• Charge US President Donald Trump with Crimes Against Humanity
I'm starting this petition because I can't sit by and do nothing while our sitting President commits crimes. It goes against everything the US has always stood for in the world. The letters from the mothers who had their children taken are just heartbreaking and the thought that one of the most powerful leaders of the free world is responsible is reprehensible to me. Someone has to stop him.

  • Stop the Racial Disparities in Connecticut's Prisons
Racial disparities continues to be huge issue in our criminal justice system, including in the state of Connecticut. Despite the effort of policy changes such as, the racial impact statements, Connecticut has only managed to reduce incarceration but not the disproportionate incarceration rate between African-Americans and whites. As of 2014, 1392 out of 100,000 per capita incarcerated were African-Americans while only 193 out of 100,000 per capita were whites. These statistics are unacceptable. Over the past few years, the state of Connecticut has suffered from the major budget cuts that negatively impacted the funding of many social services programs. The lack of funding resulted in many programs providing limited to no services for the vulnerable population, particularly the African-American communities. Many of these social services provide treatments, such substance abuse programs, mental illness programs, and even regular public schools, all which have been proven to be beneficial in preventing incarceration and recidivism. Now that the state has a more expanded budget, I urge you all to sign this petition, as it is to support the state government to increase funding for these social services programs and to focus on the local areas that currently lack access to programs. By adding more social services progress, the state of Connecticut will be helping create a more level “playing field”. Increased funding is necessary to help the vulnerable populations, including the African-Americans. By granting increased funds to social service programs, access will increase to these social services resources and will greatly help reduce the disproportionate rate of incarceration in Connecticut by providing a source of intervention for minorities. It is evident that the state of Connecticut has been committed in reducing racial disparities in its criminal justice system. But, it must take another stride now that it has a budget that can support providing alternatives outlets to its vulnerable population. Social service programs can help prevent the problem of racial disparity by stopping the issue at the very beginning. Connecticut must take action now in order to remain a progressive state. I hope you all take this message for consideration and I thank you all for your time.

  • Mayor Medina: Save Our Heritage Trees
Help us save these precious 70-year-old heritage trees from being cut down because the city has deemed them inconvenient. They are living beings that deserve to be left in place for many to enjoy for years to come.

  • Stop The Publication of 3D Printed Gun Technology
I am a loving aunt to three school-age children who became deeply alarmed about their safety following the shooting in Parkland. As a result of that tragedy, I became a passionate activist for common sense gun regulation. and formed the Musicians Against Gun Violence Super PAC.

  • Chipotle: Stop Hiding Violence Behind "Humane" Marketing
I used to work at Chipotle and I thought I was doing something good for animals. Chipotle brags about using "free-range" animals and treating them with respect, but when I went to a Chipotle-supplying chicken farm, I saw dead and mutilated birds. I couldn't believe this was being called "humane." I used to be one of the people calling this "humane" and being proud of it, but now I know the truth. Chipotle's CEO needs to stop lying to the public and to warn them about the way animals are suffering to produce the products Chipotle sells. Chipotle already posts warning signs when they are serving animal products that don't meet their highest standards, but they should be posting warnings of violence on ALL of their animal products because even on their "humane" farms, Direct Action Everywhere has documented cruel animal abuse and the public deserves to know the truth.

  • Lift travel ban on family based visas for countries impacted by the travel ban
I've waited for 12 years to bring my sister here. Her daughter and son aged out of my petition. They had to go back to the end of the line and start a new petition. They've been waiting for several years and now the travel ban is making it very difficult for them to get approved. It's been 18 years.

  • GET EMMA REPROMOTED!
My friend Emma was recently demoted because she was in a relationship with someone 3 years older than her. This in turn made her break up with her boyfriend who she loved because they were 3 years apart. They also tried to break up me and court and we aren't even staff in the server. Do you know how bullshit that is? Her boyfriend isn't even 18 yet and it also doesn't concern you. Sign this petition if you want things to change, starting with getting Emma her role back.

  • Parents Calling for Public Forums on the PIAA's Proposed Transfer Rule
There is a proposed rule that would suspend high school student-athletes from post-season competition if their parents legally transfer them for reasons that are NOT athletically motivated. This rule targets low-income students and African American student-athletes in particular. It would hold them hostage in certain zip codes and educational environments that their parents do not feel are best for them. There has been very little transparency about this rule. This vote should be stopped and public forums should be held throughout the Commonwealth.

  • Stop the Betsy DeVos Education Agenda
Abdul El-Sayed here: As Detroit’s Health Director, I personally inspected the City’s public schools, run by a state-appointed Emergency Manager and suffering from Betsy DeVos driven funding cuts. I saw children trying to learn in classrooms without good heat in the winter, and schools with dead mice and moldy floors. It’s a far cry from the Michigan public education I received - the Michigan public education every child deserves.

  • Affordable Housing 4 Los Angeles
Twelve of my working, voting, paying taxes and good deed doer friends have had developers knock on their doors saying, "I know you've lived here 12 (20; 5; 8, etc) years but you now have eight months to move unless you have a million dollars. Your apartment is now a condo. Have a nice day." There are high rise buildings all over the city with empty apartments. Enough empty apartments to house the 50,000 evacuees from the Porter Ranch Gas Leak. We have 60,000 homeless and no place for them to go. The Porter Ranch people have all gone home. Who are in those empty high-rises? Wealthy foreign students, transient business people, a few local "wealthies," and corporations who keep apartments. WE NEED AFFORDABLE HOUSING for our own tax paying, voting constituents. The governor, the mayor, and our city council can each afford not to be paid that little extra under the table for three years. They may resume their thievery at the end of the three-year moratorium on building non-affordable housing. When we saw a city councilman dressed in a silk suit to negotiate with developers who wanted to build in Los Angeles, we knew he did not want to appease the 200 people gathered outside to oppose it. He was there to impress the developers and design his own pockets. If California is so wonderful, let's prove it. Let's actually do something for the middle and working class people who live here and who actually pay our leaders' salaries and benefits. (I can't afford to buy you a silk suit and I'm not sure the bulk of your constituents can afford it either.) WHO IS MINDING THE STORE? We've got to ourselves. And don't think your vote doesn't count.....it does.

  • Ban Summer Reading At West Allegheny
Summer is a time for kids to be kids. A time for families to relax and enjoy time with each other, NOT stress over homework. I know the summer reading program has caused nothing but unnecessary stress in my family since it started and I would like my kids to be able to just BE KIDS in the summer.
