  • Tax the Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Fulton County residential homeowners are facing skyrocketing property tax bills. That's why 2018 tax assessments resulted in 37,000 residential tax appeals. The Atlanta Falcons pay NO TAXES on their long term lease of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium thereby skirting $26 million per year in taxes at the expense of residential homeowners - short changing the public school system by 50% of that amount, $13 million per year. Call or send Fulton County Commission Chairman, Rob Pitts, an email. Call him at 404-612-8200 or email him at [email protected].

  • Congress: Protect the Iran deal
After irrationally pulling out of the hard-fought Iran deal, Donald Trump reimposed sanctions on Iran on Monday, August 6—essentially paving the path to war. [1] Trump has also threatened to punish businesses in Europe by imposing high tariffs on those who continue to work with Iran and uphold the Iran deal. Not only will tariffs on European companies ensure the Iran deal comes to a complete halt, it will alienate our closest allies and punish everyday Iranians by crippling their economy again. In May, Donald Trump pulled the U.S. out of the hard-fought Iran deal—shutting the doorway to diplomacy. Despite such a rash and dangerous action, the Iran deal is still working. [2] Our allies in Europe, who were original signers of the deal, have kept their commitments, and European countries continue to do business with Iran, while independent inspectors frequently confirm Iran is in compliance with the deal. [3] As Trump chooses August 6 to once again derail the Iran deal, he also attacks the memory of the more than 140,000 lives lost due to the U.S. nuclear attack against Hiroshima and undermines the decades-long battle by survivors of the attack to organize for a world without nuclear weapons. MoveOn members worked their hearts out to help secure this breakthrough for global peace and diplomacy. [4] We can't stand by as Donald Trump barrels toward another catastrophic war. Congress must step up to protect diplomacy and pass legislation to prevent sanctions on our allies that would hurt the Iran deal. Sources: 1. "The US has reimposed sanctions on Iran. • Tell ICE to Keep Salma Home!
Salma arrived in the US from Bangladesh in 1999 and has not left since. She’s a crew member at a McDonald’s near her home and has dutifully checked into INS/ICE for many years- always having her work permit approved and getting told she “is not a priority.” This year, ICE told her to buy a one-way plane ticket to Bangladesh and leave the US by August 23rd. Just like so many hardworking immigrants who have followed the rules for 10, 20, and sometimes 30 years, Homeland Security’s arbitrary decision to separate this kind and loving family came as a complete shock. At a routine check-in on muggy day at the end of July, Homeland Security put a large black electronic monitoring device on Salma's ankle and told her to check in two times a week for the next 4 weeks. And then fly to a country she has not seen in 18 years, leaving her loving husband and college son behind. Salma has 2 pending immigration matters, including a court hearing scheduled for July 15, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. There is no compelling reason to break up Salma's family. It's unnecessary. It’s cruel. It’s un-American. Stand with Salma and her family and stop this cruel family separation at the hands of the Department of Homeland Security. Tell ICE- STOP SEPARATING FAMILIES! Enough is enough! • BRING THEIR PARENTS BACK!
For months, the Trump Administration separated immigrant parents and children at the border as part of their “zero tolerance” policy. Today, HUNDREDS of children remain apart from their families, and there have been horrendous reports of what has happened to them in detention, including children who were forced to drink toilet water and children who were sexually abused. Many of these children have parents who have already been deported. Many of these parents were lied to by border agents, and potentially coerced into signing deportation documents that they didn’t understand. The best way to make sure these reunifications happen is to bring these parents back to the U.S. They should be reunited with their children and allowed to pursue the asylum cases they came to the U.S. to seek. The Department of Homeland Security has separated these families. They need to make this right. Tell DHS chief Kirstjen Nielsen that we need to reunite immigrant families by bringing deported parents back!
