  • Protect Community Choice Energy in California!
The California Public Utilities Commission is trying to slow down or stop Community Choice Energy programs across the state. CCE programs enable communities to provide energy for homes and businesses that is cleaner and cheaper than the existing utilities. CCE programs are already operating successfully in ten counties in California. By the end of 2018, eighteen CCEs will be serving customers, and 16 other jurisdictions are in the process of forming programs. Soon Community Choice will provide more than half the electrical load in the state. But now the PUC is rushing to put a two-year freeze on new Community Choice programs with Resolution E-4907. The CPUC knows what it’s doing is wrong. They are trying to sneak through the resolution, without public hearing, at the height of the holiday season, hoping no one is looking — but they’ve been caught by alert Community Choice advocates. Sign our petition to demand that the CPUC scrap this dangerous resolution before midnight on Wednesday, January 10th.

  • Al Franken Should Not Resign from the U.S. Senate on January 2nd.
Senator Franken is our Senator. The people of Minnesota are entitled to have our system of due process and proportionality for unacceptable behavior applied to the people we elect. The fact that Al Franken was elected twice by the people of this State doesn’t absolve him of responsibility for anything he may have done. But certainly we are entitled to a process that objectively looks at the allegations against him and renders a judgment based on the existing norm of proportionality, the same norm that all of us live with every day. Al Franken is our U.S. Senator. He deserves due process and so do the people of Minnesota.

  • FACEBOOK'S ALGORITHMS ARE PROMOTING PERSECUTION AND RIGHTIST EXTREMISM
I heard a story on WNYC that I found greatly disturbing. It seems that fascists, Nazis, white supremacists and the like have learned how to use Facebook greatly to their advantage. Therefore Facebook has unwitting helped the persecution of the Rohingya in Myanmar and facilitated the rise of authoritarian proto-fascist regimes in India, Turkey, Hungary and others. It seems that FB’s algorithm greatly favors the kind of inflammatory comments that get many progressive comments AGAINST them. FB “favors” those posts that draw the most comments – and so I have noticed lately that pro-Trump inanities attacking progressive posts, once they have drawn many responses against them, are seen on the top of the “response feed.” Therefore a fascistic post or even simple (-minded) trolling gets priority – no matter that the comments are 90-95% against it. If FB would change their algorithm to weight the CONTENT of the comments, as opposed to favoring those who get the greatest NUMBER OF REPLIES, LIKES, ETC, that would obviate this problem. What do you think? Isn’t DEMOCRACY at stake?

  • Governor Wolf: Start Using Clean Energy
I have read about the devastating effects of climate change. As such, I will do everything in my power to keep my environment clean and healthy. Sadly, the coal billionaires are bribing our Republican state legislators into destroying our environment. We the people must petition so that you can help shut down coal plants to save our future and our environment.

  • Social Action Linking Together (SALT) 2018 Legislative Priorities
In an effort to protect the dignity of the most vulnerable in Virginia and promote the common good, you are being asked to support the legislative priorities of Social Action Linking Together (SALT). SALT'S goals are to end school lunch shaming of poor children, ensure that correctional facilities that have video visitation services do not abolish or decrease the available in-person visits, limit and end solitary confinement (which is considered to be torture by many religious leaders and healthcare professionals), provide educational opportunities that will help break the cycle of poverty, enable children in needy families to be cared for in their own home or the homes of relatives, end the lifetime ban on Food Stamps (SNAP) and TANF welfare benefits for ex-offenders convicted of felony drug crimes, oppose funding protocols (e.g., Block Grants) that eventually reduce funding for human services and Medicaid, and strengthen kinship guardian care for impoverished children.

  • Don't let ABC give a voice to conspiracy-monger and pedophile apologist Alex Jones
As someone who's familiar with the events at Waco and ithe tragedy's subsequent politicization by the Republican party and the NRA, I'm deeply disturbed to see an accredited news organization citing a conspiracy-monger as an authority. As someone who cares about the rights of children, I'm incensed to see ABC giving a voice to someone who's defended a sexual abuser.

  • Opioid Addiction in Utah | Daggett County
Opioid misuse, addiction, overdose and death have become an epidemic in America. In fact, over the past 15 years, the nation's opioid epidemic has claimed more than 250,000 lives, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In the last year alone, nearly 30,000 Americans died from opioid overdoses. In Utah, state data from 2015 found that 24 Utahns per month — or nearly one person every day — died from an overdose. Between 2011 - 2016, Salt Lake County saw the greatest total number of overdose deaths, with 638. Utah County was second with 259, followed by 184 in Weber County, 133 in Davis County, 37 in Cache and 14 in Washington County. We are hoping you would join your neighboring counties with a resolution to take legal action against Big Pharma.

  • Bring back NY State NYSERDA Solar Thermal Rebates
It is not possible to meet the NY 2030 Renewable Energy Goals unless all technologies are supported, including Solar Thermal. However, NY is leaning now towards supporting primarily just Heat Pump technology to meet the renewable thermal targets of the current program. NY must not incentivize just one of many green technologies in the attempt to meet the 2030 goals.

  • Safety for all on the Cross Florida Greenway
The State of Florida has recently completed paving of almost all of the Marjorie Harris Cross Florida Greenway, opening this green space to road cyclists and racers. For decades, the Greenway has been a natural green space shared by mountain bikes, hikers and equestrians, with little effect on the environment. Now there will be a huge influx of cyclists, including large groups, racers, and some family riders. However, the safety of the hikers and equestrians is at risk. Let's raise our voices and request signage to be put on the paved trails, requesting the cyclist use slow speed at all natural trail crossings and bridges and tunnels. IE: Slow: Pedestrian and Horse Crossing.
