Univision anchor Jorge Ramos as a “white-Hispanic ethnic hustler”. That Cornell would ask Krikorian to speak at a conference about the future of Dreamers is bizarre. That they extended a campus invitation to a known hate group leader is unacceptable. We don’t have much time before this conference. Please sign our petition and share with as many people as you can. Kica Matos Cornell Law School Class of ‘99

  • "Just Say No!" to diverting cannabis tax revenue to law enforcement
Representative Mary Dye, You stated in a KONA radio interview recently that you would divert tax revenue from the sale of legal cannabis to increase law enforcement budgets because you believe there is an increase in crime since that necessitates it. However, since cannabis has become legal in the State of Washington, there is no evidence to support the claim that the industry has contributed to an increase in crime. In fact, many cities, such as the city of Kennewick, report crime is down, and Benton County (where Kennewick is located) cannot point to any extra enforcement actions as a result of legalization. The will of the voters when i502 passed was clear. The revenue from cannabis taxes was intended to be used on education, healthcare, research, and substance abuse prevention, not law enforcement. Even if increased crime as a result of legalization was an issue of concern, the War on Drugs is a waste of taxpayer resources and has wreaked havoc in our communities worse than the drugs themselves. Therefore, we petition you to not divert any cannabis tax revenue to law enforcement and request that you consider earmarking the revenue for its original purpose rather than lump it into the general fund as the Legislature has done.

  • PROTECT ALL RETIRED SENIOR CITIZENS!
I worked 40 years gainfully (32.5 in the public sector in NJ). I was promised for decades that all of the benefits I had at retirement will ALWAYS BE THERE FOR ME. However, AFTER being retired SIX YEARS, Gov. Christie refused to grandfather in the retirees! In addition, he TOOK BACK the last year of increase by the former Democratic Gov. Corzine! So, not only did my income not increase, my income was decreased - me & ALL NJ PUBLIC WORKERS! THE RUG HAS BEEN PULLED FROM UNDER MY FEET! I AM ELDERLY, DISABLED AND IN FEAR OF BECOMING HOMELESS AS TAXES, COST OF LIVING KEEPS RISING. I NEED A RETROACTIVE PENSION INCREASE, EFFECTIVE 1/1/2011. FYI: NJ GAVE A RETROACTIVE PAY INCREASE TO ALL CURRENT NJ WORKERS, PEOPLE WHOM ARE ABLE TO WORK. I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO WORK. IT IS DOWNRIGHT EVIL TO BE MEAN TO OLD PEOPLE, WHOM CAN NOT DEFEND THEMSELVES!

  • Change EO Smith High School's Start Time
Nearly two decades of scientific research has shown that adolescent sleep patterns vary greatly from those of both adults and younger children. Yet in an effort to save money school districts all over the country have start times that are hazardous for adolescents' health. Evidence has shown that a lack of adequate sleep can put adolescents at risk for a host of physical and mental health issues. Organizations such as Start School Later have been advocating for later high school and middle school start times. As the parent of a high school student and a professor in a School of Education, I believe it is time for Region 19 to heed the evidence and start school later for the health and well-being of all teenagers.

  • Merrick Garland for Supreme Court!
The Supreme Court is taking a dangerous swing to the hard right politically. We have seen Citizen's United passed, the weakening of labor protections, and women's rights are in extreme danger. It is time to send a message to Congress and the President that the American people want a different direction.
