Trump's budget has a proposal to cut Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP (aka food stamps) by $191 billion over 10 years. It is import to know who this impacts: Over 85 percent of all SNAP benefits go to households that include children, seniors, or those with disabilities, while 15 percent of all SNAP households are elderly individuals who live alone. If that wasn't bad enough, the budget also works to dis-incentivize stores from even *accepting* SNAP, by proposing new fees that would charge retailers a fee for participating in SNAP. This is a dangerous idea which will lead to fewer stores accepting SNAP, making it even harder for Americans who've fallen on tough times to get food. We, the undersigned residents of the Islip Township, appeal to the Islip Town Board to fulfill its commitment to the local community in protecting our economic and environmental viability by not only complying with Governor Cuomo’s Clean Energy Standard, but exceeding its expectations. We call upon the Islip Town Board to set an official goal for being powered by 100% renewable electricity by the year 2030. We request this be done in order to reduce energy costs, encourage job growth, preserve local ecosystems, slow the rise of global temperatures that cause climate change and we ask that the Islip Town Board also take into account the environmental impact of all of its decisions in any policy made, and consider the example that they set for both other townships and the upcoming generations.

Children and the elderly make up the majority of food stamp recipients. Cuts in Medicaid could leave many Michiganders facing the prospect of losing their health coverage. Trump's budget plan continues his deceitful attack on the disabled and violates his campaign promises. These cuts should be stopped.

Saudi Arabia has been using US-sold weapons against civilians in its war in Yemen. It has repeatedly bombed schools, hospitals, public markets, and homes during the war. There are now indications that Saudi is using hunger as a weapon of war by starving Yemenis into submission – all with US political and military support. And the Trump administration just approved a HUGE sale of more weapons to Saudi Arabia this weekend – including a massive package of "smart bombs" that have repeatedly been used to target and kill civilians in Yemen. Americans should not be funding and supplying weapons for Saudi Arabia's war on Yemen. Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke has announced he will resign to take a job in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under Donald Trump.[1] Amazingly, DHS has not confirmed that they actually offered Clarke the job he claims. There's still time to stop DHS Secretary John Kelly from appointing Sheriff Clarke to any position. David Clarke has referred to #BlackLivesMatter activists as "black slime" and “sub-human creeps,” [2] and has slandered Muslims. [3] He has pledged to crack down on undocumented immigrants, and wants to turn Milwaukee County Sheriffs deputies into immigration agents through the discriminatory 287g program, used by Joe Arpaio in Arizona to racially profile and terrorize immigrant communities.[4] In a 6-month period in 2016, four deaths occurred at the Milwaukee County Jail under Sheriff Clarke’s charge. One death was Terrill Thomas, who died of dehydration after guards shut off his water for 8 days;[5] Clarke later threatened the medical examiner in an attempt to obstruct the investigation into Thomas' death.[6] Another death was a newborn baby after the mother gave birth while in chains; she was just one of more than 40 pregnant women who have been shackled by Clarke’s jail. Should he join the Dept. of Homeland Security, Clarke would use his new position to continue his racist rhetoric and have a powerful federal platform for advancing policies targeting immigrants, Muslims, and Black people. Florida is surrounded by beaches. Living so close to the ocean is absolutely wonderful, but the grocery bags we use when shopping have caused extreme amounts of danger to the sea life in our oceans. Sea turtles think that the grocery bags floating around in the water are jellyfish and they try to eat it. Sea turtles are unable to digest plastic, thus making them feel full constantly. By feeling full they are unlikely to eat more causing them to starve to death. The sea turtle conservatory claims that over 100 million sea turtles die each year due to plastic in the ocean. By banning the use of plastic bags in Florida, the sea life will thank us.
